  1. The ReefPack 500 comes with Comline Filter 3166. That is a mechanical filter system. It doesn't just consist of the protein skimmer.
  2. Did a 15% water change. See the filter container... it's so well designed... not a single dirt goes back into the water. Everything is smartly trapped within the plastic container... love the ReefPack 500 and it removes more wastes than I expected (I thought my tank very clean all along... lol)
  3. Another great feature! The filter is concealed inside a plastic container, so when I remove it from the filter for maintenance, not a single dirt goes back into the water... brilliant! Use a little brain and it goes a long way... I swapped a new filter (comes with 5 extras) and will sun dry the old one for future use.
  4. That piece of funny looking rock is a frag with some shrooms on it. Just a small piece, suitable for my tiny tank
  5. Thanks for your suggestion Tigger, I will look around first before deciding on the Denitrator. My NO3 is currently low, so I will definitely need one when the NO3 gets out of hand. Hopefully my Tunze DOC Skimmer will do a heck of a job to help me remove all wastes/organics so nothing much will convert to NO3. I am actually eyeing on the Aquamedic Nitrareactor 400.
  6. A all-in-one pix showing the LS I purchased today (from left to right): Green Chromis, Spiny Astrea Snail & Mushrooms. Can someone help ID the shrooms pls
  7. Wait a minute, where u find those red algae? Does it look like this growing on the rocks? If yes, keep them... they are beneficial red coralline that will stop green algae from growing on those spots. If on the sand bed, then must get rid... I've not seed red algae on sand bed leh? Can show photos? Try not to rely on chemicals so much... that's what I've been advised. You must fix the root of the problem, not keep adding chemicals to fix the surface of the problem. Hehe my 2 cents. Try the so-called "Turkey Baster". Use a fork or something, run through the surface of your sand, let the algae buried, no harm that way, they will die eventually (I think, need confirmation from other bros). Hope this helps.
  8. Hi guys! I will get my Calcium Dispenser tomorrow. So will hook up tomorrow night and will give you guys a better feel of this product. Meanwhile, you can read the text below (copied from Tunze's website). The addition of lime water is another method to increase the calcium in saltwater aquariums. The calcium hydroxide is dissolved in a separate tank by means of the water jet of the metering pump in the osmotic regulator(s). The lime water is then released into the aquarium in small quantities in regular intervals. The calcium dispenser is fitted between the metering pump and the infeed hose. All TUNZE Osmolator, Osmomat and osmotic regulator sets can be used. The calcium dispenser can also be installed in every water storage tank. The dispenser tank should be topped up with calcium hydroxide every one to two weeks. The calcium dispenser and the calcium automat can be combined to greater effect. An especially stable pH is achieved during the day as well as at night. An increase in performance can be achieved for a larger consumption. Delivery condition: Reactor, calcium hydroxide fill, holding device and connections to Osmolator, suitable for up to approx. 500 l aquariums with stone corals. Dimensions: 350 x 140 mm (13.7 x 5.5 in.)
  9. My 3 Tenors... hehe very hard to catch them in action
  10. What's the name? TQ for your help. Are they reef safe?
  11. Wow the whole setup for $40? That's a steal... upzzzz
  12. Well... I am not trying to boast, but it's quite true, perhaps a 4 feet tank, lol. Wait a minute! Why am I still stuck with a Nano Cube? lol
  13. No lah, I think sometimes experienced reefers must teach the newbies... to guide them. To warn them so that they don't repeat the mistakes the experienced reefers once did. That's what I like about this forum, I learn so much more here, more than any books out there can offer. Sorry a bit
  14. Wow bro, what's the name of the coral on the background? It is pretty. Is it suitable for newbies?
  15. I can't seem to find its ID in books and liveaquaria.com! Can someone help ID it? I bought 3 of these.
  16. Another piece of 2 cents... IMO check clearly what you want (normally through the net, check its price from reefdepot or eaquanature) and then only go to LFS. I used to end up buying things that I do not like coz the LFS say "good-lo". Some China skimmer for $140.00? Surely, he knows you're a newbie. That's why I don't shop at LFS much lately, I buy from the internet. That way, I can have a very clear mind, relax at home and make my purchase without interference. Aiya, if I'm a LFS, I'll also hard-sell certain products that give me high profit margin... example, how many times you go BEST to buy Sony, they end up recommending Samsung or LG? Same concept here. Enjoy your shopping spree... and don't let them talk you into buying things you are unsure of, always trust your first instinct. If your first reaction is "it's not gonna work"... trust me, it's not gonna work, lol.
  17. Check out Pasar Malam section, I think some bros are selling their Life Rocks (LR). If transportation is not a problem, buy from fellow bros la, help them get rid of the rocks at a much discounted price. And those rocks are usually matured cured rocks, so spare you from a lot of smell and unwanted hitch-hikers... do consider that. I can assure you a 3" tank full of uncured rocks is kinda like hell for at least 4 to 5 days! lol I bought mine 2 weeks ago from a bro and feel happily ever after...
  18. Also, activate makro coz obviously your pictures are off focus... hehe sorry
  19. You know what? Strange things do happen in nature... sometimes just makes me wanna throw all the books written by professors, biologists and aquarists away! And I still think books are overpriced in Singapore.
  20. That's why a good rule of thumb is buy equipments for the future, not for now... lol. Buy things that are double its required capacity. That's what I've been doing, rather run most of them in low mode coz I know... 2 months down the road, my hand will start to itch! lol
  21. Em... I do see a bit of improvements in this specimen, it's starting to open up and the colour is much brilliant than previous shots, prob the lighting too. But hey, I'm sure things can turn out alright if you take extra care of the fragile & demanding corals. Keep it up... do keep us update with more pix, even if some of them not doing well... just show us at least newbies like me can learn. Thanks bro!
  22. New stuff from MarineLife... now in the climatization tank. Will post an update with details once the process is over.
  23. I'll just post here for the benefit of other reefers. I bought the Solite HQI 150W w/ 14000ºK from Reborn for $320.00 (after negotiation). Saw it at MarineLife (Henry) just now for only $299.00 (list price, have not negotiate - dunno if it comes with 14k or 10k). Reborn do not stock, so must pay first then collect the next day. I guess the same for MarineLife too as that store is so small, don't think they can keep stock (not to mention the high cost). So you guys decide for yourself la, at least you have 2 choices now Hammy, I heard 14000ºK is better if it is your primary lighting. Reborn offers to upgrade to 20000ºK for $20.00 more.
  24. Yes Royal Gramma is highly recommended. It's stunningly beautiful and pretty easy to mix with others, just make sure u only buy 1 RG, not 2 lol.
