Hi all, I'm considering selling my existing 250w DE MH set, inclusive of external ballast, some DIY chain to hang the pendant from ceiling as well as a 6 months old 10000k BLV bulb. The wiring on the ballast is abit messy looking but have used it for 2 years without problems. Just painted the pendant as well. The pendant is white. Will try to post a pic tom. Those interested, can dop me a pm. Thanks. By the way, I can deliver the lights only after my new lights are in.

I think it's best to have a chiller. I was using 250w DE while I had my 3ft tank. About 11 inches from water surface. The temp managed to go ard 26-27 only because at night I have my aircon on. In the day turn on profantic fan. Balances out quite well. But if purely on fan, it will prob average 27-29? Not forgetting the hot spell experienced just a month ago. I believe can even hit 30 with just a profantic fan during the hot season. That's why I always have a tank in my room. At night, sleep with aircon. Helps alot. Save money on chiller and can cool myself and the tank...only issue is balancing the temperature fluctuations.

Just cleared my tank and removed the plenum yesterday. Didn't test the water coz I don't have the necessary test kits. But my observation is very similar to Tanzy. Really dirty on the top layer of the sand. But as I got to the plenum area, water is clear and free from all the detritus buildup etc. I'm not sure how hydrogen sulphide smells like, so haven't got any idea if they were present though. And lastly, about 2cm down from the top layer of my sand bed, the sand were all clumped up into huge chunks of sand stone. Had to use a screwdriver to break them apart before I could even get to the plenum space. Any thoughts or things to add regarding this phenomena? What I know is that certain chemicals causes the precipitation and binding of the sand together. Is it correct?
