Hi derf... maybe you can drop by hong leong... i think they have copies in english for salifert....

If you are really down on budget and still want a sump, it isnt actually very difficult to construct... just buy a desired tank size, I'm using 5 plan 2ft tank, cost me $15... some 3mm clear acrylic from hardware shop should cost about $10, a heavy duty acrylic penknife $7, silicone $6.... cut and silicone to your own dimensions... just need to search the web for how usu ppl design their sump... you will also need to factor in the cost of building or buying ya overflow from maintank to sump.... and a return pump.. I got a 1200l/h one for $22.. hope it can help you plan ya budget abit.... i went thru this exact scenario too....

Just plain difference in water level... look at the side view pic... the water level in the overflow box is much higher than the water level at the back collection box.. thing to note is that the c-siphon must always be filled with water at all times.... to get it started, you must submerse the whole thing into water and rid the c-siphon of any air.... but after this initial once and only once pain, its self starting....

I agree with Tanzy, things would look much neater and nicer with a corner cordoned off for overflow.. but I guess you need to bring to the glass makers to do that~!

I saw that also, but what is that for??? I did not ask the lfs since they are seldomly reliable.... <_

Just like to ask, is there a possibilty that lfs water has copper in them to keep the fish healthy?? Of coz not for the coral ones, but the fishies one?.. me too din really bother about "diseased" water from lfs.. but suddenly just thought about the copper....

Barracuda, too fragile as in the thin threads will break off easily or they'll die easily? Actually it looks quite nice to me leh.. provided they are long and grow in a whole bunch and not strands sticking out here and there.. haha CKS I think i know which one you referring too.. but i also cant find a suitable match online for it leh...its dull green and usu in the lfs, there's alot of dirt sticking on it right? But it doesnt look furry,... more of like ferns...

Hi all, I saw this maiden hair (Chlorodesmis sp.), issit alright as a nutrient exporter? This is what LiveAquaria says "Chlorodesmis is a green filamentous algae whose appearance is similar to thin blades of grass or tufts of hair. Its common names include Maiden's Hair Plant and Turtle Grass. It contains a toxic substance which deters herbivorous fish from eating it" Would that whatever toxic thing harm corals??? Any of you have experience with this plant? Wonder if its alright if corals do touch these plants... will they sting one another like in cases of 2 corals put together? Already got a bunch of red grape algae in the sump, is there other better kind of caulerpa which can i get? Thanx guys

Oh ok thanx guys~! Ya kinda guilty of not researching before buying, anyway it was more like a "pushed" sales... pacbetta.. its alright~! I din feel its harsh heh heh... no worries~! Yupz research is needed, but the corals in lfs look so different from those found online, for eg this one... but point taken.. will try my very best

Woa~! Thats fast thanx Xjapan, but what i gathered from the net, galaxy looks like this leh... so is mine a mutilated one?? Its tentacles are so short and can see its base~! Have I been conned by the lfs again? told me it was soooo beautiful and unharmed~!!!!

Actually, i treat all livestock no matter coral or fish the same.. that is pour half the water in the bag away, clip it in the main tank and add small portions of tank water every ten min over about an hour. I switch off all lights during the whole procedure.... after that get the livestock into the tank and i on only the actinic.. only until the next day do i on all lights...

Hmmm how about doing it this way, only those who is of a certain status say goby or higher or whatsoever get to access the "privileged forum" ?? In a way, it encourages forumers to participate in discussion and can ensure a certain level of trustworthiness as I believe AA wouldnt have the time to post that many questions and answers to that set standard..??

CHEY..... <_< heh heh

Heh heh.. okok just as I have guessed.. but i was thinking maybe it could be your dog too.. haha.. Maybe we should all thank your wife for giving u time to setup such a wonderful site for us, sg reefers~! Just a suggestion, maybe you can go get some of those aquaria brands to advertise in this webpage to offset your effort since the number of hits I guess is quite high....

Hi all, just outta curiosity... I've been in this forum for awhile, though not as long as some of you guys are but i cant help but to notice that even our founder AT is member number 2, whose number 1???? AT care to enlighten me??

me thinking os setting up a small marine tank..
newdamsel replied to thanantosis's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
You'll be disappointed in what you can keep in a 1.5ft tank.... be it the species or the numbers.... after awhile, you'll learn more about the hobby, and definetely you'll be tempted to go into more difficult corals and more number of fishies and thats when you'll feel the constraints posed by a 1.5ft... However, 1.5ft can be done, if you include a large external sump, but then might as well have a larger tank~! -
You can go to sim lim tower, if i remember correctly, level 3, a shop call sinter....

abit outta topic here, but at least this 2K spent serves lotsa functions, unlike some stones which girls like to put on their fingers.... goddamn ex and yet serves no purpose but maybe to only boost their ego.. heh heh
