So many nice wrasses...too bad pic a bit blur, can't see their colors, esp the lineatus. If your algae scrubber is in operation, your NO3 will be kept low. Saw a regal angel, it shd be a risk to your zoas yah, somemore you got purple death? Box fish is nice but I always find them and pufferfish a great threat to corals.

Wow, you have 54 shrimps...and 12 harlequin in one tank!!!! Me first time hearing harlequin eating fish and clam meat, if you succeed in weaning them to eat these, then you are probably the very few who did it. And the good news is you dun have to keep buying sea stars to feed them and risk polluting your water.

Congrats! You are really good. Prob the only one here that i know who successfully breeds various types of marine fishes. More of you here and there will be less demand on wild stock.

Wow, your zoas collection is insane!! And those zoas colors are really stunning. Very beautiful corals you have.

An underwater adventure at Seoul COEX Aquarium
Underwater replied to Harlequinmania's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Wow, nice! Will sure try to make a trip there if i do visit seoul this yearend. Tks for the pics. -
Hmm, why would you want to do that and stress out the corals? Shouldn't be difficult to put them in a small container with some tank water till yr scaping is done.

Aiya, I was much younger then and just started work not long, where got guts to challenge the authority, somemore that guy and his co-workers looked fierce and wanted to see my ic. Now no way i'll let such things happened before my eyes.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. I know how it feels...cos it took me many years to let go mine. True about AVA, many years ago I witnessed a horrified scene near a construction site in Sengkang where there was this bastard AVA guy who dragged a stray mother dog by her neck up the van by force and it screamed like mad that my tears flowed. Then that guy took a black thrashbag and dumped about 4-5 of newborn puppies into it and tied up and bag, I was sure the puppies would die of suffocation. When I told him how could he do that, he asked if it was my dog and wanted to see my IC, I'd no choice then but to shut up. Hope AVA guys are more humane now.

Hybridisation does happen, but not common. Even if fishes reproduce fast, i think the humans deplete the breeding stock even faster. Look at sharks and some types of food fish populations, they are at the blink of extinction soon. Undeniably, our demand for seafood and ornamental fishes do have a great impact on marine fishes. Not surprising that people in these trades will throw out any stats or reports that will threaten their livelihood and pockets. Just hope captive breeding can be extended to many more species. -
With your budget, can even get a new Hailea 500, but no spare to buy corals though. Think price diff not a lot. IMO, always good to get a one-step oversize chiller and also in case you upgrade to a 4 ft, but still up to you. Personal preference. Hailea is quite good, and it comes with a air filter front screen like our aircon too, think Artica doesn't have. But i think their built-in thermostat is not very accurate, need adjustment which can be done using the botton menu, but i will always suggest to get an external temp sensor which will save you elect bills and less heat output as the the chiller will kick in much less often.

No, yours is ok. Do a search on google first. i should be damp when new. When i got mine from petmart, the bag was damp too. "Chemi-Pure comes already packed in pure polyester filter bags in sealed plastic bottles which are termed one unit each also available in ½ units of 50oz. One unit is recommended for up to 40 gallons of water and which remains completely active for 4 to 6 months with no regeneration or cleaning required. We recommend that, in cases of heavy bio-load, that each unit of Chemi-Pure be replaced within 3 to 4 month period. Each bag of Chemi-Pure is simply removed from the plastic bottle and installed directly in your filter. It is pre-moistened and should be rinsed prior to use." http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem.aspx? category=Boyd_Chemi_pure_Carbon_Replacements_Resin_Chemical_Filter_Media&vendor=Boyd_Enterprises&idProduct=BE1113&IdCategory=FIFMCHRM&tab=1

Cynaide-caught fishes suffered the worst fate and I'm not in favour of such practice, esp in Philippines and Indo. Looks like the divers in vanautu practice a more humane method of catching. But i'm more worried and concerned that our marine hobby will totally deplete the popular species in the ocean one day since there is not much govt regulations in those countries and fishermen were paid so lowly by the middlemen. -

My reaction is different. I felt guilty being part responsible to deplete the fish/coral stock in those pacific countries. -
Glad that you guys left the shell of eggs alone and not trying to hatch and breed them at home. This is the only way for the species to populate themselves there in the wild. Who knows, that shell of eggs could also be the only batch of eggs in that area.
-
Agreed too. Endangered sea turtle shd be in the ocean...but sad it is, perhaps it shd be glad to be alive in that country instead of being in a restaurant. Most wild animals ended up in that country will not have much good life unless they are First Grade protected species.

Very stunning SPS!! The colors are amazing. 100% love this tank.
-
I must say cauliflowers are some of the prettiest corals and colours are stunning. A real pity that they can't be kept alive for long. I'm trying out cauliflowers in my high organic nutrient tank and see if it works w alternate days of dosing phyto. If not, got to forgo these corals indefinitely.

Likely to be the other clown.

Hope this log also serves as a stern reminder that these two species are really hard to keep despite delicate and quality care, and reefers better think twice of buying them, even though you have super deep pockets. It's lives we are talking about. Let's stop supporting their collections and leave them alone in the wild until better collection and transportation method are found. There are many other nice and hardy dwarf angels for you to choose from. That's part of responsible reefing too.

Came back from Aqua Marin today: (Bali Shipment) - Not much fishes though Banggai Cardinal Dispar anthias Moorish Idol Bannerfish Small clownfish Blue tangs Yellow clown goby Green chromis Various common soft corals - sponges, califlowers, colt, leathers, etc Bali Zoos RBTA GBTA Acans Favias Mushies -
Finding feeding banggai is easy, but finding one that eats pellets is tough. Often they seem to accept mysis only. Anyone has idea where to find pellets eating banggai or they just need more training?

what if I did not refrigerate my Aquapharm Seaplankton ?
Underwater replied to Emmanuel's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Not sure why but i realised my tank glass always get brown algae bloom within a day after using it, prob very high in nutrients. Do you guys encounter that? I have less problem with Marine Snow. -
Quite true, LFS definitely depends on NSW, then their livestock how? Another issue would be the seafood that we eat. Besides the fishes, the high risks one shd be the crabs, prawns, clams, mussels, etc. Not sure they're safe to eat and the thought of harmful chemicals getting into my stomach (causing cancer?) freaks me out.
