  1. Hey you guys! I'm really sorry for the lack of updates. Been busy with work and work-related courses and the latest shipment of Epinephelus lanceolatus we sold to some of the LFSs before CNY. Did anyone buy them? If so, thanks! Anyway, I'll be posting updates soon. We're working on the new 650,000 litre tank, it's a @#$%ing monster! Oh! And I'm holding a pub quiz this coming saturday at 25 Arab Street. Lets turn it into a SRC meetup! https://www.facebook.com/events/659455790848687/
  2. Yes Bunster, still available. Call me at 9862 7310
  3. Lol. I've got more people interested in silversides than anything else.
  4. Sorry, those silversides aren't for sale yet. I need them for an experiment.
  5. Saltwater and freshwater. We have them at 10 and 20 salinity. They're capable of between 0 and 30 salinity almost instantly at this age. Should be raised in saltwater though.
  6. Damn.. wanted the derasa... when you say Giant Squamosa, which species is it? T. gigas?
  7. Hey guys, I have a few of these to get rid of: Going for $10 each. Currently at 5cm TL. But be warned, you'll need a pretty big tank to house them.
  8. I'm an aquascaper who decided to make a career out of his hobby by growing seafood in a giant aquarium. http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/ScreenShot2014-09-17at13506pm.png.html] Just realised I'm wearing the same board shorts in this pic, as I'm wearing in my display picture with the dog... lol!
  9. Hey guys, I might be doing a tour on the 26th. Keep y'all posted. In the meantime, here's a link to a video: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=818064954893660&set=vb.267990176567810&type=2&theater
  10. So I finally got my lobsters in... Specifically Panulirus polyphagus http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/ScreenShot2014-09-10at11103am.png.html'> And I got these Melicertus lasticulatus as well http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_3044.jpg.html'> And a few rather massive Diadema setosum as well. http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_3057.jpg.html'> I'd love to know what this is though... Anyone know exactly what species of coral it is? http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/ScreenShot2014-09-10at11138am.png.html'> Oh! and check out this local dragonet! It's Callionymus erythraeus http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_3040.jpg.html'> And several of these beautiful peacock soles! Pardachirus pavoninus http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_3027.jpg.html'>
  11. It's that fine white sand normally used in Deep Sand Beds
  12. There's some good information available here: http://www.wildsingapore.com/wildfacts/plants/seaweed/chlorophyta/sertularioides.htm And if you'd like some, why don't we do some barter trade? I'll give you 1kg of C. sertularioides for a bag of C0 sand =D
  13. It's Caulerpa sertularioides. I'm not sure how suitable they are for smaller tanks, they've been known to smother coral. But for a large tank like this with lots of herbivores, it's brilliant.
  14. Cleaners. And to feed the humans when they get bigger.
  15. I'll be building four 10m x 10m x 2.4m tanks and one 80m x 17m x 10m tank. They won't be connected.
  16. Keeping my nitrates under control with these. http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2904.jpg.html'> Stocked the prawns too. http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2905.jpg.html'>
  17. btw, anyone got a good brand of glue to recommend for sticking coral?
  18. After 3 days things are looking much better! http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/5A09FBD2-6654-4EA8-B8AC-10242B420CC0.jpg.html'> Throwing Rhizophora apiculata propagules in to help suck up some of the nutrients as well. Check out the root growth after just 3 days! http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/95B909E5-D61E-4623-8903-BC6241189C5C.jpg.html'> Taking a break. http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/F711C18C-BDFF-4579-8B8D-12A5886D335C.jpg.html'> After a whole week of having that UV system running and the coral chips starting to clog up, I've got the water this clear: http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/257FF56F-1868-4625-8595-35F49237155B.jpg.html'>
  19. Adding Magnesium Chloride, Magnesium Sulphate, Calcium Chloride and Potassium Chloride to get seawater. Of course, I'll have to add all the trace elements as well, but that isn't too difficult.
  20. 400W UV steriliser hooked up to the 15,000l/hr pump. With 1000kg of coral chips in the filter wall. Lets see how quickly this clears up. http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/A471098F-BFE5-4109-A4BD-2736391D704B.jpg.html'>
  21. In case anyone's wondering, I'm buying the different salts from a chemical company and mixing them in the right proportions to get sea water. Here's how it looks... Car before loading salt http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2457.jpg.html'> 1000kg of salt http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2459.jpg.html'> Car after loading salt http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2456.jpg.html'>
  22. Sorry for the delay guys, but here's what I've been up to over the last few weeks: http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2478.jpg.html'> I ran out of hollow blocks... ordered some more. http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2571.jpg.html'> I know it's "DIY" but I don't have a forklift license... http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2575.jpg.html'> Me: Took awhile, but we got it all in there eventually... Friend: That's what she said... http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2577.jpg.html'> I'd like some opinions on this "Filter" wall I'm building out of 4 inch hollow blocks. And if any of you think you have a diatom problem, you don't. THIS is a diatom problem. Any ideas? http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2584.jpg.html'> They're pretty cheap, only $0.60 each. So the entire 10m wide, 2.4m high, 4 block thick wall only cost me S$1,440 http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2585.jpg.html'> And they're porous enough that if you fill the holes up, the water won't stay in for more than a few seconds. While not technically pervious concrete, it has very similar properties. http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2568.jpg.html'> I had a sample tested by some friends at DHI since I'll be growing seafood in this thing. Check out the results! I'm quite concerned about the high levels of Al and Pb, but a few of the PhDs advising me are quite sure the alkaline environment will keep these contaminants out of the water. Either way, we're doing tissue and water tests every few months to make sure everything's acceptable. And it'll all be published on our facebook page since we have a full disclosure policy. http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/3ec53108-2f49-43d5-b57a-9f3324baadb7.png.html'> Some of the Perna viridis that are sitting around in the quarantine tanks. There's a few hundred of them that we collected and cleaned. http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2540.jpg.html'> http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2539.jpg.html'> This is how a lazy person cleans his mussels. http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2354.jpg.html'>
  23. Filter media for a 200,000 litre quarantine can be hard to get your hands on at reasonable rates. It's also a massive safety issue if we're going to be snorkeling and swimming around in there. So after some testing and consulting, I hacked some 4 inch hollow blocks and built a filter wall that's perfect for coral to adhere to. http://s9.photobucket.com/user/xnsdvd/media/IMG_2210.jpg.html'>
  24. Threw in the "biological" filtration. These are Perna viridis, the Asian green lipped mussel. They do amazing things for water clarity, but can be a pain when they spawn and clog your pipes/hoses. I've found a solution to that though... More in later pictures. This is just an egg from a sunbird nest that was built in the tank. I guess the parents thought it looked like a safe place? Anyway, ACRES came and moved the nest. And this is a cardinal of some sort that came in with the bycatch. Can someone ID it? Oh yeah, tanks 3 and 2 are getting built while tank 4 fills up.
