  1. Most people put them away from the tank walls for better circulation. I would try to minimise the area covered by the liverock on the sand as much as possible to prevent stagnant areas from forming in the long run...
  2. AHahha..follow trend. If big tank have to use more electricity. Have to get tunzes..will have to upgrade lighting...So might as well go small.. Power of return pump enough liao..
  3. Ok..will try it...man..abalones are darn frustrating to remove. I wonder how the people collect them in the first place.
  4. Maybe I shall tickle it onto a small piece of rock using a straw..been trying..but it dun wan climb on the rock.
  5. Managed to catch out my abalone last night while it was on a rock. Removed the rock from it while it was roaming around in the pail. And now its stuck at the corner of the pail. How to I remove it without stressing it too much? I need to get it into a plastic bag by this evening..
  6. Wah DeepBlue you going to downsize too? But your tank now so nice......
  7. I live near the coast and everything in my house will eventually rust. Mould will tend to build up in areas of high humidity and poor ventilation. Keep the area well ventilated and no mould will grow.
  8. If I'm not wrong octozin is biodegradable. So once its effectiveness is gone and you introduce new fish, corals or even rocks into your tank without quarantine you have chances of reintroducing ich back into your system. If your fish are healthy they should not contract ich that easily again. Ich is not the problem you should start to fix. It should be the water conditions.
  9. Abalone reserved for blu_surf. Sump reserved for Reefshark.
  10. Also one rock with 5-6 polyps of rhodactis. Attached is the pic of the mushrooms. They are on the left of the pic. Look carefully the tips have a slight purple tinge. Got one tubeworm in a hole in the rock. Whole rock going for $10.

Good for small tanks. - 4ftX1.5ftX1.5ft tank F.O.C with a slightly rusted BLACK metal stand. *arrange own transport...pm me your contact and will update you on when to collect* - 2ftX1.ftX35.5cm(height) sump tank with 3 compartments. Middle compartment is 25cmX1.5ft in area for remote DSB (worked for me as I kept bioload rather low). Sump tank going for only $20. - Marine sources skimmer ($150) *Reserved for Terryz*
  12. 192W is not alot. 8X54W = 422W!! My dad will kill me after he sees the electricity bill.
  13. Marine sources skimmer reserved for Terryz. Sorry ah Eric..Terryz pm me first...but will measure for you if he back out..it's half buried in sand..I can't possibly measure it now anyway. I am downgrading as I have grown wiser. Either sooner or later I have to change my tank to a more secure one. If I stick to 4 ft I will have to upgrade return pump and my lights. Running cost will be higher. So I downgrade and go for 8 tubes of T5s. Wattage wise will be alot cheaper than 8 tubes of 4ft T5s.
  14. Go for T5s. Less heat and more efficient in light output and they do last longer.
  15. Decided to sell the following...but will have to wait till my tank is torn down (somewhere next week to 2 weeks later).. Black cardinalfish (fat and healthy..about 1.5 to 2 cm) - $15 Healthy longspine cardinalfish (max size 2.5 inch) - $10 Adult pair of Jann's pipefish (healthy and feeding on frozen mysis). Been with me since middle of last year. A few fellow reefers who have seen them can attest to their health. They will even eat the largest of P.E mysis. Pair going for $40. Marine sources skimmer (smallest model) bought from octopus bay. Needle wheel impeller can be purchased from the shop. Going for $150. Better than weipro and IMO value for $$. Selling cause I will be doing a new sump with external skimmer. A new one will set you around $250 if I'm not wrong. Pls do not ask for discount... Selling very reasonably already.
  16. I would stick to a dedicated pair in a 2ft and maybe 2 pairs in a 3ft. You might be able to keep more seahorses but I don't believe in crowding them. Do a search in the seahorse forum. Alot of useful links have been posted before..
  17. Heh..so AT...you doubt yours has moulted too?
  18. Update.. Left with these..available for immediate collection. -1 pair of Emerald crabs - $15 each (AVAILABLE...can collect immediately) -Yellow star polyps on branching liverock - $10 *available as original buyer back out* -Fungia - $18 -1 ft long black sea cuke - $5 -3/4 ft long pink and grey sea cuke - $5 - Abalone - $10 (pls let me know night in advance~) - 1 adult pair of periclemes kororensis a.k.a heliofungia shrimp - $12 - Rainfordi goby (Finally feeding on live adult bs after months of grazing) - $8- Red Cocoworm - $10 (Shed its crown but crown is growing back. More so than the other lysmata species. Does'nt perform cleaning functions. Might have some extra liverock for sale after restructure as I will be downgrading my tank to a 2 footer. Will be priced at $6 per kg. Pm me your contacts and I'll sms you if I have extra rocks available. Mostly small to medium size rocks. No huge pieces (none above 1.5 kg by rough estimate) Will be letting go my 4ftX1.5ftX1.5ft tank F.O.C with a slightly rusted metal stand. Will have a 2ftX1.ftX35.5cm(height) sump tank with 3 compartments. Middle compartment is 25cmX1.5ft in area for remote DSB (worked for me as I kept bioload rather low). Sump tank going for only $20.
  19. Thanks Razo..won't aeroplane you..don't worry.
  20. You have any other fish in the tank? If not a predatory fish like a trigger or a snowflake moray would be a solution. If you have fish you could try to trap the crab using bait. Wait till your lights are off and anchor a piece of market prawn into the sand bed near the front of your tank. Observe and get ready to grab the crab with your hands once it starts moving onto the bait.
  21. They should do fine as long as they stick to their own corners. My purple firefish seems determined to claim the whole tank.
  22. Try to avoid DSB in your 2ft cube. Will be an eyesore and will take up vital height required for seahorses. Do a compartment in your sump for DSB if possible (the larger the surface area the better). Current should not be too strong. Your return pump should give ample current. Avoid bright lights. Maybe one or two tubes of T5s should suffice. Seahorses don't really like bright light. Avoid liverocks in your tank if possible. Continued grasping of tails to liverock will lead to abrasion. Go for tall macroalgae or seaweed throughout the tank. Your seahorses will thank you for it. Do let me know if you have trouble finding such seaweed. Will gladly tell you where to find them. Skim in moderation. You need to leave some nutrients for your seaweed to grow. Some peaceful tankmates would be good to prevent nuisance algae blooms and to clean up excess food. Zebra dwarf hermits and emerald crabs can be considered (they are very docile). Companion fish species can be pipefish or other peaceful slow moving fishes like scooter blennies, etc. If you are going to add companion fish do so after your seahorses are in and feeding well. I forsee a great seahorse tank!
