Why would you want to know that? Unless you are calculating the total pressure exerted by the sand? But that would be exluding water.

Any good marine tank guide books to recommend.

Drop by watercircle. They have quite a few good books. -
Make sure your overflow is covered properly. Best get a piece of acrylic to place over it.

Lionfish poop alot too. A point to consider.

Notice alot of people having diatom bloom now..even established display tanks in some lfs... Is there some change in tapwater content?
-
I would start with scooter blennies. Once you have success with them then try the mandarin. I gave up on mandarins long ago.

I'm not sure on the difficulty of princess anthias. However, anthias usually take quite some time to get used to your tank before swimming out into the open. You should try feeding newly hatched brine shrimp to initiate a feeding response. Once they start eating you can mix other foods like cyclopeeze in. Seeing their size, it is best you feed them regularly about 4-5 small meals a day. Small anthias lose weight rapidly if not fed adequately.

Feeding does'nt really play an important role. I've kept a bubble for about 1.5 years without really target feeding.

So far no..haven seen the other bugger..hiding somewhere behind..

Suddenly thought of it..I've been using phosphate absorbing stuff that are iron based. Could this have aided diatom bloom after i changed 50% of my water and introduced more silicates? Someone shed some light?
-
Hmm..dunno lah...up to u..hehe..you want can try at 12 noon lor.
-
Not sure what time it open..but I think 2pm should be a rather safe timing. You can get the pistol shrimp if u dun mind it being dull...

"Lack of iron appears to limit the growth of a particular group of phytoplankton known as the diatoms which are large with a shell made of silicate material. So lack of iron limits the total amount of phytoplankton which grow in the oceans and therefore means that less than expected amounts of carbon dioxide are removed from the atmosphere. It also prevents the growth of diatoms, in particular, and therefore reduces biological removal and storage of carbon in the deep ocean." http://www.atmosphere.mpg.de/enid/os.html So...could diatom blooms be caused by excessive iron content in local tapwater?
-
Heard from a guy that diatom bloom might be due to insufficient iron content in the water. However, checked the internet and came up with the information that excess iron content in the water will lead to diatom bloom. http://www.rsnz.govt.nz/education/alpha/al...6/alpha-106.htm Also... 'Researchers have found that how much iron present in diatoms can significantly alter silicon uptake. (Seawater iron concentration varies around the world, and how much iron incorporated by diatoms also varies.) One such study found that when diatoms were grown under iron-deficient conditions, the silicon/carbon ratio increased when compared to noniron-deprived diatoms' From http://www.ne.doe.gov/isotopes/research.asp Anyone like to share his/her understanding on this? I'm kinda brain dead now...

Ok..sold of my black-head jawfish and my yellow watchman. I thought my tank would FINALLY be peaceful..but now my purple firefish is the king. giving my firefish and my old black antenna shrimp goby a chase now and then... Anyway..thought my sri lankan pistol would be lonely..today at PR got 2 more small black antenna shrimp goby. Thank goodness the pistol did'nt eat them. Here is a pic of one of them. Check out the size disparity! Best pic I could take..had to use flash. If not too dark.
-
Hmmm..it's eating well. So far it has not been seen looking for a burrow. It's just laying on the sandbed in the open (till now)..basking under T5s...If I'm not wrong when the lights go off it'll still sleep there. I have alot of hiding places in my tank..it just refuses to hide anymore! Esp after 2 days of hiding.

Last night till now i see still outside near the front of the glass in the middle portion of the tank. Maybe it knows it has the spotlight. Argh..got to rush for presentation now...Rumor..i waiting for your shot of your yashia with the randalli. Must be very colorful combination.
