  4. I had the same thought right from the begining. However, must wait till the shop bring in the fittings. Else, only the supplied atman pumps will fit the unions supplied!

  8. I tried two ways on my new clams. 1. Soak the clam in fresh water for a few minutes. 2. Just use a pen knife to scrape it off. Frankly, I prefer the pen knife method. Do exercise caution!
  9. If you simply swap out the old overhead filter with the new external one, then I think your new external bio filter killed your fishes. Reason being your new filter has no bacteria to cope with the high bio load. With so many fishes, the water conditions will worsen so quickly and kill all your fishes in no time. You should really try to take care of the sole surviver!

Based on the above information from Eric Borneman, it is likely you have dieoffs in an area with little flow and hence hydrogen sulfide is being produced and the pathogic bacteria was given a chance to grow and multiply there. Have you tried taking it out of the water to take a sniff as I suggested?
  11. Nice tank! IMHO the duckbill will result in high headloss. Better to go with the normal round opening for better flow!
  12. You get the spider web thingy from die-offs. If/when you take it out of the water to clean it off, get it a quick sniff, you'll know what I mean . . .
  13. Just to answer some quires, the skimmer is plug and play. Pump is provided and very low in power consumption. You can trust german technology Also a very small foot print. Requires very little clean for the skimmer, but you should clean the cup often to get optium skimming. Do consider!

Function: In this rotating jet skimmer, the strong water jet of the pressure pump generates a constant, fine-pearly air bubble mixture, which escapes to the top through a discharge system with a length of 1.20 m into an easy-to-clean foaming cup. By this means the water in the contact pipe itself becomes “poor” in protein particles. The inflow from the aquarium then takes place more or less automatically due to the so-called molecular compensating pressures = diffusion. A further TUNZE invention is the principle of contact skimming which prevents living plankton from being drawn into the pump circulation. Eighty per cent or more of the organic substances, such as proteins and cellulose, are removed from saltwater aquariums by these modern automatic skimmers.   16. Can be hung in tank but its inside the main tank, not hang on back. So will be quite ugly coz it will occupy alot of space. In sump will be no problem.

As for pricing, since its a one and a half year old skimmer, I'll let go at around $200 or better. Self collect at Tampines. Bought at $350 from Reef world. Letting go as I changed skimmer.   20. Oh, I have spend serious time thinking about this before. The only way I think to make it work without one chiller working harder then the other and yet save power is: Plump the two chiller in parallel, not series. Disable one of the temp controller. Using only one controller to control both the chiller at the same time. This way, the water is chiller twice as fast aas the water fed to the chillers is parallel. There will be no temp difference between the two chiller because its run by one controller. Yet should one chiller fail, the other will continue operating! What do you think???
  21. Well, its called TURBO-SKIMMER, from Marine Sources, think its from Hongkong, not too sure. Yup, it looks just like a DIY, a very well made and copied DIY I must say! As to what kind of skimmer it is, its sort of like a venturi pump skimmer except it does not have a venturi. Air is sucked into the pump and the impeller simply chops it up.
