  1. i use this method...a normal clinical springe and insert a white plastic stick (with hollow centre) used for holding children's balloon. Then simply squirting at each sun's head. Should be very quite fast.
  2. Your suns are not opening. I feed my suns individually with frozen / freezed dried cyclopeeze every other day and they will open up nicely once they sense food. Really got to target feed them, if not, they will start to recline and eventually not opening up at all.
  3. Simple, just look under General Reefkeeping, SantaMonica's thread on DIY powerful phosphate and nitrate remover. Many diy projects and feedback from reefers ard the world for your reference.
  4. Best is to avoid damsels. You will have problems adding new fishes ard that size later on.
  5. One lessson learn here is...listen to the bros here who are willling to spend time replying to your thread. Don't buy any anthias cos they require regular feedings to remain healthy. Some like purple queen is almost impossible for most of us. I got a feeling that you may soon buy other difficult (though may be affordable) fishes not knowing their extremely low chances of survival in our tanks, especially to newbies like yourself. Common fishes to avoid: - Cleaner wrasse - Moorish idol - Copperband butterfly (avoid butterfly unless you know their feeding habits as some are obligate coral eaters) - Harleqiun filefish - Algae Blenny - Mandarin fish - Bi-color angelfish - Anthias (except barlett, blue eye & dispar)
  6. All my previous tank inhabitants were wiped out when an anemone got minced by my wavemaker. When I came back from work, it's too late and all fishes perished cos of ammonia toxic poisoning. Sad way to end a day. Whenever I'm overseas, will ask my maid to check the anemone location on a daily basis. They can be pretty unpredictable.
  7. Hmmm...if the nudi diet is zoas and there's no more zoas left in your DT, shdn't these pests gonna die of starvation? So technically, no need to add any chemical to your DT?
  8. Bro, may i know if these items are from reborn recent sales?
  9. It's difficult to advise unless you tell us more info about yr tank set up and water parameters? How long are the tubeworms in yr tank? You add copper in yr fowlr or any fish that nips on them?
  10. U mean yr plants can survive using saltwater? Not a very good idea.
  11. Another fish that reefers should always avoid, a very difficult fish to keep in captivity.
  12. If you want to have a peace of mind that your livestock won't get poisoned, forget about getting one. IMO, benefits of it cleaning the sandbed doesn't outweigh the precious lives of your livestock, as well as the amount of money and time that you spent in this hobby. Further, there are other alternatives as suggested.
  13. I would say, sadly, most fishes come from Indonesia and Philippines where they are usually caught using cyanide which is the easiest way to catch. I doubt these fishermen know anything about the effect of cyanide on these fishes and damages done to their own reef environment, and the middlemen supplier prob don't care much. The difference is probably how much the fishes got it within their bodies. Fishes caught further down the cyanide source may be spared. The rest may look ok now but many may not feed and would get thinner each day and/or fall prey to parasites/diseases. Even those that are eating would get thinner each day too. So, really depends on luck. I understand that fishes from the caribbean, red sea, hawaii and australian shipments are less likely to be cyanide caught.
  14. Fish package sold. Tks all for interest.
  15. Hoping to sell the below fishes (all confirmed eating pellets and with me at least 6 mths) as a package to reduce bioload. Yellow tang - about 4 inches Swallowtail angel - about 2 inches Red fairy wrasse - common type Tomato clownfish - small Selling for $30 to quick sale. Collection at Hougang central. Free to view and decide.
  16. Using mh without chiller is taking a big risk. Somemore you are keeping sps. Careful on the cucumbers going near wavemakers and some of yr non-reef safe shrimps.
  17. Is your lights enough for a SPS tank? Time to add liverock and arrange the SPS and other corals. Now a bit like a sales tank in LFS leh.
  18. For 2nd hand tank and equipment, you can easily check their resale price in passer malam to see whether if an item has been overpriced, of course, condition of the tank or equipment counts. I bought four 2nd tanks before and all no prob, best from bros who are active here with good reputation. Check the condition and assess yourself and sometimes really have to go by trust and integrity of the seller.
  19. Avoid copperband unless you are willing to feed frozen food to this fish and ensure there's enough food for it to eat cos it's a very slow eater. Sure loose out to tangs, angels and wrasses. Another thing is not 100% will eat aitapsia.
