  1. IMO, MH is still the better lighting compare to T5/LED if we are not looking power/heat. For tank with 1.5Ft and below, you will do fine with a good quality T5. Anything deeper, you will need MH if you need to place corals on sandbed. For calm keeper, MH is probably the best as it being out the colours of your clam. Just my own observation.
  2. Halo, not bro is sis lah. Like Bro Solo said, food soaked with garlic will help the fish to resist parasite. For UV, get 1 which fit your tank volume not don't oversize too much, else it will kill no only the bad ones but the good ones too. So moderate on the size and you can turn it off if no more problem in the tank.. Safe money and bulb life too.
  3. You are welcome to my place to see the fish to temporarily cure your 'sickness' loh.. Mine is more then 1 years liao. As fat as the owner.
  4. Usually this wrasse come in Aquamarin's shipment from Maldive. Got to wait coz they had not bring in Maldive shipment for a while liao.
  5. Carbon help to remove odour and polish the water. It help to remove the yellowish colouration you had in the water. While phosphate removal remove PO4 and silicate which prevent the growth nuisance algae. Go search the web and read more about them. You will find out there are more media out there beside these 2 types which is used in the mechanical filters. below is 2 links which give a short description of carbon and phos removal from AquaMedic site. I not promoting the product ok, just sharing info. http://www.aqua-medic.de/freshwater/en/19/carbolit1/ http://www.aqua-medic.de/freshwater/en/19/antiphos%20Fe/
  6. Bro, he not Chinese teacher la.. Is a Professor from Hokkien University la..
  7. You need to be careful when putting it in mesh bag, some media like rowaphos or sorb4 will disintegrate when too much water flow goes thru it due to water pressure. Usually you need to put them in between wool to cushion the pressure. There is instruction in each media container which had this info. Go read before use. Generally, carbon are ok. If you don't intend to use FR, you can buy carbon like AquaMedic Carbolit which has the bigger pellet like size which can withstand high flow.
  8. Thread closed. Will informed the reefers accordingly. Thanks for the interest.
  9. Whether you need a FR which is short for Fluidized Reactor or not is up to individual preference. Many years ago when there is no FR, reefers using filter bags for their media like carbon, phosphate removal, etc and place them thru in an area of the sump which allow water to flow thru them. But the media contact with the water is usually compromise depending on how you place the filter bag. With a FR, it allows maximum contact of the filter media with the water, maximizing the media usage and effectiveness of the control reducing wastage. Personally, I feel a FR do a better job then the filter bags with the same amount of filter media used. Just my 2cts.
  10. Hi, I had some green + light blue digi frags (SPS) to give away which I had broken accidentally. Think I had abt 3 each. Size from 1.5" to 2.5"+ FCFS. Colour is not so bright due to high nutrient I had. But I heard from some bro who had taken from me previously commented it get better in their tank. Anyway is FOC, so cannot expect the sky lah. PM me if keen. Collection at my place (Bukit Batok area) or work place (Near ParkMall in Orchard). P.S. Sorry, only give to those whom I know personally first coz too many B-52 bombers around. Those who had earlier reserved and did not turn up after so many weeks will not be considered. You should know why.
  11. Go by 7pm so not to disturb their dinner. The place is their house as well.
  12. Another thing to note when you had lots of coraline algae growing/blooming.. It will consume lots of your Cal & Mg too. Your corals tend to suffer as they 'fight' with the coraline for the Cal/Mg/Strontium among others to grow. So you need to be more generous with your supplement if that happen. Like what Bro gny mentioned, regular scrapping will be needed. So enjoy the growth while you can.
  13. Purple-up had both Cal & MG and also help to boost the KH. This is IMO a lazy man dosing liquid which is 1 of the reason why it was produced. Rather then buying seperate Cal & MG supplement.
  14. Since you are using purple-up, there is some MG being dose but not sure enough a lot. Also need to know condition of your rocks and system maturity as well. You may need coraline "seedings" to have a quicker reaction for new tanks. Mine took a couple of months beside I see it spread. The few 2 to 3 months, I get coraline spots here and there. Just a note, coraline is nice to have but once it spread like wildfire, it will compete with your corals for space. I had personally seen tanks with them over-running the corals.
  15. The last post is more then 2 years back.
  16. Folks, Just a word of caution. Message in your PM can also be used as against you when needed. So excercise with care. Go on private chat or sms if you want to exchange such info.
  17. Based on the first post, he is also after the crabs too. Not sure if that bristle worm is a big one thou. I used to have one which is more then 6 inch long. Large bristle worm may attack your fishes at night when they hunt for food.
  18. Good. Since you are not keen in the coraline. You can dry the rock. The worm sure die. After that you may want to wash and soak the rock in sea water before putting back into tank.
  19. I used to have a copperband which I bought to help to consume aiptasia years back. When there is no more aiptasia, my tube worm, then zoas started to vanish. I manage to catch the fellow before more damages.
  20. Your are welcome but I'm no chemist la. Just learning thru experience over the decade of keeping marine. Don't spend too much measuring all the parameter except you are keeping very dedicated SPS. Observe the tank well and you will be able to tell if your parameter are right over time. E.g. when PH fluctuate, it is likely MG factor... etc.... P.S. This a hobby to enjoy and relax.. Don't be a slave to it..
  21. IMO, why don't you go for dead or dried rocks then. The reason being if you put live rock in fresh water overnight, it basically kill nearly everything and some of it may be rotting from within the rock. So you may have an issue when you put it into the main tank later. If you are thinking of preserving the coraline algae, the fresh water will kill it as well.
  22. If you want to raise it a bit more to abt 8.3, should be ok too. Try dosing MG, it will help in stabilising those fluctuating PH. Also, if you had fishes which poo a lot, your PH will definitely drop as well.
  23. Wau. Then is time to sell my 1 year 4" AT liao.. Come ar.. Eating greedily and getting rounder..
  24. Aiya, don't have knee jerk effect lah.. The oil price has tumbles for the past weeks.. So you will see the reverse in the nx 3 months. Anyway, u can afford a new car, what is a nano tank to you. Think you just want to have more time to "chiong" izit.
