The most evil marine pests caught
Underwater replied to Underwater's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
These pests are definitely from the liverocks I bought from the farm. Prob over 50 hiding in there. Each about 3mm to 10mm in length. I dip the rocks in high salinity, but I think I was too impatient and fearing the lost of the purple coralline, I took out the rocks from the dip within 5 mins and these pests probably survived. My greatest mistake for not dipping the liverocks longer or they somehow can survive in high salinity dip. And they move quite fast. Thanks bro for the article. Maybe the 'sacrificial' fish method would help. -
The most evil marine pests caught
Underwater replied to Underwater's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
Thanks for the idea. I'll try that out, maybe I'll put a small kunning fish from ntuc since these pests love to hunt for fishes blood. The first pic above showed the amount of blood it sucked from my firefish, and unfortunately, the fish didn't make it till this evening after I removed that bugger from its body. : ( I really hate these Isopods. -
Guys, I thought apitasa was dreadful but these blood-sucking isopod pests are probably one of my worst nightmare, never encountered before. They will come out at night after tank nights are off, attached to the fish, and start sucking the host blood till next day. I've lost a few firefishes and blennies but was too late when I remove the Isopods from their bodies. Some are smart enough to drop off before you manage to catch the fish. The only way now for me to catch them is when the tank nights are off and using the torchlight when they are out hunting. Some ended up trapped in the filter wool at the sump. Killed 20 and I believe many still lurk around the DT. Anyone has good ideas to eradicate them to share? Can't use any wrasses cos these pests are only out when all the fishes are sleeping. Sigh....

Personally, I would recommend jebao dc6000, only 40 watts and reasonable price. Flowrate is adjustable from I think 1800 l/hr to 6000 l/hr via its 6 modes controller. There is also a feed mode that temp off the pump for 10 mins before auto resuming. I just changed from eheim 1260 (2400 l/hr) which is already 65 watts! I'm using mode 3 for jebao and it's strong enough for my tank already. There is a review: http://www.thesaltybox.com/forum/equipment-reviews/141889-jebao-dc-6000-return-pump.html Mode and watts consumption: 1 - 14 watts 2 - 19 watts 3 - 25 watts 4 - 32 watts 5 - 39 watts 6 - 51 watts If you are those that must buy German made one, then ehiem is a good option.

Can also try Mr Neo at 9452 6388. Previously I could not get a slot on weekends with Sgbro and Mr Neo did it for me. They specialize in fish tank moving and set up.

Lightings affecting Passer and Queen Angel
Underwater replied to Uptempo's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Can share why rescaping of liverocks will cause ammonia and outbreak of ich? I don't quite get it. -
My bad then. He's referring to genus and not the specific species which is 3 digit sum.
-
$1xx for a benny is cheap to you but costly to many of us. Don't think every tank shd have one unless you're referring to pictus that cost $1x.

Mr Salty's marine tank finally (4 x 2 x 2)
Underwater replied to MrSalty's topic in Members Tank & Specs
Nice scaping. And I just changed to the same pump as yours - jebao dc6000. Excellent pump and can choose different flow rate w different power watts. Even max at 6000 l/hr the consumption is only 40 watts! -
It could really be the bad NSW batch that you bought then. Did you buy from the pre-packed bags?

Tank project 5ft,2.5,2 - Newbie @ punggol 21
Underwater replied to blackcell's topic in Members Tank & Specs
If you have decided to use a 1264, pls use another pump for your chiller and just let 1264 do the sole job for yr big tank; I would not recommend T-off for other purposes like chiller. Also, different chillers need different flow rates of the feeder pump to work efficiently. -

Contrary to the rest, I suggest just try out the 1264 first. IMO, i think it is enough. -
New life spectrum, definitely. My regal angel refuses diff brand of pellets except NLS.

I've a 3 inch blue tang to give away. Pellet eating. Was given by previous owner who decomm but I found it too big for my small tank. Has very small HLLE but negligible. Collection at Hougang Central. PM yr contact and current tank size pls. Thanks.

I find it very strange that your nitrate can be so high despite such huge water change and with super low livestock - 1 fish? I could only narrow down to: 1. Something big is dying (corals, esp anemone) and polluting your tank (unlikely to be the LR since it's already two months) 2. NSW that you bought is the source of problem (but i doubt so) 3. Faulty testkit (but Salifret is known for accuaracy unless it's expired) I know it's frustrating but try to find out the source and get rid of the root problem first, then talk about other methods later like dosing sugar/volka and using all those biopellets now which will not solve the bigger problem if nitrate is continuously rising. How about posting some tank and sump pics and see other reefers can help to locate the source.

Sorry guys, i've received a lot of PMs. For fairness, I give it to the first reefer who PM me. If he didn't take, I'll inform the next in line. Thanks for your interest. Happy reefing.

anyone got idea how to trap yellow tang
Underwater replied to dryDiver's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Tang is the easiest to catch. Lights off in the evening to give total darkness, then after an hour or so after the fish has 'slept', turn on all the lights, the tang will become blur and swim out from the liferock. Scoop it up easily. Work for me for catching tangs, angels, and some wrasses. -
