  1. Emm... with you $400 to $500 budget... can only get a new mini hang-on Deltec... the freestanding out-sump model is at least $750 ... so Deltec is out... I think if you don't mind second-hand, you can get even a HnS skimmer Try the Pasar Malam section first... or else your can't get much with your budget... coz it's neither here nor there... sorta stuck right in between Can consider Aqua Medic Turboflotor too... I think there are brothers selling
  2. I'm using Marine Environment salt... but the problem lies with the tap water... although I am already using a canister-type domestic water purifier (Mitsubishi brand) as first line of defense... but I still feel that the large amount of tap water can do more harm than good everytime I do a 5% water change... I now see it as fertilizer for my algae... so everytime the algae see me doing water change... they will jump in rejoice!!!
  3. IC... but regardless... I really need to take good care of this piece... make sure it thrives... I don't think Purple Goniopora is a common coral
  4. Thanks bro... I will read more on this issue... anyway my algae is not out-of-control yet... I am trying to starve them
  5. Here are some interesting info... Pix: Shot of my Purple Goniopora 1 hour after introduction... the polyps extended to around 1" yesterday... but still not fully bloomed yet. Interesting RARE LS WEBSITE provided by a kind reefer PURPLE GONIOPORA Blue/Purple Gonipora is rarely available, never available more than a few pieces at a time, and the waiting list is a mile long! If ordering this coral (from anyone), don't be surprised if you don't get it. This is not an item to base an order around. Blue/Purple Gonipora is one of the most sought after and least frequently available varieties. WOW
  6. Thanks! for sharing this great site... now I can really drool... and Black Tang is not that rare after all compared to this guy
  7. I know... that's the problem for not using proper water for our tank... but those algae can be a rich food source especially during my long vacations... my annual holidays usually stretch to 3 weeks long! ... coming this December. I am planning to run a FR (whenever I top up new water) inside my freshwater bucket... any bros/sis doing it right now? Do you think it will help? I am also planning to use the same FR to purify salt mix overnight before adding to the main tank. With proper media, I'm sure it will help in a certain degree right? If that is a Red Prata... I only paid a fraction of that range lor... furthermore is it quite a healthy-looking piece... must really thank the kind bro fulfilling my dream of owning a Pink/Red Prata... finally
  8. I have some Hair Algae too... alongside others... what are the obvious disadvantages of having them (besides the fact that they can be unsightly... which is a subjective view IMO)?
  9. Wow is it made of LED? I want also leh...
  10. You are so right about the close relationship between REEFER BUSY and TANK CONDITION... but even with Aquatronica, you cannot let the tank run by itself hor... in fact... it's better not to have Aquatronica if you are busy... coz this little guy will keep on giving you accurate information about your tank... even records how your tank deteriorates... so for a lot of us... it's better not knowing it if we ain't got the time to fix it As for Top Notch equipments... yes that will help. And most visibly is a GREAT protein skimmer... how long will you be busy? Perhaps you wanna consider selling off some of your corals to lighten the load a little... and don't overfeed Are you using any phosphate remover? How come phosphate can be high for such small water volume? Should be quite easily fixed
  11. So it is a Red Prata? Err... I paid a small amount only leh for it... can someone enlighten me what's the market price for a Red Prata around 3.5" diameter (skeleton only) Hair Algae? Not surprising... I have all sorts of Algae/Sponges growing in parts of my tank... kinda like the look though... very natural looking As long as they don't look like brown diatom... I will not be too bothered by it... or should I? I know... I know... I am not using RO/DI water
  12. Reefdepot is setting up a full DELTEC tank... hopefully it will look wonderful... since it is bearing the DELTEC brand AquaMart also setting up a fairly large FOWLR tank with the AquaMedic 6 foot tall skimmer... expect to see some nice healthy FAT Angels and Tangs in there
  13. Finally... a Tunze review... err is this not a review? I used a Tunze Reefpack 500 before (for my 24G Nano Cube). The Reefpack consists of a few components and DOC Skimmer 9005 is one of them. IMHO, it's up to your stocking pattern really, if you intend to go full reef with heavy stocking on both corals and fishes... or if you have a passion for large Angels and Tangs... I'll strongly suggest you go for something more powerful (since you have all the space in your sump to really play around)... not saying that the Tunze DOC 9005 is not good... it's just not efficient enough compared to some newer technologies out there... with that price range, you can also consider mini Deltec and Aqua Medic. All the best to you... p/s: It will be a lot more helpful for you to let us know how big is your tank/sump and what do you intend to keep.
  14. I think the long/short tentacles also have something to do with current flow... I experienced Zoas with longer tentacles when the flow is high
  15. I might pay $10 for it... if I like it and if the shop got proper lighting to bring out the colours (especially the yellow center)... really depends on where you bought it, if buy from market environment without proper lighting, then expect it to be $5
  16. Guys I am taking... always wanted a Deltec skimmer... a mini one also can lah! Now I need to get a tank to run this skimmer
  17. Wait a minute... does this look like a Prata to you guys? This is so so fun and I am such a newbie (a very confused one)
  18. Beauty and the Beast The lights are already off now... let me see if I can spot any tentacles... if yes then it is a Bubbles
  19. Bro... the one on the left confirm Pink/Red Cynarina... the larger ones still undecided... already PMed the previous owner to confirm
  20. I know... his corals all very healthy... but he is not keen in selling the corals yet as he is trying to sell everything (together with his tank/equipments) as a package... anyway... I might not even be able to afford it lah... even with 50% discount that rock of Rics still costs $500+
  21. I know... it's kinda weird right? But it doesn't look like dyed ... well time will tell
  22. Haha I do not have MH bro... BLUE is the concept of my tank... I wan't to achieve a NEON tank as I enjoy watching the tank in BLUE instead of WHITE
  23. But the Purple Gonio looks kinda disappointing under blue light I hope it will look better when I change one of my Blue tubes to Actinic next week.
  24. No it is a Red (or Pink) Bubble... see The colour is so beautiful under blue light! The skeleton looks a bit odd though... it looks like my Prata's skeleton...
