To those "reef crammed with SPS" keepers...
Mellow replied to Joe_P's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
same sentiments as fuel..I think the base of the colonies are not getting enuff light??? My green humilis is also showing signs of the base tissue receding. About 5% or less at the base experiencing that. The rest of the colony is doing very well though. -

Yah, love the tank at marine pets. so colourful and the corals extend very very well...but I guess that's because Gilbert is really diligent in maintaining his tank, doing water changes fequently, not forgetting his years of experience in reefing and the range of products that he can help himself to! haha... -

Will torch corals stings?
Mellow replied to gtrigger's topic in Weekly LFS Stocks Report / LFS Info Centre
I dun think they will sting each other. Just make sure they get enough space for expansion. Have fun reefing! -
Check out this Danish tank!

Hi Jas_soh, I dun think there's any way you can take a peek inside coz they do not have glass doors or anything like that. I was there about 1-2 years ago and they had the main 9 feet tank, in additon to tanks which housed mangroves, clam tanks, fowlr and etc...can only remember so much....besides the 9 feet main tank, the other very nice tank is the mangrove tank man. It looks just like the julian sprung's tank featured in his book. That's probably because he knows julian sprung personally....cool man! heh... -
I'm also using 5ml of water only. hmmm...might have different versions?

lovely tank. The schooling fishes makes it look so natural... In any case, just wanna share with u guys regarding this tank by Jeremy. I mentioned this to AT before and finally remember where his place is. Probably the best tank I've seen in Singapore. Just remembered where his 9 feet tank is...at Kitchener complex near lavender. He's shop is called reef and nature I think. He's a real secretive guy and not sure if he'll entertain people who just wants to see his tank coz he is actually running a business. Abit dao..heheh. but he's got stuff to show....no kidding. yup yup, to those lucky guys who ever get to see his tank, u're in for a treat!!! cheers... -
The raw value u get from the chart is a measure of the NO3 ions. So dividing it by 4.4 will give the nitrate value in mg/l...hope that helps

haha...sounds funny! I've got a false percula and it seems to enjoy ###### onto the tentacles of my hammer! looks a little gross coz it seems to enjoy it and will hang around for some time with it in its mouth! it recently started ###### onto the little tentacles of my elephant ear. causing alot of stress to the elephant ears man!

Hi people, I've got the above skimmer for sale. It is rated up to a 200gallon tank. Model number is ASF 100 I think. Bought it at $170 inclusive of dymax 2500l/h pump just 3 months ago in September. All the piping has been done up already, so it's plug and play. Willing to let go at $100. Pm me if interested yah? I'm sorry but i've got no pictures. You can refer to the below link. It's the same skimmer....Thanks and looking forward to selling it! http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...c=7782&hl=macro

looks 25 to me too...

Hi AT, Doesn't peppermint shrimps feast on acros? I read somewhere that they do and I also had my fair share of experience of them causing damage to my acros...really sad...

Hi Joe, I think there's a fair chance of the copper bands taking a nib at the sps... But then again, I find sometimes it is a matter of luck as well...sometimes, they just don't if they are happier with other food sources. But I've seen/read about some tanks overseas having success in keeping copper bands with corals. how abt burning them with kalk??? or there are just too many aiptasias for this solution?
-
yup, getting a good skimmer certainly helps....

Hi fuel, You saw sps at LCK 110??? Did they just come in or from last week's shipment??? Any staghorns or monti caps??? and are there still alot left? I missed the monti caps at PR last week.. no money then! haha... -
Hi boxfish, Thanks for your help. But when u meant it's gonna be tight, do u refer to the use of the Urchin or Urchin Pro??? Coz the Urchin is only 17.5 inches while the Pro is 21 inches. I was thinking if I wanna remove the collection cup, another idea would be to tilt the skimmer abit to allow easier removal. Any comments? Hi fuel, Thanks for your suggestion too. I dun really hang onto my display because fisrtly, I dun really like to have equipments hanging out. Find it unsightly lah. heh. And besides, I'm only using 6mm glass for my 3 feet tank. Dun wanna add further strain on the glass It's right next to my bed. If it burst, I'm in big trouble! heh....
-
Hi people, Is anyone using the above skimmers? I'm thinking of getting one but the only constraint is that the available height in my cabinet is 24 inches. I've read the specs of the Urchin and Urchin Pro and their heights are 17.5 and 21 inches respectively. So the question is will my cabinet height be sufficient, taking into consideration the removal of the collection cup?? Thanks alot for your help in advnace...

Hi Fangtooth and Chrislwp, Besides being nitrate factories, i dun like the idea of them(bio balls and ceramic rings) trapping all the detritus/dirt in between which eventually will have another boost on the nitrates... I think it might be better to have a bare sump instead. Or if u like, u can place large amounts of live rocks(berlin style) to lower the nitrates further or employ a refugium if u have the space...they are much better than bio balls or ceramic rings IMHO. A Denitrator is another alternative but I think it is better to set up a filter system that can support your bio load rather than using getting too many commercialized on products and wasting money... Anyway, back to the tetra test kits...do u guys using it know what it means on the instructions outside the box where it says u have to divide the value we get by 4.4???
-
Hi flipper, I was also using a tetra nitrate test kit and it also showed 100mg/l... I've got a good feeling the test kits are not accurate. dun think any live stock can survive long with nitrate level of 100mg/l... but u might wanna consider removing the bio balls and ceramic rings in your sump...cheers bro and happy reefing. pretty neat tank u've got!
-
hi flipper, what brand of test kit are u using by the way? I also had the same problem as u where my tank showed nitrate at 100mg/l. but the only thing is that everything in my tank is doing well so I kindda suspected that the test kit is not accurate. Try changing more water and see if the readings will go down. or U can set up a refugium or employ more efficient skimmers etc to lower the nitrates. As what blenny said, it will be good if u can show us your setup? Easier to spot what's wrong. Oh, remove whatever bio balls u have in your tank... might be a cause too
-
yup, people normally put in 'unsightly' stuffs like carbon and certain filter media into sump. In addition, u can hide your protein skimmer, and some of the equipments in your sump. kindda makes your set up neater...
-
nope..sun coral is normally orange and rounded although sometimes might come in other colours. Cup corals, as it's name suggests, resembles a cup with pretty long polyps( almost 1 inch for mine) and is normally greyish with slight green.... hope that helps
-
hi, u might wanna try using stockings as the media bag! it's cheap...or better still, take from your mum or wife...heh
