i'm assuming you are referring to a 5ft X 3ft(width) tank with a 6ft cabinet. This size should be fine with either 2 ft or 2.5 ft in depth.

i 2nd Larry's recommendation. For big thriving tank with lots of SPS. Good to go CR with KR. KR will compensate the low PH from your CR and also support KH level. Folks with large thriving SPS tank know the KH got suck up very very quickly.

That's the problem with butterfly. Generally most species are not reef safe. But they are 1 of the nicest more affordable fish.

yes. I 2nd wide spread method. Spreading it wide enable more of the cheato to be expose to the light and encourage growth which mean more absorption of nutrient like what was mentioned.

Is a good question. Probably those keeping marine in the 60s or 70s will be able to tell more. The very first encounter with a fish shop with marine fishes was at a row of shop houses which were at the site where SOTA(Prinsep Street) is now. What caught me then was cooperband butterfly! The color was stunning. This is in the late 70s. I can't really remember what others was there. The roll of shop shop was where Red Sea Aquarium is before they moved into Parklane shopping mall.
