The temp on the chiller is reading the temp from the water in the heat exchanger, not the tank temp. The higer reading on the tank is most likley correct. You will need to find a set temp on the chiller which will allow it to run to drop the temp significantly of the tank. For example my chiller is set to switch on at 28 and off at 24, this gives a true tank temp of approx 27 +/- 1 degree If i set the temp at 27 it would run on and off for short periods. The flow rate to the chiller is also having a significant influence. Too slow and the water in the heat exchanger cools too fast and the chiller switches off, too fast and not enough heat exchange takes place and the chiller just runs extended periods.

Xpert 1974 Now a serious answer to your question - No a 1/4 hp chiller is not suitable for your size of tank and lighting. If your really want a real tank temp of 27 deg, 200+ gallons and 1000w of lights you should look at min 0.75hp but more realistic would be 1 or 1.25hp

My powder blue has never been a problem for the past 18 months in my tank. Within the last week it started to take a fancy to the tentacles of my 18 month old elegance coral. The elegance is now look a little worse for wear and I guess will be the looser in this one. Anyone else had a similar experience with powder blues?

I started up my tank almost 2 years ago with a DSB, not my first DSB Within 6 months or so of setting up i started to get a lot of cyno. Investigation of the DSB lead me to conclude that the expected level of life to make the DSB function was just not there. In light of all the press at that time, I removed the DSB( ok a little bit left here and there)and within a matter of a few days all the cyno had gone. Not a long term observation or absolute conclusion, but my tank improved so quickly from there. In a few months i will move and re-set up the tank. The bare bottom remains.

To all who pm'd me. After a very hectic few weeks we have finally found suitable accommodation, consequently i no longer need to sell off everything and i will move the tank and contents to our new apartment. Sorry for the change of plan and any disappointment.

I have a healthy Elegance for some 18 months. At least 3 others i have tried have shown the same problem as given in the above link. They started ok for a day or so then went downhill. The healthy specimum was not effected.

My tank is 5ft 24inches deep, lps under 3x250W no problem, great growth and health. 150 w x 3 for same depth also works. In both cases you must keep the Ca level up to keep them long term
