I ve just done the same thing. I have a 2 feet tank. Happy with it but decided to try to be happier. Committed on a 3 feet w Sump. Firstly u need to choose a tank maker. He should be able to answer most of your qns but do feel free to get second opinions here as i ve done. Key thing to me on this part is your sump design. Keeps me awake every night thinking about the sump. Mine wasnt a simple plain vanilla one .. So it took me some ding donging w tank maker to sort it out. Secondly ... The equipments. Plenty if permutations to consider.

Tx Bro. Actually i know what to do to create a balance . Am seeing the tank maker to tell him in.person what i want. Essentially i will separate the chaeto and the horses via an eggcrate. Display will only show the horses side of the tank. Secondly. My flow will be from sea horse side ---> chaeto side ----> return pump. That way pods can good solace on the chaeto and more likely they will flow out to return pump compartment. Some may escape towards the seahorse side of the refugium which is perfect. Thanks Mike, your views are always appreciated and sought after. Ok... understand your point... will weigh this carefully. I do not intend to keep any fishes in refugium... as u say, if fishes are in there, all the pods etc will be gone. With SH, I hope with ample feeding, the pods get to thrive in the same refugium tank w the SH. Am going down to tank maker and fish farm to understand more before I make a final decision. Once the tank cabinet door is cut, I am in it to beautify the refugium... with or without SH.

Thanks again for the feedback. I am now more inclined towards making up this refugium display. Yes, will keep max 2 or 3 seahorses. I am quite fearful of keeping delicate creatures + I want the space for the chaeto. So, yes, max 2 (or 3 ) seahorses for me.

Bro. Tx for the tips. Any idea if seahorse are easy to survive in such a refugium. Its a tough decision for me.... If i want to turn the refugium into a display tank, i will need to cut a square hole in front of the cabinet door to display my refugium. So i gotta be v sure i want this. Else there will be an unsightly hole on cabinet door if the display refugium turns out a failure. Secondly ... How to put chaeto and seahorse in the same tank?

Has anyone turn the refugium into a "display tank" and keep seahorses in it? My tank-maker say I can consider that as I am keeping a sizeable refugium. I Googled it and has mixed reviews on doing this. Anyone has any experience with this to share?

I am facing this same dilemma... should I leave the chiller outside the cabinet, giving more space for sump. Or should I keep it inside the sump cabinet and go through the challenge of keeping the compartment ventilated sufficiently. Pros an cons for each.

I m now designing my own sump design for a new tank. From my skimmer compartment, the next compartment will be the return pump. Am worried that since the Skimmer and Return Pump compartments are next to each other, micro bubbles may emerge from skimmer and go straight in to the tank via the return pump. 1. does reefers here have a similar sump design? Any problem with micro bubbles? 2. i intend to put filter socks on the Skimmer outlet. would this greatly reduce micro bubbles output ? Thanks.

I just met n30. New tank take 3 weeks. Give him 1 extra week for delays, its probably 1 month to do the tank!!! Besides buying from resale, anywhere can do it faster? If I go direct to Atlantic Glass beside G O, will they be faster? For these makers, I reckon I ve to be very specific with my measurements to them ya? Considering that the Sea Water is cheap and includes living micro organisms. Wouldnt it be a no-brainer that for a new tank, we should use sea water include of salt-mixed water to kick start a new tank cycling?
