Usually harmless. Acropora prefer to grow over coralline. If you snip away the coralline and hair algae grows there then it's worse for the SPS.
-
If shrimps take that amount of time to die, low salinity is the culprit 80% of the time. Do not trust the cheap normal refractometers 100%, most people overlook this.

My Tank parameters - some questions and advice needed
FuEl replied to justrc's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
Salinity if it's too low just observe your coralline, if no coralline growth or coralline starts dying means your salinity is not high enough. SG of 1.023 is about 20% lower in salinity compared to full strength seawater. For SPS I prefer a specific gravity of 1.026 to 1.028 (measured using an accurate digital refractometer or at the very least a calibrated manual refractometer). -
You can pair 2 females, one will become alpha very fast.

Keep them at low temperature they will live longer and they do not have to be fed as much as they do not burn up their energy too fast. A good temperature would be 23-25 degrees celcius for tropical species.

Skimmer does not help with detritus. Detritus build up is due to poor water circulation and lack of mechanical removal like filter socks or filter wool.

Here is picture of the last 2pcs. Very yellow heads. Japanese toadstools are harvested from the wild, polyps will slowly become greener in captivity under more blue or actinic lighting. Price is $200 and above, with larger pieces costing more. Seems expensive but price has dropped, I used to get them for $500 from Hongkong for 2.5inch specimen. -

A link for those interested in the uber rare true Japanese deepwater toadstool. Value is always high for them, as they are extremely slow growers compared to other leather corals. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1921505&page=3 -

OMG! Look at these hybrids and rare fishes!
FuEl replied to Digiman's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Unfortunate indeed, people always want rare deepwater fish but always comment the price is high. Who is willing to risk their lives to collect these fishes for the hobby? If they are captured using deepwater traps or devices it's possible for these fishes to be cheaper, but when people are risking their lives daily to collect these fish? Imagine how many unreported deaths occur in Indonesia alone. -
