Hey Bro Kenny, Yup, that tank was from him. l still thought i was the second owner. The tall tank cabinet and hood were pretty well designed.
-
Thanks bro. Will buy a small bottle of life spectrum pellets if i come across...anything for my MI...so far, he seems to like the Kent Marine pellets alot, dashing for them everytime i throw in. Maybe cos he was used to that pellets in the LFS. He didn't seem to like Ocean Nurtri F1,2 alot. Ya, after previous painful experience of losing precious fishes cos of adding new non-quarantine fishes (due to 'itchy hands' and laziness), l only buy fishes from fellow reefers and reputable LFS that quarantined their fishes.

Ultraman's journey to a 5 footer.................
Underwater replied to uLtRaMaN's topic in Members Tank & Specs
Wa, really look similiar to yr old 4ft scaping wor...not bad. Also can try the 'two mountains and valley' concept next time when you want to change the scaping, quite nice also for your tank height and size. Pistol shrimp skill? Chim...maybe it's about the skill you have in stacking the LR to create the caves? -

ATI powermodule is good, but very expensive comparing to Hopar or Jebao wor. There are DE lightings too, not bad and not too expensive, and retrofit ones even cheaper. For me personally, i go for the tubes which are more important, especially for corals. Fowlr would be simpler. Bro, i hope you are using NSW for your big tank. If saltmix, i can imagine the amount of DI water to be used. Let us see yr scaping soon with your gigantic rocks! -
Sian liao...just as i restart my marine tank, heard that news on elect charge up 21% from Oct 08!! That's a hell of a jump in price! Average family like mine will be most badly hit. Think i can really forget about LPS liao. Since i got no chiller, i will work on the lightings. 1. Will stick to 3 T5HO tubes, instead of 4 T5HO. And eventually, 2 T5HO tubes. 2. Reduce lighting period for both main and sump tanks. 3. Sell away my freshwater tank, if possible.

5 room HDB for sale with build in tank

This house is 'chio' man...waiting to see the tank... -
l think many decomm cos electricity bill and high maintenance cost also. l was one of them...heehee. You can try leather corals like mine to have a more natural marine feel, should be ok if yr temp is ard 28-29deg.
-
Thanks. Not using chiller cos want to keep in electrical cost down le. l timed the fan to turn earlier than the T5 lights and stop slightly later. Temp range 28-29'C, but sometimes 30'C when the weather is warm. With the frequent water top up, a big sump is important to me, esp last compartment where the return pump is. Your 4 ft sump size is great choice for your new setup. l'm keeping hardy soft corals like leathers, mushies and zoos, so not much of a problem as experienced in my previous tanks. But would be nicer if my temp can constantlly be at 28'C or lower. Think only a chiller can do that liao.

A big tank in the making...nice and neat tank outlook. Think the sump is gonna be big too. Keep the pics coming... -
That's a very nice piece of Cyna. Thought Cyna always red or green. Yours has blue shades.

Hi Bro Earth, Thanks. Bought this tank from another reefer cos of the super high cabinet, big sump and hole drilled for external pump. Now, having some chaeto at the 3rd compartment (top left). So far so good, no sign of algae and diatom yet...(finger crossed). Agreed that MI is tough to keep. l have tried MI twice in my previous tanks, both wasted away. This time found one that is eating pellet greedily at Sealife and hopefully i can keep it for as long as possible...currently eating pellet well and constantly pecking LR.

Bro Solo & Bro Ah Lim - Thanks. Bro Copperband - guess you're right afterall...heehee Bro Fishtalk - Ya, think marine still worth the efforts vis-a-vis freshwater. Now, may not going for LPS cos no intention to have chiller yet and lots of additives -> to keep running cost low. That's why my tank not as colourful as others lo. l'll focus on the fishes, and soft corals can be very nice too. Tank only a month plus, so got to add stuff slowly.

After previous experience, will try very hard to keep bioload low this time to maintain water quality. Definitely less tangs. Probably 2-3 max. Going to buy fishes based on priority (more of 1 and less of 3) : 1. "Must Have" 2. "Good to Have" 3. "No Need to Have". Some of the residents...all from my favourite LFS - Sealife. My favourite pellet eating MI My peaceful flagfin angel Colourful solar wrasse Clown tang, one of my favourites Firefish, a must have for me.

l always call Victor of Irwana (SRC's Sponsor). His handphone is 9225 9393. Very friendly and helpful. They deliver on weekends too. NSW pumped straight into your tank. Cost wise i think depends on location and tank size. For big tanks shd be about two blue notes. Sequence wise, not too sure what's the best way, l would say, probably add sand and liverock first then sea water? Easier to scape without the water i guess...

Mega Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover - DIY!
Underwater replied to SantaMonica's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Thanks for sharing this great info, SantaMonica. Wow, vert tempted to DIY one once i got the time from work. Btw, is there a need to drill holes on the sheet itself or make it rough? -
Fish collected. Thread closed.
-
Much much nicer tank without the messy-look whitish coraline at background now!
-
Hey, why don't scrap off those whitish coraline algae at the back? Quite ugly le. Will make your tank even more chio. Thinking of off loading some tangs to take in different species? Too many tangs of the same kind lah...and they poo alot too!!
-
Setting up a tank and scaping is already quite 'siong'. Taking out and re-setting up is 'double or triple the siongness! Not mentioning the mess in the living rm, pathway to toilet, toilet itself...and the cleaning up thereafter But i think it's worth it yah? More spacious now, can see the scaping and not like a huge pc of LR taking up the entire tank. Fishes should be even more happy now got spaces to swim in and out. l'm sure you'll have a very good feeling of a clean tank with pristine water and no more loads of detrius in yr sandbed. Do update us when the water clears up...
