  1. No I'm English, but been living in Bangkok for 5 years. SRC is my local english language forum!
  2. Cool, I'm using single ended bulbs. The tank is looking good, but been hard to get any corals to stock the tank. The police at JJ market are cracking down and no coral being sold right now. Probably something to do with this: http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/31...f-smuggler.html My girlfriend has taken my camera, pictures soon I promise!
  3. Thanks for all the comments about the scaping, I'm glad everyone likes it. Just got internet back, and the tank has been cycling for four weeks now. Starting to get a healthy amount of Copepods, so expect to see some updates soon. With the 2x400W MH I probably should go for SPS, but I have to travel so much for my work, I'm worried about the maintenance required (trusting the maid when i'm away.) I think I can make an amazing softie, LPS & clam display, and not regret going SPS. Hmmm Still thinking.... Regarding the MH, currently there is no filter between the bulbs and the water, should I put UV filters? Are the bulbs in danger if they get splashed? Will the UV burn the LPS? If so made from what?
  4. Sorry for not updating, but I have had no internet and been on holiday, although not much to report; tank is still cycling. Will update shortly, hopefully internet will be up and running this week. The rock is real
  5. Design and stick the rock together outside of the tank, so its in three large bits so it can fit through the top of the tank, then stick the three large bits together in the tank.
  6. Still deciding what to stock the tank with, the lighting is 2x 400w MH and 2x T5, so SPS is an option.
  7. Yes thats the overflow on the side. I'm still waiting for the sand to arrive from Singapore, hopefully will arrive tomorrow. The scraping isn't too minimalist, its a pretty big tank so thats quite alot of live rock!
  8. Thank you, its good to be back. The tank is 5 x 2.5 x 2.5 in feet. Almost finished installing the tank, and have set the live rock. Started to fill with RO, which I guess will take about 2 to 3 days.
  9. It's been years since I last posted here. My last tank for those who remember did well, but its time for a new tank Display tank size is 60 x30 x30, details to follow.. exciting times..
  10. Are you going to add a chiller?
  11. What good will that do? It seems to me you have a lot of reading to do...
  12. I returned home from Tokyo last night to find a very cloudy tank. On closer inspection, I noticed all 6 of my turbo snails where spawning, releasing eggs and sperm into the water. Should I be worried about this? Is it i sign of (before the spawning) of bad water quality? or just a natural event?
  13. I dosed myself with vodka, nitrate free now, although my head hurts a bit.
  14. I guess there isn't much you can really do. I have noticed ich on my Tang's eyes before but they recovered fine, and gave me no reason to beleive they where blind.
  15. My two cents: I don't believe there is any 'reef safe' medication. full stop. There is noway you can have a healthy marine tank without a QT. When i first got into marine I used to just stick fish straight into my display and learnt the hard way. There is nothing more heart breaking than seeing your lovely fish suffering. A cheap QT tank isn't expensive and the only way you can get rid of ich etc.. Since I started to QT everything for a minimum of 4 weeks before going to my display I have never had a problem with ich in my display. I would say about 50% of all new livestock show signs of ich in the QT. Cleaner shrimp etc do help, and I would never use NSW again as I noticed ich after using the water.
  16. checked it out on the internet, looks like a great skimmer. the seltz pumps look great.
  17. There will be pictures coming soon, the H&S is still breaking in. I only installed it on saturday after the new sump was installed. I'll post some photos soon, have to go to Tokyo for a couple of days in the morning. The only return pump apart from a Resun I could find was a Eheim 1262, nothing really pressure rated at all. I don't think the return flow is good enough, so I'm looking out for a new pump, or double up the 1262. Atleast its alot quieter now the MD-55 has gone.
  18. I looked at various skimmers for ages and even after moving the baffle in my sump I was still only left with a 30 x 35 footprint area. None of the skimmers I wanted fitted!!! Deltec 701, Ati BM etc... So I'm having a new sump made to fit the H & S, which I happend to get for a alright price, wasn't really a choice, but i'm happy with it. Looks well built and like its going to have loads of power. The new sump design is not going to leave room for the MD55 so i'm currently looking for a new in sump return pump. Aquabee or Ehiem, think I should try get a Aquabee due to power consumption.
  19. sure is, with Ehiem 1260 needle wheels.
  20. i'm pleased to annouce my new toy.
