Saw one 1-2cm size sunburst anthias at PR yesterday. Only 1 pc (in the 2 ft tank on the floor).

You mean the yellow colored fish? Think saw 2 when I was down there yesterday.

Quite easy to wean onto frozen mysis. Grows up to be a giant, I think easily 1 ft.

If your dottyback looked any more yellow it could be mistaken for a new species... Banana dottyback.

Does'nt need to be attached to rock to survive. To frag it just cut/break it and place it on or next to the target rock. In time it will just grow onto it.

LoL just thought I should just add on to this old thread. I had a large female in one of my tanks. I got a small male placed in a tupperware in the same tank for 3-4 days. Each time I let him out he would get wacked by the female. So I removed the female into another tank, and let the male out into the tank to let it get accustomed to the surroundings. About 5 days later, I just net the female and placed it into the same tank as the male. The smaller male immediately went into submissive behavior by rubbing against the female's belly and swimming slowly up and down. Been leaving them for an hour already, so far everything seems to be going well.

Don't get too worried as diatoms are not really harmful to fish. They might get harmful to corals if they can grow enough to actually prevent the coral from expanding normally. If it's only a light growth it might actually be good as it will support a healthy copepod population. If you really can't stand the look of diatoms, top off your water with distilled/deionised/reverse osmosis water. One of the major fuels needed for diatom growth is silicates, which is apparently present in water taken straight from the tap. Eliminate silicate introduction and your diatoms should die off. As why your snails die before a week is up, I presume it's due to the lack of acclimatization to salinity. It's one of the major contributing factors to premature snail death.

Proper introduction of livestock is a must for nano tanks. Make sure the livestock don't outgrow their tanks, which is really common during the Luohan saga. Stick to small species and introduce slowly and you should be fine. If you are introducing coral, make sure it is not attached to large pieces of liverock which can easily contribute to an ammonia spike. Frags of soft corals and hard corals work better in this sense. Don't overstock either as the parameters in nano tanks fluctuates greatly. As for the skimming, I believe you can get away with your weekly water change as long as you don't overfeed and overstock.

Never underestimate the intelligence of geckos. Now I kind of worry I put my peppermint shrimp back into the tank, maybe I should isolate it in a betta box for safe measures. I have heard of snakes using their tails as bait to entice prey to come to them. Who knows..maybe geckos learnt to do the same?
