  1. weisoon, that's the first I've heard of such an occurance. Personally, I've never seen it happen to any of my acros with acro crabs in them. The acro crabs perform a useful function by consuming/removing detritus and food particles trapped in between the branches. Detritus and food particles that remain trapped in between branches or crevices of sps may cause some tissue recession over time. Hence, good circulation and turbulent flow is important as well.
  2. If it's not hairy, it's probably an acro crab. If so, you can leave it there. It'll keep it's home clean.
  3. DB, nice setup. Really looking forward to see your new reef tank. Looks like this one's in your living room.
  4. KF, nice workmanship! Do you have a pic of the hood on the tank?
  5. This is a first I've heard of sps-eating snails. Are you sure they weren't just cleaning-up an already damaged part of the sps? Was it only this one colony or were others affected as well?
  6. DB, welcome to the wonderful, colourful and cooler world of T5s! 8 tubes would be best for a 2ft wide tank, especially if you're intending to keep sps again. Dan
  7. Items 2 and 3 reserved. Thanks.
  8. Special offer... take any 2 for $70.... take all 3 for $90!
  9. The one on the right is still available at $25.
  10. Item 2 (the one on the left) reserved.
  11. Item 2 (white new growth w/ yellow at the very tip)
  12. Trying to clear space again... The following 3 colonies are for sale at $40 each. Pics were taken this evening. Pls PM me if interested. Item 1 (purple tip)
  13. 1. 2" w/ two main branches $25 2. 3" w/ several branches $35 Pls PM me if interested.
  14. Best to go down and check it out... Not as large as previous shipments but the overall quality, color and sizes are good. Mostly small and medium sized specimens.
  15. Fuel, it's only your spotted mandarin that's taking to frozen foods, right? Further, it's in a controlled environment. In tanks with other fish, the timid mandarin wouldn't stand a chance competing with other fish for frozen foods such as mysis. I am sure it's not your intention to mislead reefers (esp newbies) into thinking that it's possible to keep a mandarin alive/healthy in captivity with manual feeding by sharing the preliminary results of your 'experiment'. Hence, as Damien shared earlier and as a general guide, Mandarinfish/Dragonets should only be introduced into a well-seasoned aquarium that is at least 6 mths old with plenty of microorganisms and other animals (e.g copepods) found in live rock and live sand. There should be at least 20-30kg of cured quality LR. Only 1 mandarin should be kept per tank. However, 50-60kg of quality LR may be able to sustain 2 mandarins.
  16. Mr & Mrs DB, congrats and best wishes to both of you, and soon to be three of you!
  17. That's his old 500g featured in RC TOTM. He has since upgraded to the 850g.
  18. That's Steve Weast's tank. It's awesome... a truly dream tank! It's 6ft wide, 7.5ft deep (front to back) and 2.5ft tall. The aquascaping is very well done too, very natural. Great find and thanks for sharing Marineman. I stumbled upon it about a week ago, one of my favourite as well.
  19. Chefri, I don't think you'll get any support from reefers here at SRC (or anywhere in the world for that matter) for your proposed actions. Even the corals that are shipped here with CITIES permits, increasingly we're seeing more aquacultured ones.
  20. Are you using the MD55 as your return pump? Your sump may be a little too small to handle the large volume of water passing thru - that's causing all the bubbles. Try using an MD40 or Eheim 1262. The micro bubbles should lessen.
