help save my corals!
Underwater replied to helpthycorals's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
hmm, you're babysitting and not in this hobby? Then, may be difficult to know the problems. Ask the owner to call his reefer friends to help host the livestock or possible to ask the fish farm to help take care and pay some $$ till the owner claims them back? -
help save my corals!
Underwater replied to helpthycorals's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
Briefly wat happen to the main tank? Tank or water problem? Some of us may offer quick suggestions if we know of previous similar situation. If there's air pump in the water, the fishes shdn't be coming up to grap for air then...hmm, cld it be the water parameters in the pail? You can get natural sea water delivered to you if you have no need to mix salt w water. -
You can find those nori in any NTUC supermarket or chinese medical shop. Abt $1 per pack. Must be those unseasoned ones.
-
No need to boil. Can either let them eat fresh, or you may also freeze it and defroze before feeding.
-
Why not sis? You can add more LRs as suggested as they formed an important part of the biological filteration, yrs a 4 ft mah. Also, instead of dead or uncured LRs, you can choose those cured LRs offered by those nice reefers here who decomm, upgrade or having excess LRs. Will speed up the process too.

if pH too low you'll need to buffer up and you need to increase SG if too low cos shrimps cannot take too low a SG level unlike fishes.
-
l'm using that also but i tied it to a small LR to make it look a little more natural. But i started out using normal market dried seaweed (those unseasoned type). Dun worry, the tangs shd be eating it soon, perhaps it's their first time seeing the foreign clip which is unfamiliar. Once one tang starts, the rest will follow.
-
For shrimps, you'll need to acclimate properly and release them slowly. Try not to dump in straight away to the bottom of the tank. For me, l'll usually release them at the highest LR area and let them crawl down to the bottom. You mentioned tt the rest are ok, are they shrimps as well? If not, it may also be due to one of your water parameters. Check your SG, pH...

Wow, you have a very tame angel tt didn't touch yr prata and other meaty corals...

Hi AT, Sis has actually posted her tank pics (before the crash) in the FOWLR thread. http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=59188 Hi Sis, Maybe you can post up new pics there and l'm sure reefers here will be more then willing to help you out.

-
Bro, How long did you on the lights for yr refugium tank? 24 hrs? My macro algae kept going asexual and died off till l dare not buy anymore macroalgae. Now only using chaeto.

Tentatively reserved for bro axxxxxx. Will inform the next in line if not collected. Thanks for the interest.

Finally saw yr PBT in action in the video clip...very fat & healthy. You got a very nice feeding flamehawk too!! Are those 2 PQ? They seem to be feeding crazily already. Always thought PQ are very difficult to get them to feed and most didn't make it. Any secrets? Always a great feeling after a day's work & stress by seeing our fishes happily feeding...

What to feed mandrinfish?
Underwater replied to the oracle's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
if artic pods or live brine shrimp also cannot get it to feed or simply too many competing fishes for the food, and if you have a sump tank, put it in there as there's a higher chance of more copepods there and no competition for fd instead of seeing it dying of hunger in the main tank. -

Hey bro Nitro, l really like this thread. For me: Earth> A really honest & humble guy and even gave me his namecard to call if l have problems using the ozoniser l bought from him. Rx Gan>Besides sending to me his reef fd, he always gives me tips on reefing. Copperband>Always giving me free stuff (chaeto, corals) & tips on reefing. Bloodlamb>Only bought few corals, ended up he gave me other free corals.

First & foremost, hope no offence to anyone. IMO, the fittest may survive but not necessary the weakest should perish. Sounds like the business world. The difference between a human and an animal is we have a heart to help those in need. In our society, didn't we show compassion and empathy to the weakest of the lot and try our best to help them in anyway we can? That's why we have CASE to blacklist and label those bad retailers who are all out to con people. Are we saying that those pple who were conned deserved it and there's no need for CASE to take actions/ blacklist those retailers? Moreover, this is only a hobby site for likeminded reefers and with web sponsors supporting it. It's not as if we are all in here doing business. Shdn't this hobby be one that every reefer helps one another? Yes, it's indeed paramount to read & understand more before dealing. No doubts. But why shd we punish the weak or those being cheated or newbies and said they shd deserve the consequences of being cheated for not reading enough or have enough knowledge. We cannot know everything anything especially with this hobby. Just my 2cts.

My planning of livestock and equipments.
Underwater replied to angelfishlover's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Having a chiller has many benefits such as stable temp, lesser evaporation and having the low temp u want, as compared to a fan. But it is not a must to have chiller as i look at yr list, except for anemone which i've no experience. If you're on a tight budget, you can start up without a chiller and use a fan instead. Many of us also reef without chiller and using fan instead. Can always upgrade later if you want. There shldn't be any salt residue on yr fan unless salt water splashes onto it (which shd be unlikely) and evaporated. As tank water evaporates, the salt remains in the tank water, that's why we only add fresh water to top up, not topping up with salt water. Cheers... -
Wow...very nice tank and natural looking scaping!! Love yr clown tang especially...swee!
-
Some of our sponsors here also sell tanks. Another way is to buy 2nd hand tanks from reefers here who decomm or upgrade lor.
-
Or take to Serangoon MRT and a 5 mins slow walk down, heading towards potong pasir. Alternatively, take any bus heading that direction at the bus stop outside MRT exit (one of the exits, can't remember the alphabet) and dropped at the 2nd bus stop.

If l'm not wrong, the seniors can correct me, doc fish (cleaner wrasse) does NOT eat white spots/ich at all but another kind of parasites. If fact, they themselves will get white spots on their bodies and die of that too. The white spots that disappeared from yr fishes are highly unlikely 'cos of the doc fish eating them. It may be a case that the white spots dropped off to develop into the next stage (there is life cycle diagram in one of the threads), or those could be just stress spots on yr fishes. As some bros have mentioned, doc fish's survival rate is extremely low in captivity cos of their diet. Though some reefers have managed to keep them alive, many others don't. So, it's better to leave them in the ocean to clean up the fishes there as they serve a critical role in their natural environment than in our tanks with such a low survival rate.
