  1. How do you arrive at the amount after so many years? I don't even want to think about it..it's scary..
  2. The article had someone do an measurement of accumulated nitrates, phosphates, O2 levels and pH of the fluid in the plenum. He stated that nitrates and phosphates would accumulate over time. And O2 and pH levels in the fluid will drop. Hence very dangerous in the long run. I like the idea as you can remove the accumulated substances but somehow his idea of removing water from the plenum daily might affect the anaerobic zone. So in the end imo there might be a anaerobic zone in the sand bed being sandwiched by 2 aerobic zones.
  3. Stray voltage might cause it. Read about fish exhibiting this behavior in RC after being subjected to stray voltage.
  4. If I did'nt understand wrongly is there a piping which links the main tank water into the plenum area and another piping for draining the plenum water? If I'm not wrong you remove the built up nutrients by using a ball valve to link the tank water to that with the plenum, and then open the draining valve? Water below the plenum will get replaced with the tank water above the sand, without much water flow directly through the sand bed. Is this how it works? It certainly seems logical to me, furthermore no harm incoporating it. It can always be used as a backup in case of H2S buildup.
  5. What lighting are you using?
  6. Hmmm..always too late when the good stuff becomes available..
  7. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...25&pagenumber=1 After reading it, it sounds rather promising. Might try this method next time if I were to set up a new tank.
  8. Phosphates much more detrimental than low nitrates. Always get your phosphate levels to 0. Excess phosphate levels will inhibit calcification and also promote the growth of nuisance algae which will smother the coral.
  9. If you find it threatening then try to bait it or something.. I got 3rd suspect..sally lightfoot? But doubt so...The sri lankan scooter bigger than it.. So far the 3 dead victims tend to sleep on the sand..maybe got monster under my sand? The movie 'Tremors'..
  10. So late tonight already..tomorrow think I spend the whole day getting the suspects arrested. The bulls-eye pistol will be banished to my sump.
  11. Quite scary..tank been predator free for so long..did'nt even add any new livestock lately..nor any large pieces of liverock..
  12. Don't look like fireworm. It's head something like that of the alien in the movie Predator. Little legs by the side..not numerous. Rather smooth segmented body..
  13. The acro not with me!! Quick..buyer own up..
  14. Try my best la...it's living in a foundation rock..not really prepared to tear my tank rockwork down just to remove a worm that might not be the real culprit..but so far the greatest suspect..
  15. Update on my neon eviota...at least this guy still around.. so lovely.. The birdnest became its home already..wonder why the 2 acro crabs did'nt snack on it..
  16. !!!!! I spotted the darn worm! Gotta trap it later..with something..and with forceps on standby... Anyway...few pics...caught the acro crab moving around..here it moved onto a birdnest frag..look at the size of his 'gong'
  17. I'm having something eat my fishes..after so many months of no incident..first was the wheeleri goby which went MIA...followed by the flagtail goby..and today..my male sri lankan scooter which had been with me for MONTHS. I doubt it would be my pistol shrimps as I don't think pistols will eat their symbiotic partner gobies. So far only found one body which is my sri lankan scooter..it was like being dragged into a piece of liverock..confirm it is not done by a crab. I'm suspecting a huge polychaete as I have seen it lurking around that rock..but have never tried to get it out. Any other views? It's not the ich that killed the fishes..my MIA gobies were ich free..the male scooter had ich for months..yesterday still feeding greedily on mysis. Got 2 suspects in mind..the big polychaete worm (a thumb's length) in the liverock...or the solitary bulls-eye pistol shrimp (unlikely as the firegoby and purple firegoby are the closest to it..to reach the wheeleri and flagtail it has to go to the other end of the tank)(further more the gobies would be protected by their resident pistols). What you guys think?
  18. Those who pm me asking for frags sorry to say tat the acro had been sold to another reefer today although I confirmed to get it on Sat...
  19. Anything that would eat these snails? 6-line wrasse?
  20. Hmm..bro..you got a quarantine tank for new clams? Think it would best to have one..esp after hearing so many cases of dreaded clam disease. Best to safeguard your precious collection~
  21. Don't think it's a shark..looks more like a shovelnose ray to me..
  22. Wah...17 years for a cat is like...comparable to a human living to around 100-120 years? Quick..share your cat food formula..
