  1. with all due respects to mike, choosing a skimmer is not abt measuring the cost only. there's a reason why H&S or EuroReef skimmers are that costly. They are indeed efficient skimmers, well built and performs well. i'm sure mike is taking your budget into consideration but my advice is not to skim (no pun intended) on a skimmer. not sure abt others but it is VERY important in my opinion. choose with care to avoid unnecessary upgrades in future. cheers
  2. hypervtec has a camel 'bumpback' shrimp while the pic xfusion posted is a true peppermint.
  3. yup. not to mention our climate may kill it faster!!! haha
  4. get the milwaukee ph calibration liquid at petmart. cost only a couple of dollars. cheers
  5. what is the max height u need to pump up? anything abt 5ft, forget abt eheim 1262. just my personal experience. cheers
  6. i'm not that convinced that a hybrid like that will work. not to spoil your enthusiasm but the needlewheel could even potentially disrupt the performance of the beckett. it's the concept behind the beauty of each type of skimmer and not putting all different types into one hybrid system. well. you never know until u succeed. hope to hear more of your success story soon. cheers
  7. guess joe said it right? it depends on what one wants. for me, i want the colours more than growth. tonight i just came back from overseas trip and found my purple tip acro purple in colour again. 2 mth ago when i purchased it, it turned a little brown although not totally after 3-4 weeks. i was disappointed but then after 1 mth now, the purples have returned! more beautiful than ever. guess it's a patience game with these babies and i'm getting there! shall shelve my 400W plans for now and see how it goes. thanx dudes
  8. I am using BLVs currently. I'm not exactly good at IDing the exact specimens but they are not exactly stagnant. (unless a little growth = stagnant) The most obvious growth are seen on the monti caps. I'm concern with the aclimatization of my SPS if i switch from 250W to 400W. Since i'll be changing bulbs in a couple of months, i'll just need to spend that extra on the ballasts. Will they become "chao ta" like when Hon tried to change his lights. Do the radiums provide enuff intensity? Are they too blue? Cheers
  9. I'm currently maintaining a mixed reef using 2x250W BLVs + 2x54W ATI T5 for supplements. I've got decent growth on my monti caps and clams (squamy already 60% larger than 6mths ago) my acro colonies are barely maintaining their colour and show little but not magnificent growth Barring water quality, shd I change to 400W? Which bulbs will be recommended then? I wonder how my SPS will react if I do a switch. Any experiences switching from 250W to 400W? Any posivitve or neutral effects? Cheers
  10. could it be your durso construction? any pics? do u have a air nipple installed? I managed to solved my friend's problem of gurgling dursos by simply installing a little air valve.
  11. moron clown, could u elaborate on how your sump level fluctuates. in any normal setup, your return section (the one connected to your return pump) will indicate evaporation rate, regardless on where the evaporation occurs. one simple way to keep track is like what siput said. draw a line at the return section and top up when necessary.
  12. 1st, get a PH kit. maybe u can find some second hand ones here at pasar malam. (mine is 8 in the morning and 8.4 b4 lights out) 2nd, get a kh kit. low kh = wide ph swings which exceeds the norm 3rd, if all's ok, could u post a pic of your setup? like to evalutate the water flow, placement, etc.. if not, could u please draw us something so that we can consider reasons not related to water conditions. cheers.
  13. c'mon tanzy. there's no contest to this unless you're a big ###### fan. coke rulez!
  14. something is wrong dude! where's the ipod????

probably a couple of reviews, not on A review coming up! haha and this mama is certainly not for the DIY beginners hor... damn lot of effort! btw, i dun think the patents cover Singapore territory. actually alvy in in the process of patenting his hybrid design so dun pray ard here ok! hehe
  16. Came across this tank while on RC. Enjoy Must See Tank!
  17. correct me if i'm wrong. that shd be a male lyretail.
  18. low KH will cause larger PH swings. try to keep it ard 9-10. drip reef builder if necessary
  19. the 1262 indeed introduces quite some heat to the water. and even if you do proper plumbing (reducing elbows, joints, check valves, etc) imo, check valves are not really necessary if you get siphon breaks properly installed. firstly, check valves are quite a killer to flowrate, not to mention wear and tear over a period of time. siphon breaks are simple, easy to execute methods and so much easier to maintain without compromising flow rate coming back to 1262. is is a decent return pump for ard 4 ft. 5 ft and above, it's disappointing. my 2 cents
  20. How many reefers here dose Iodine or Strontium? I wonder if water changes are adequate to replenish such elements? Cheers
  21. brilliant specimens but i reckon there are more beautiful scaping in SRC. astonishing nevertheless.
  22. for a fuge, you do not need a MH. many people use the fuge as a frag grow-out tank which explains the use of MH. try 2x36W PL. i'm using only 1x36W and my supposedly diff feather is growing like mad! i prune them weekly.
  23. bro roidan, i think watercircle has the grotech ones. cheers
