Project Tamer: Annularis Angelfish
jacobus replied to RX_GAN's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
bro i totally agree with you about the pioneering thing ... singapore is already big with freshwater fishes ... why not marine .. on the part that u mention: when the animal returns to the natural habitat. you are gonna keep the angel in solitary confinement, will it be able to handle competing with other fishes for food when it is put into a tank with other inhabitants ? the so called "hunting instinct" that u mentioned is toward coral nipping right ? or did i misunderstand u ? if it is coral nipping... like bro dlecool mentioned, might only begin after it reaches a certain stage of its life. some instincts programmed into our genes are only triggered after we reach a certain stage of life. like when we are little boys and girls we do not think about certain *things*.. so maybe u have to make sure that the angel is safe only until after adulthood ? sorry if i keep butting in like that bro.. im very interested in marine biology and i see ur thread and cannot help it ... pai seh -

Project Tamer: Annularis Angelfish
jacobus replied to RX_GAN's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
hi bro this is a interesting experiment! your annularis angel is captive bred ? i think that the reason that domesticated animals lose their hunting instinct ( although not completely ) due to the separation of their natural habitat is a very long process and may only come into effect after many many many many generations of offspring. also there is another thing: will the hunting instinct be "restarted" once it returns into its natural habitat ? just some thoughts of mine hor... dun mean to offend you in any way. btw, it would another cool experiment to try to inhibit the agressive nature of these fishes. nevertheless, good luck with your experiment! we need more bros like you who are willing to test out theories to make everyones reefing life better. -
well .. all the best for ! haha its one of my fav fish but cant keep coz tank too small and dun dare...

dun mean to be extra but ... there are 2 kinds of sharks... those that have muscles in their gills to "suck" water in to "breathe". i.e. grey nurse sharks and those that cannot "suck" and rely on either constant movement to bring water thru their gills or on strong currents to force water into their gills( they use this method when copulating ) i believe black tips are in this category. to transport that u will need a lot of cordination between UW and you as it will require a fair bit of resources like a large tub, a strong pump to force water into the sharks gills as the transport would not have enough sapce for the shark to swim about. hope this sheds some light .

i got quite abit of rockwork .. so MIA is not impossible ... and i have a bad habit of picking small specimens ... fetish for small fish maybe .. but i realised my mistake is that the flavicauda is a killer... did research and found out that the C. flavicauda or white-tail/damsel/pacific pygmy angel is a killer of other angels ... it will not tolerate other angels in its territory to the extent of murder.. i was inspired by iwarna la ... they have a tank with many pygmy angels ... somemore all quite big ... in a three ft tank .. so i figured it'd be ok with my tank ... but i was wrong ... a lesson with a big price to pay i guess... thanks for all the advice guys

hi guys .. i recently accuired a white tail dwarf angel ( c. flavicauda), an red stripe dwarf( c. eibli ), and bicolor ( C. bicolor ). they were put into the tank in the order that i placed their names. but with time difference of say 5 days to a week. at first all healthy and fed. but the eibli was picky and MIA after 2 weeks. the bicolor now MIA but it was in better condition than the eibli, though it only fed on pellets. the flavicauda is stable and feeds on everything i throw in. no fighting at all. even though i read that flavicaudas are known to kill other angels. but the flavi is the smallest of the three. anyone have any idea wat could be wrong ? or am i just unlucky ? dwarfs are supposed to be quite hardy right ? btw i have 2 ft cube.
