  1. My 3 Spiny Aestra Snails are working very hard 24/7. May move rocks like the turbo... but got a feeling they are not as strong as turbo.
  2. But you will be running it quite constantly right? So not much energy saving in the end, IMO. But I might consider it to lessen the burden of my chiller as I am planning to go even lower, perhaps 26ºC. Currently 27º - 28ºC.
  3. What about Zoos!?! Hardy and maybe can withstand your angels. Haha.
  4. Do you have a product to recommend/or came across? Do share with me, yes I think it will be a sound investment, although I have not experience any power cut within this 3 years (in my new home).
  5. Emm... went to the site. Not very sure if it's very useful... basically it does nothing except removing phosphate, which a lot of other products do... I am having algae problem too, but thinking of using the natural way of dealing with it (getting more cleaning crews). Do a review on it if you are to try it in the end. Good luck.
  6. Ok I will use other means to control algae... agree reducing light is not a proper way to tackle the problem. Actually, the bloom is not to a point of disaster yet. Just too lazy to clean the glass I guess, lol.
  7. Is 8 hour MH duration too long? I don't think I have any corals that require great amount of light. Please check my LS list, if can I will reduce the duration to 6 1/2 hours for a week or so. in advance.
  8. Keep us updated bro... wanna see how much 2 iceprobes can pull down on a 30g. What's the combined wattage? Thinking of similar product for my future tank to lighten the burden of my noisy chiller.
  9. Hey my 2 week old TECO is a dinasour!!!
  10. Thanks! I will do the following by this week. 1. Get an algae blennie.. will go islandwide look for a hardworking blennie. 2. No Kalkwasser yet. My Calcium dispenser is dosing calcium hydroxide (limewater) into the tank via the osmolator. I heard they are not the same thing. So, if needed, yes I can always get a bottle. 3. Will look for Rowaphos itself. Will throw in a bag. Will it conflict with the RowaPhos sponge? 4. Buying water by the water seems very troublesome to me... can I use those small Brita water purifier that comes in a jug? I know they remove certain elements to the water (also add something into the water so that it tastes better). What about that thing that OSIM sells? Attached direct to water tap, simple. Don't mind getting a RO/DI filter but the piping work I can't handle, not a DIY person. Yeah, glad I moved the Turtleweed. Nice to look at but not practical.
  11. What about a very long, narrow and short tank? I will have it quite high (almost eye level). Plenty of room beneath it for sump and etc. Shorter tank can use less MH. I just need a space wide enought to store my chiller... sounds like a unique tank design. What u think?
  12. Nope... I think BB is not very natural looking unless I cover the entire glass floor with Zoos or something. I already added some Rowaphos sponge to the filter to starve those annoying algaes off Phosphate. Will look for more cleaning ah-soh tomorrow. Saw some tiny little black snails (cone shape) at Henry's last week. Maybe get 20 of them, lol. And a starfish that will help clean my glass.
  13. Hehe that's why I chose Tunze... at least money worth spending... oh what a snob am I... sorry a bit
  14. Can PM me too... I bought the old Teco a few weeks ago and it is quite noisy... I think mine was made in Italy (old model). It looks hideous compared to yours. But performance wise, no complaint lah. Could the noise caused by low flow rate? Coz I am using a relatively weak water pump currently (which I intend to upgrade to be more energy fficient). So will flow rate have anything to do with noise level? Attached a pix of my beast.
  15. Polyfilter claims to be able to removes toxic heavy metal such as copper and iron especially after medication that is metal based.
  16. Strange... yalor the anemone said "can eat don't waste", hehe. Do you have a pix? Wanna see how horrible is the crime scene
  17. Wow the montipora is so impressive... must show us your new tank setup. Good luck!
  18. Em... what would you guys add next (if this tank belongs to you)... looking at the empty sand bed... give me some ideas lah! I am only interested in adding small frags. A friendly advice to all Nano newbies... if you see a piece of coral (or a fish) that looks suitable (in terms of size) at the LFS, think again. Once you bring it home, put it into your tank... wow! It suddenly feels like 200% percent larger. It's amazing how "rekative" it can be I am thinking of black Zoos with orange centre to be placed on the right of the current orange Zoos. And also add in small pieces of rocks for the Zoos to spread. What you think?
  19. My new tank layout. Notice something missing? Haha, I moved the Turtleweed to the quaratine tank coz it sheds its leaves quite often... making my tank and filter messy. I moved some LR to the top (and small pieces to the back compartments) and created more space at the sand bed. I also created a tiny overhanging cliff on the left coz I want to introduce corals that require lesser light, so can place them partly under the shadow. What do you guys think? Oh, I also fixed the microbubbles problem. I took out the Tunze Filter container and added a piece of RowaPhos sponge in there (amazingly got enough space). When I turned on the filter... wah!!! No more microbubbles... just a bit here and there. Can you spot my Sunburst? Hehe at least he is still alive... extremely shy fish though... I expect all Anthias to be very active like Chromis.
  20. Did a 15% water change and added in another piece of RowaPhos Sponge coz my algae bloom is getting a bit unsightly. Can't find any suitable cleaning aunties yet (to add to my existing snails). The Aveolpora seems very very happy with the water change. Although I am using tap water for the change. I ran it for 5 days, added Seachem Prime, Tropic Marin Seasalt and filter it for 5 days with cutout-extra pieces of RowaPhos sponge and Polyfilter. Hope this will make a difference.
  21. Hehe I got his FOC for buying the Frogspawn, lol. Thanks to my thick-skin I place it nearer to the black cave (upper right) coz that's where the current output (from Tunze ReefPack) is. It's quite a flat piece of rock and I can't find any suitable coral to put there. So hopefully these 2 tiny little polyps will spread a new colony around this area.
  22. New addition... bought it from Reborn, just a tiny frag but quite costly. Frogspawn Coral http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_di...?pcatid=519&N=2 I placed it at the centre so that it gets plenty of light and also nearer to the current output. The green tip is quite beautiful and luckily it doesn't look stress-out at all.
  23. Hehe my bad... KM Ammonia Detox removes ammonia, chlorine and chloramine. Seachem Prime removes chlorine, chlorimine, ammonia and detoxifies nitrite and nitrate. I came across a product that can removes harmful metal elements... let me check for the name of the product.
  24. Test your bottled water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and other metal elements. I'm sure the amount of those in bottled water are far less than those found in tap water (which I am using, lol). If elements found then a reduced amount of conditioner might help... just my inexperienced 2 cents.
