  1. Natural salt water may introduce undesirable life forms and polutants into your tank... but if your tank is still cycling, I guess it is ok. Coz filling up a 4' tank will use up a lot of synthetic salt mix (especially if you get the good ones). If you want to speed up the cycling process and less messy (and smelly), you can try buy/get from some reefers here. A lot of them are selling off their LRs. Check Pasar Malam section. Note: LRs can be quite costly too if buy from LFS especially to fill up your 4' tank. I am a newbie too, do visit my link below
  2. Photo of the week!!! Isn't it amazing? You can see the Chromis open its mouth big-big somemore... lol
  3. Try this thread... Live rocks for quite reasonable price... at least it is still inside the tank (open for viewing). http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=46118 Move fast (That's how I got mine...)
  4. So your rocks are really really dead... well I apologize for being such paranoia coz I have bad experiences with dying LR before (3 years back) and I don't think any decent person should go through that kinda torment.
  5. Thanks for your suggestions. Since I am not too concern about heat emission by the halogen lamp right now... I'll look for those submersible halogen lamp this weekend. Yeah, taking quite a lot of space and reverse light cycle is a good idea. Anyone seen these kinda lighting before? I will ask some LFS and try Home-Fix.
  6. I'm still getting a lot of tiny bubbles (top portion of the tank). According to Tunze, there are 2 possibilities... 1) Water level too low (can't be the case with the Osmolator) 2) Too much photosynthesis (by algae) happening in the tank, causing an imbalance. Emm... what does your experience tells you? Pls share with me your views
  7. Worst case, put on timer lo... every 5 min interval, run for 5 min. Those analog (old fashion) timer can do that. Don't go nutz... not gonna help your poor coral. Maybe you wanna do a swift relocation, maybe under the SEIO. That will work I think, at least your other corals can still enjoy the SEIO (some rely on it).
  8. Your tank is so inspirational bro... I love anthias and you have so many species all under one roof (or should I say hood). Nice job man!!!
  9. I wanna get some worms... tube worms that is
  10. And see what I've done to the drop-outs, lol. Nice huh? Is the sandbed a suitable substrate for these polyps? I buried it slightly.
  11. Waving Hand (Blue) 50% opened. It takes quite long for all polyps to open. I already read that this specimen is actually not easy to keep. Needs good lighting, good water flow and quality water with rich trace elements. I will make sure I can have all 3 asap so that I don't have to see decaying corals in my tank
  12. Not for the time being, Melvyn. It's quite hard for me to get this NC into the house, so I think it's better for me to wait for a while (let things settle down) before introducing a much larger tank. My next one will be quite sizeable I think, but on the other hand, I really like the small scale of a nano, it's more personal... keeps the visual very focus. And yes, I will not get the anemone and clown first.
  13. Oh dear... but they are so pretty... I know for sure they can't tolerate copper and high nitrate. And yes, they usually can't last more than a year. Ok, I will monitor it closely, if there's any sign of decaying/distress, will post pics for advise. And I will go check out what's the trace elements needed. for the advice.
  14. I am doing the same too! Look at my equipment list below... that's why I think I should stop buying new equipments, lol. The MH and the Chiller are heavyweights.
  15. No gold membership card... em... perhaps I should demand for one! Cool equipments... thanks... well that's the result of a gadget person indulging himself too much into this hobby. Yeah those betta boxes only costs $2.50 each. Fits perfectly, a bit worry about water movement inside the boxes though, read Chaetomorpha needs relatively good water flow. We'll see... Spoilt my aesthetics? The moment my NC go topless... and the introduction of the new equipments... I am already taking that route where practicality over aesthetics. I would love to move them to a refugium, but it's gonna cost me too much trouble. Please do stay tune... and feel free to give your comments
  16. I've been thinking about my new tank day and night now... but I just can't abandon this nano I'll give this nano a duration of 6 months, if I am ready to move forward by then (no crashes), then I will custom design/build a unique tank. That is if everything goes smoothly... I really wanna try add an anemone into the tank and a maroon clown. You think it will survive in there? Thinking of adding early so it can move around and find a nice spot since I have space for it now. What do you guys think?
  17. My latest tank layout. What u guys think? My water parameters are quite good actually... perhaps I'm lucky
  18. What if you move the SEIO to the back wall, facing the front wall. That way the effect will be the same and you don't see the SEIO that much.
  19. Another way is to point the wavemaker upwards, so that it will create more surface movement (a good thing) and less direct to the corals. And I seriously suggest you add a background. I think black or dark blue will look nice. It will keep the reef more focus.
  20. Always believe in the power of knowledge... bought from Reefdepot.
  21. And my Chromis sure loves it... mushrooms on the right.
  22. Colony Polyps (Orange) http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Di....cfm?pCatId=681 These guys open up quite fast... they must have love my MH, lol.
  23. Waving Hand (Blue) aka Glove. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Di....cfm?pCatId=694 This photo was taken a few minutes after its introduction into the tank, so all the polyps are actually closed.
