  1. Anyone see ghost pipefish around let me know...Will be trying out this species once I get my other 2 tanks to be copepod farms..
  2. Hehe...urocaridella sp. shrimps...collection starts again.. Managed to get 3 so far.. Notice the copepod swarm on the right side of the glass...will be a feast for my mandarin tomorrow when I transfer him over from the tank on the right..
  3. Looking for 2nd hand 1250 or 1260. Anyone letting go pls pm me.
  4. Not really. I kept seafans in the past they all died. But at least now I can afford to feed them as my tank is meant to be nutrient laden. See how it goes. The easy to care for seafans would be the brown photosynthetic kind. They look very bushy and can be found quite often.
  5. Eh? That's a cauliflower? Does'nt seem like one to me... The first pic you posted looks more like the cauliflower.
  6. Soft corals are not under CITES. But the rocks they grow on are.
  7. I have the urge to go states for some cherry picking and hand carry back.. Maybe can bring some yumas there as trade off?
  8. nicolasloh>> Try eaquarist at siglap drive..I bought my selcon from them when they first brought it in. ]v[edia>> Supposedly the seafan I keeping rated for expert care at www.liveaquaria.com...but I'm experimenting as I can afford to have a nutrient saturated tank now. Main problems for their demise is the lack of adequate feeding, lack of proper water current and being smothered by algae. Currently I know how to tackle these 3 problems. Will see how it goes. Did a little reading up and placed the concave side of the seafan facing the current. Only time will tell if its doing well.
  9. Hmmm...what plans have you up your sleeve now?
  10. Algae? Oh dear... They are plankton feeders in the wild feeding on zooplankton which drift past them. These are shy fishes and should not be housed with fishes much bigger than them or any other boisterous fishes such as tangs. Best housed in species tank whereby you can make sure it is 100% crab free. These will be shy once you get them and unless you are dedicated to pay enough attention to make sure they are getting enough food they will most likely perish. If they are hiding the best food to get them started is live adult brine shrimp. Once they are more settled down they will go after frozen food like mysis and cyclopeeze. Housing them with a compatible pistol shrimp (some are not) will make them more comfortable. Recommended pistol would be alpheus randalli. Then again you don't find these often. Please don't buy them if you are unable to meet such such requirements...such beautiful fish should be given the best care.
  11. Hmmm...I mix coralplankton, bioplankton, marineplankton, golden pearls, cyclopeeze and selcon into a potent mix before I pour in the mixture. I off the circulation to the sump and skimmer for 2-3 hours everyday for the animals to feast.
  12. Hmmm....Try feeding it frequently with phyto and rotifers...invert a bottle over it daily with the food mixture concentrated in the bottle.
  13. There are lots of reasons why fish will refuse to feed...while the type of food offered might be the reason, most of the time the likely cause is stress. Might be due to collection and shipping stress...or acclimatization stress. Remove any forms of stress and they should start feeding soon. Make sure your rockworks make them feel secure, make sure no fishes are bothering them, make sure your water conditions are on target (Angelfishes are very sensitive to high levels of nitrates), don't appear in front of the tank too much as new fishes need peace and quiet to settle down. Dim the lights if neccessary once you introduce new fish. You gotta put yourself in the fish's "shoes" once in awhile. Since your fish are already grazing you should'nt worry too much as angelfishes are grazers in nature. Just continue with your normal feeding routine and they should take to it once they are settled down enough. Feeding any extra foods might only have a negative impact on your water quality. A great component of a staple diet for marine fish would be frozen mysis. Most fish find it hard to resist mysis. Even "herbivorous" tangs take to them..
  14. Hehe..your hood reminds me of what I did when I had planted tanks..I did the same thing..only difference was that the fans were pointing down..
  15. Challenging myself..hehe..flooding my tank with phyto, rotifers, cyclopeeze and selcon everyday.. Things which I could'nt do when I was keeping sps..
  16. If you have been dripping kalkwasser for a long time your tank might be suffering from Mg depletion. Long term use of kalkwasser won't replace Mg levels..You'll have to supplement it separately. Mg is one of the most abundant elements in NSW, best to check it once in awhile although I know many people don't.
  17. I do notice that sps deplete kH faster than Ca levels. A way to counter this problem would be to increase your bubble rate if possible and increase your drip rate. Test your kH after a few days after each adjustment. If it stops dropping then you have hit the correct drip rate and effluent rate. Slowly increase your kH above 8 from there using kH supplements. Another thing you might want to try is to scrape off as much coralline algae as you can. Coralline algae takes up massive amounts of calcium and carbonates from your water besides sps. Checked your Mg levels? Difficulty to raise up kH can be due to low magnesium levels. Aim for a level around 1500ppm.
  18. Meat based foods. They won't take phyto. I've fed them using golden pearls with great success. They even multiplied.
  19. Nah...I've been reefing for years without a chiller. I might need heaters for my tank in future..
  20. Hmmm...fellow reefers give priority to me mah..I will make sure there will be enough stock in future..No need to wait months for them anymore. I'll produce them on a regular basis.. The rarity of pink yumas will be a thing of the past.. We will see more awesome tanks in future filled to the brim with pink yumas.
  21. see how.. I only hunting for pink/red yumas now..waiting for rics too...Once i get them I will hook up my other 2 tanks..
  22. Where is it? The one at mainland there with the concrete rectangular pools? If so I got phobia of the place already....wanted to buy a rock of green yumas but was quoted just above a 2 digit sum...
  23. I will be hunting for more... I'm looking to have around 50.. Then next time when I start sps don't need to feed them at all..
  24. When you first introduce acros into your tank they will shed their mucus coat which is supposed to keep them from drying out when they are packed in the bag (certain portions of the acro will be exposed to air)
