Great information. I agree with the point against mixing of anemones. Even upon arrival at local dealers, anemones should not be mixed temporarily in the same container or the same recirculating system even if they belong to the same species. I will not go into detail the biological consequences of such an act but this is probably one of the important reasons which affect the long-term well-being of the anemone once it reaches the consumer.

Can share your experience with Moorish idol?
FuEl replied to KenYeo's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
One more thing you need moderate-strong water flow. Insufficient flow = a sad moorish idol. Buy moorish idols that are already feeding at the shop. If you don't see it eat don't buy it. Sad to say moorish idols are another group of fish besides cleaner wrasses that should be avoided at all costs for the aquarium hobby. It makes no sense to sacrifice probably a few hundred individuals to obtain a handful of specimens that can adapt. -
Don't underestimate the increase in evaporation if you aerate your sump...especially if your tank volume is small.

Mainly focused on blood shrimp though. Has a few notes on other species as well. Would be good if it can be pinned. Cheers. debeliusrecognition.pdf

So cute..amazingly brave for a wild marsupial. Did'nt even attempt to run from me. I was like only 1 feet away from it. Could'nt resist the temptation so I grabbed it and stuffed it into my backpack. Just joking...I only fed it with a portion of Snickers. Ooops.. The way it looks at you just makes your heart melt..

I'll start..something I chanced upon on my way to school tonight. Was sitting outside my faculty corridor..Heard something drop behind me..Turned around and saw this animal moving slowly down and picking up a fallen fruit. Coppery Brushtail Possum: Trichosurus vulpecula

Girl Friend : More than one @ any given time
FuEl replied to minsmarine's topic in General Reefkeeping_
It's easier to distance yourself from someone when you find out early via dating more women. If you only date 1 and don't know what you're looking for, the results will be worse as either party would have relied on each other too much. At least that's what I think. -

Nothing wrong with that. Only from there you can find out who suits you best. Makes sense does'nt it? You can't compare if you only got 1. -
Heavy gasping is a classic sign of ammonia poisoning, much less of nitrite and nitrate. Your filtration is probably not matured enough to handle the bioload. Shrimps and other invertebrates or even fish caught from the coast are more tolerable of such water conditions compared to full-fledge reef fish. Improve your filtration, if possibly protein skimming, let your tank run longer till ammonia and nitrites are undetectable before attempting to add new fish. Before adding your fish you might want to perform a major water change to reduce nitrate levels (let the salt mix with the water for 24 hrs prior to use and remember to add anti-chlorine). Regardless of tank size or fish size it would be a good measure not to add more than 1 fish per week. Then again it depends on how much strain it puts on your filtration. If you introduce fish (ammonia producers) before the bacterial population adapts to the existing bioload you'll probably experience such problems again. If there are currently other fish in the tank it would be good to make daily water changes to keep ammonia in check till the bacterial population can handle the load. Patience is the key.

Air current did'nt work. Sigh so much for upwelling and overflow..after 2 days from 46 larvae become 4. Culled the remaining survivors. Most still died at the overflow although the overflow was only dripping rate. Happened only during lights out. They might have moved to the surface at night since most zooplankton do that. That's probably where they get stuck with surface tension near the overflow. Will be lowering the overflow to mid water and connecting it to a larger sieve. Hopefully that solves the problem. Won't be mixing new and old batch. Alot of factors like disease and cannibalism to consider. They will eat each other if they can.

Upwelling with overflow was good idea. Enabled me to filter out all leftover Artemia and replace with newly hatched and enriched ones. Maintain better water quality. Bad news is that after the first night of the system survival drop from 26% down to 8%. Most got stuck at the overflow although it was meshed and flowrate was slow. Did'nt see such a problem coming since they looked fine for the 5-6 hrs I observed them in the system. Now got air current blowing at the overflow to stop any remaining larvae from gathering there. Sigh... Oh well..at least now learnt how to counter it..

OooO..then no need carry back already. Here costs slightly over aus $70.. Scribbled angel craze?

Thanks Kelmen for your advise..I have posted in ReefCentral. Maxstar81...it was leaning out of its shell yesterday. Today it was walking around ######. Looks quite strong though..hope it does'nt die..

Yes..thats the one..the one I saw was only 2-3 inches..

Hi guys...recently I've been placed to take care of strawberry land hermit crabs. Supposedly they only need saltwater once a month (according to websites) but I provided them with a shallow pool of seawater at the end of the tub. They have mostly land area with sand. Before I took over, crabs were dying due to failure to moult. After I took over, no matter what I did they still died due to failing to moult properly. I've already dusted calcium powder on their food but it does not seem to help. Today I saw one of the larger hermits walking around without its shell...I know this is not normal behavior. There are plenty of shells in the enclosure so its not an issue with shells. I'm feeding them fresh greens and fruits..they don't like meaty foods but will take boiled egg. Anyone who has kept land hermits before could maybe help me out here? I don't wish to kill anymore..

Encrusting goniopora. Goniopora got different species..

Saw the following fish, Chaetodontoplus dubolayi, in an aquarium in Aussie..never seen such a beautiful angel before in Sg..was it ever brought in?

21 days old..transferred all 46 of them into upwelling carboy. They are able to eat minced squid meat already..
-
-
Hehe...came out with a better larval rearing system..similar to "kreisel" systems.. Water gets pumped into the carboy from below. Overflows back to sump in the black tube. Just left to get the appropriate size mesh for the overflow and prey-collection bag so I can sieve out the live prey and replace with enriched ones.

Yep I agree..used to work there for few months few years back. Cheap rocks.. Lots of tanganyikan species he used to bring in...I remember the ocellatus...one of my favourite tanganyikan species. They just look so cute living in the shells with their big eyes. Anywaym think your tank could use some orange from Neolamprologus leleupi.. The C.foai are cool species..think I saw it featured in TFH once..not sure which issue...might dig it up for you when I'm back end of the year. Ancelot..how you find Tropheus in general? I find them to be a rather aggressive genus...certainly one of the more aggressive genus within Tanganyikan cichlids.. And I find juveniles extremely prone to dropsy..

Definitely water parameters. If your tank is a nano tank like you mentioned regular water changes should keep your Ca, Mg, kH levels in order and you should get coralline algae soon. Light is secondary..don't worry too much about it. I've experienced coralline growing under room light. Then again stronger lights will hasten the process..
