Most tankmaker would not want to take the risk without bracing some form of bracing euro, corner etc. The higher and longer the tank goes the more chances of inviting trouble.

I think if really can't bring back to shop quickly. My digital timer last time have to depress the reset button plus another button to start off the timer first time.

I would have place the clean sand in the bucket and scoop into a container and pour slowly on the tank bed. Minimize all these problem..

I believe it's the Colour of the inhabitants and the tank..much better. But more likely to have more scratch than glass.
