  1. Rare visitor in sight! Seldom see him perched outside....got him a week back and hope he'll get more daring... CUTE fish! Sry, abit OOF...
  2. Hrmz, saw them at AM and Ah Bengs a couple of weeks back...cute fellas
  3. Thats true....mine never did poison anything. Oh, heard that they are not 100% reef safe...so you'll have to take your chance...
  4. Haha, its pretty bearable actually...if you run carbon and have an efficient skimmer. The smell is just barely noticeable, what i do not like is all the die off/debris that fall onto my sandbed from uncured rocks...
  5. Upgrading is a never ending process....and of course buying equipment that are over-sized/rated is good...if you can afford to. Hehe, im still stuck with my cheapo 3 ft T5s. The amt Jerv spent on the equipment can buy my whole 3FT tank already....with everything inside!
  6. Your piece of LR looks funny.... Btw, what kind of snails are they?
  7. Add the live rocks now....it'll kick start your cycle. Think of what kind of scaping you want and go get the LRs....preferbly in 1 go. Adding new LRs ater your tank has cycled is not advisable, it'll create a mini ANN cycle again. Do you have a sump? Maybe you can list out all the equipment you have...
  8. Those 2 in a different compound? The one nearer the gate disnt have anything special the few times i passed by, the one further inside has a wider collection of corals....but if you want fishes, ah beng is still the place to go, much more choice. Reef n Nature at Farmway 1 is a nice place for corals and fishes too.
  9. From Live Aquaria Caution: This fish secretes or releases toxins that may kill fish in the aquarium. The species may release toxic compounds when stressed, or release toxic compounds when it dies.
  10. No problem...always glad to be of service.....
  11. Hrmz, where will you be putting the sump? Just abit curious how a sump can be added to a nano system w/o it looking "out-of-place". Get a custom built cabinet? Nvm, this is ... hehe, shan't mess up lzy's thread.....
  12. LoL Yeap, it'll be great if you can resize your pictures....i keep mine to a maximum of 700 pixels (the longer side of the pix).
  13. Like Jervismun mentioned, what kind of equipment you'll need really depends on what kind of a reef you wanna build. FOWLR? In that case you won't really need a chiller. LS can withstand higher temp than corals. Are you planning a tank with a sump? If not you'll need to get a decent cannister filter. Preferbly 2 and rotate cleaning them. If its only FOWLR, you wont need those high power lightings like Mh, a decent T5 will be good. Protein skimmer is arguably one of the most impt piece of equipment in any home aquarium....try get one that is over-rated for your tank size. There is no such thing as over-skimming( accordingly to some reefers/books) and getting a bigger skimmer will enable you to reuse it if you one day decide to upgrade. I think http://saltaquarium.about.com/ is a good read.....
  14. Haha, you are the pet detective mah, everything also can catch...oh, when will you be going for your "fishing" again? Maybe can organise a gropu outing yah? Sounds pretty fun.... Btw, i love nudis! AM alwats has these very nicely coloured ones...anyone has any success in keeping them before?
  15. Hrmz, my Ph refuses to stay around the range of 8.3....after i buff it up to that level, it'll always drop slowly to around the 8.0 range....mine hovers ard 7.9(night time) to 8.1(day time). Anyway, the calibrating liquid i ordered isnt here yet, let me know if you cant find any....i'll call up the LFS and maybe order 1 for you too....
  16. LoL...i love your avatar. Hrmz, will they like chip of coralline algae whilst they are cleaning around the LRs?
  17. Hrmz, i guess 29 to 30 dgrees is with everything running already? Anyway, mushrooms and zoos are some of the most hardy corals around and will do relatively ok in that temp range...maybe you could start a thread in the "member's tank n specs" thread with pictures provided so we can get a clearer picture of what you are running in your system. Oh, a list of LS in your tank would be good as well, some LS peck on corals...
  18. if you want, maybe you can try some hardy corals like zoos or mushrooms....can try with the cheaper variety first and see if they'll survive. Cheaper ones are normally less than $5 a piece...
  19. be careful of those normal sponges you find at the supermarkets though, some of them might contain harmful substances/chemicals which will pollute your water...
  20. Nah, don't think you should do that, you might have a harder time trying to catch your boxer...a fish missing for a single day isnt a problem....esp if its a new arrival, keep a lookout for the next 2 days or so...im sure its ok...
  21. AM had a shipment of orange plates...maybe you can call and ask them? I dont think theres anything wrong in having just 2 percs as LS in a tank like that, but if you are worried that bioload will be too high, get some blennies or maybe even a single RG....
  22. I've seen jellyfishes retailing at LFS before too, black ones, bluish ones...but they are not suited to home aquarium life, will prob perish within a few weeks....
