think you did not prime your canister properly resulting in air trapped in your canister.. other cause is that your intake is too close to water surface and is taking in air..

agree with nwyk153 that canister is a huge hassle.. back to your point.. you can try out some less demanding corals given that you are using chiller.. corals like zoas, mushrooms and even some LPS like sun corals.. you are using FL lights right? if so, you might consider upgrading your light set.. having blue light helps to bring out the colours of your corals..

How effective would this be? I notice genuine newbies asking questions and most of the times the questions are replied by other newbies themselves.. to be honest senior reefers and mods most of the time do not participate in giving constructive ideas as well... would love to see more sharing of information but unfortunately i doubt we can impose a hard and fast rule on this.. of cos we can have some preventive measure but to reach the goal of sharing i think we are seriously lacking.. and i agree with Ah Siang's comment on posting pictures.. technology is pretty advance nowadays and posting pictures normally would not harm.. i'm sure we would like to avoid another 10inch black tang issue again..

Alot of stuff are all based on experience.. of cos you can try out what you want too but it MIGHT be a waste of time and money.. worst if tank crash.. so do some reading up (i'm sure you are already doing so!) and you will slowly pick up the dos and dont's of this hobby..

Not sure if you are able to connect a sump for the RSM giving that it is suppose to be a plug and play.. you might need to drill holes There are many different skimmers in the market to choose from.. A good indicator of equiptment is to see what are the skimmer experience hobbist normally use.. and there are different views about the situation you discribe (overskimming).. IMHO i think its better to "Overskim" In Sump Chiller i think only have 2.. Iceprobe (not practical for your tank cos underpowered) and compressor (a titanium coil place in-sump).. for the rest, yes, you would need a pump for the chiller.. Usually part of the sump design, likes of Filter socks, wool, and even the use of FR for PO4 remover.. you can also consider using biopellets.. HTH!

a couple of angels will be nice.. FA would be a good choice.. Have always like FA but to each his own! if possible avoid tangs.. mainly for 2 reasons.. Ich and Poop!

dun think its very possible.. i believe they need to be in high nutrients water to survive... if thats the case.. you cannot keep alot of corals le.. LOL

brittle stars are good CUC too.. there is this kind of snail which is quite good as CUC too.. let me pass to you when your tank is setup.. The CLINIC also got alot of those snails.. Kio Zup.. that day CF i tried to find dun have leh..
