Review on the different kinds of Marine Salts
Mellow replied to hongqixian's topic in Product Reviews
IMHO, I feel dissolvability should just be one of the many factors that we should use to compare salts. I think like what some has brought up, we should also look at the level of trace elements, calcium magnesium etc that's present in the salt mix as well as the undesirable things like nitrate or phosphate that may be present in it as well as the ph of a fresh mix. I remember reading a review on RC whereby they actually did lab test on the level of the different trace elements that are present in the various salt mix available...Can't remember the results though. Do a search on it...shud be able to find! I only remember that kent and instant ocean seems better overall though some brands might outshine others in certain areas.... As for myself, I was using deep ocean for a while before switching to instant ocean. Don't see any diff while using deep ocean but after using instant ocean, it seems easier to maintain high alkalinity levels although i can't be too sure if instant ocean was the actual contributing factor..... Before that always having problems maintaining above 8dkh... my 2 cents -

your white xenia is lovely man!!! seems like all your corals are spreading really well!!! nice nice!!! Can't wait to see an overgrown tank in time to come...keep it up GT... do be careful of the green star polyps though. Bought the same kind as you and it was lovely...but it came to a point of spreading so fast and started burning some of my acro colonies..in the end gotta remove the whole piece of LR....

How to prevent microbubbles from entering tank
Mellow replied to ervine's topic in General Reefkeeping_
regarding bubbles forming when water gushes into your sump, maybe u can try putting a glass vase or something in the first chamber where water from your overflow gets into your sump. Use a vase that's slightly higher than the water level in the first chamber and direct the outlet pipe into the vase. The water will overflow the vase as it enters the sump thus helping to dissipate the bubbles... it acts like a baffle basically.... -

hello, is it 2X55w or 1X55w for each set? -
I've tried the flatworm exit with pretty good results. Hated it last time when i see them all over my mushrooms..but gone were the days... did 2 doses over 1 week....and they disappeared. Just make sure u read the instructions carefully. the toxins they release is pretty potent when they die

Yah man..notice the same thing when I keep handling some of the colonies...the coloured tips tend to fade a fair bit until i left them alone...
