  1. Yup....soak your mysis/brine shrimps overnight with garlic juice, pellets don't have to soak so long, an hr or 2 would prob be enough, they absorb it very fast.
  2. Yup...measuring the amt of nitrate is one of the basic tests reefers do. But im not sure if a hermit only tank would require that....you could very well just get away with regular weekly water changes, hermit do not poo alot...
  3. Hrmz, water change might help abit but as a long term solution, might be good if you can find a way to leave your tank fishless for 6 to 8 weeks to be sure. My fishes are suffering from itch too and for the time being, i'll just leave them in the tank and see how things go. Been feeding them with garlic soaked food and hrmz, cant say if it really works yet. An UV light would help abit too. Gd luck.
  4. Hrmz, any really good and realiable tank makers to introduce? How much would a 5x2x2 tank with cabinet cost approximately?
  5. Hrmz, i guess if you are just keeping hermits, you won't have to change water very often...maybe just once a fortnight? Thats provided if you don't overfeed. A good measure of when to change water is to measure your nitrate level....
  6. Haha, basically they'll display all the nice stuff in the front of the shop. Behind is sort of a quarrantine/holding area. Most of the times you will not find anything in the back thats not displayed out front. The LRs are kept in the back too...
  7. Haha, thats what im afraid off....are there any nicely sized clams left? And what will i have to feed the tiny maxiams to keep them alive? Your sun coral looks pretty healthy...
  8. Erm, saw some at Irwana some time ago....not really sure if they still have it now though. Few shops carry them as they are not really in demand i guess...
  9. Haha, another AM supporter....have to agree its quite a nice place to go "shopping". Hope i can finish work early tonight and pop by for a while. Any nice clams left?
  10. Haha, your tank is getting nicer and nicer. Sun corals sometimes takes a few days to open up nicely. My yellow specimen took nearly a week...but once they stablilise, they are beautiful, stays open even under my Mh during feeding time...
  11. Erm, where in the world can we go and catch pods? Sounds interesting....would like to join in too...haha
  12. Hrmz, thats the 1st time i heard of something like that. Shrimps dying proberbly has something to do with your acclimasation techniques or your water parameters. I bought a shrimp loaded with eggs once and didn't accord it any special care. Its still well and alive till now...
  13. From the condo, its around a 10 mins walk to reach this location. Anyone has any idea whats left from the clearance sale?
  14. Hrmz, if you are worried, maybe you could just removed your sailfin for a quick dip in freshwater. Be sure not to overstress it though.
  15. Why not just get a 150w Mh? Maybe those clip on types or something.
  16. erm, when you mention controller, i take it as you mean the media like rowaphose? Im using my rowa in my cannister filter and seriously speaking, i'll be better off using a FR. A dedicated media reactor helps to make full use of your anti-phos media. As far as i know, you do not remove your phos controller even if your P04 is zero, leave it there and it'll help to maintain it at that level.
  17. That really depends....i have not much experience on hermits. Had a few in my tanks before...in my opinion, they are very hardy. In general the land based hermts are much laregr than those which are sea based. Some of the easily found sea based hermits are the electric blue, red, dwarf and not fogetting those common hermits. Ah Bengs had some electric blues last week, ML carries them very often....market rate is around $5 for the blue, and around 7 or 8 for the red. Not really sure to give you an exact amt though. The land type and sea types are both pretty managable even by newbies. For the sea type you'll just have to make sure your water quality is ok. Don't have to add anything like trace elements else even. Occassional feeding will be more than enough.
  18. Some LFS sells books at very competitive prices too...keep a lookout when you visit any LFS...
  19. According to what i understand from my limited knowledge, bubbles are one of the LPS corals that will more likely sting other corals. Its safe to add a few bubble corals together though. As a general guide, its safer to leave some space in between different species...just to make sure. 55W should be good enough to meet their lighting requirements. They are one of the most hardy corals in my tank...
  20. Hrmz, 2 spots normally stay on or around the sanbed....wonder what would have made your jumped out.....the only fish i had that jumped out was my long nose hawk....
  21. Try not to buy there though, i bought my "The conscientious marine aquarist" there and it costed me nearly $20 more than what other places were selling.....
  22. Hrmz, it does look abit skinny to me...is it ok if i bury abit of the shell in the sand? Will it cause the clam to not open up as much? Any best angles to leave the clam at? Hrmz, wheer was the display tank where they put the clams? They dont have mh for those normal tnaks, only for the blue tubs where they put their ultras....
  23. Ah beng is at farmway 2....i think pacific marine is there too. These are the 2 bigger shops there. In farmway 3 you have Irawana and in Farmway 1 you have Reef n Nature....
  24. Hrmz, no experience on clams...does this one looks ok?
  25. Hrmz, those small small clams in PR are pretty nice. Wonder if those mini utras on sale now will be coloured as nicely as that.....anyway, theres this maxima in AM's small tank, is that an ultra or normal maxima?
