  1. Hmmm... you may just have landed yourself a pink birdsnest!
  2. Brown birdsnest tend to develop a lavendar-purplish hue under intense blue lighting.
  3. Adding more LR would only enhance your biological filteration. It'll take your DSB at least a year to fully mature. You may want to consider adding another 10-20kg of LR. What fish do you plan on keeping?
  4. Nice pics Bum... got a full tank shot?
  5. Nice... looks like a DSB and quality LR. Fiji LR? Care to share a pic of your sump?
  6. Is that a skimmer? Sure looks like one... a gigantic one Hey AT, is that what your new skimmer will look like? I could picture you climbing a ladder to reach the collection "cup". Sorry but on cylcop-ez, I think it's great... importantly, most fish love it! Even the hard to feed ones.
  7. When your panther grouper gets a little larger, it may have the other fish for a meal. Groupers (even small ones) are known to eat fish half its size... whole. Garlic soaked food works wonders. Besides dealing with ich, it seems to enhance the appetite of fish as well.
  8. It's a 10g (38L)... 20"L x 10.5"W x 12"H... a nano for sure!
  9. Very nice! Are you planning on hooking up your SCWD?
  10. Sweet setup Dersuz! Curious, what wood did you use for the base/frame to support the weight of your tank (plus water)?
  11. Very nice dude! Now you got me all thinking... What are the dimensions? 4'x4'x2'?
  12. It's the "new" one. I still have the 10g but have transferred some of the sps and clams over.
  13. No, I don't use RO/DI water. I use "specially filtered" tap water. Hmmm... perhaps that's the secret! Thanks for the complement Dispar.
  14. Thanks everyone! 30g is just about small enough where it may be more cost effective and not too much of a hassle to dose and not use a Ca reactor. Here's how I maintain the water parameters... in addition to 10-20% water changes 2x/month with Tropic Marine salt, I dose trace elements, iodin/iodide and aminos daily. I maintain Ca between 420-450ppm and dKH at 9-11. I dose Calcium and Strontium daily. In addition, I add Reef Advantage Calcium to top-up water 2x/wk and Reef Builder 4-5x/wk. My sump has a fuge compartment with thriving macroalgae and a healthy pod and mysis population. Fuge is set on a reverse photoperiod . My latest addition was an AquaC Urchin in-sump skimmer... sps are loving it! The hang-on equivalent would be the AquaC Remora. And I use Rowaphos and Seachem SeaGel as well.
  15. T5s 3" from the surface and 12" or less from most of the sps. Max flow rate is 4300 L/hr or 1130gph. That's a turnover rate of almost 38x.
  16. Thanks Fluberrina. I'm using a Teco TW4 (1/3hp I think). 30g tank is 24"x18"x18". 12g sump is 20"x14"x11". Chiller switches on 3 times a day on average for about an hour plus each time. I maintain the temp between 26-28C.
  17. Thanks Morgan! You've got lots of space... why not setup a small tank? Actually, one of the keys is to either lower your lights or place the corals within 12" from the surface or setup a shallow tank... need not necessarily be very small, just shallow.
  18. Small acropora colony I got from PR almost a month ago, developing a nice purplish-pink colour with light pastel yellow centre/body
  19. close-up of some frags that are retaining their colour and starting to encrust
  20. Thanks for the kind words DeepBlue. Here's a close-up of 2 frags I took a few weeks ago... they have since grown and encrusted about 1/4".
