  1. I think it has nothing to do with the auto feeder, it's yr pellets. Did you add in after taking the pellets (moist) out from the fridge? If so, you need to dry the pellets first, or just add pellets from newly opened bottle.
  2. We always go international buffet for oysters, maybe the restaurants dun mind us packing back the empty shells after eating, thus helping them to clear and lighten their bins, free wor.
  3. Hmm, still waiting for the pics and reviews....
  4. Bro, they can spread really fast. My tank also has this problem, infested by these tiny tubeworms. It started when a few got into the main tank from my sump, then they spread like wildfire! In my sump, they have infested every part of the liverocks that i can't use the LR for display anymore.
  5. A few of them are quite pretty actually. I think it's the horrified make-up and lousy photo shots. Maybe this year the organiser scared liao and paid too much attention on brains??? Well, or perhaps we either don't have many gals that have both looks and brains here, or many quality ones just shun such events.
  6. I preferred superglue gel, bought one from 3M i think, but very costly and prob just one squeeze on the tube and you'll finish it, that's how little it contains. Epoxy is kind of messy to use and quite difficult to get it stick to the LR underwater, problematic if i need to fix it to a big LR that i can remove unless i want to rescape the tank. Small pcs are still ok as i can do out outside the tank.
  7. My 422 is using 1262 which i find not enough already. Recommended flow is +/- 10 times of yr tank capacity. I've since added another abt 2500 l/hr flow into the main tank from my chiller.
  8. Is this a public aquarium? If not, then you've posted on the wrong section. Shd be under Kopi-tiam. And there're no pics for us to appreciate also.
  9. It could be due to anything as highlighted, of course, including the way the LFS treated their fishes. You can see fishes in some LFS that really do not look well and the owners do not care much. A year ago I happened to pass by a LFS and was horrified to see how marine fishes were cramped into several small tanks (as if they are freshwater fishes) in Yishun. And then, there are others that never bother to feed them. So, best to avoid all these LFS. So far, i think Sealife is one of the few that treated their fishes with some respect, including cheaper ones like clownfishes and chromis. I know AVA does grade these LFS based on their practices, just like NEA grading hawker stalls, but i seldom see the display on their shop though.
  10. If you like lionfishes, try to get those that are already trained to feed on dried shrimps/krills. Easier to feed them and better for your pockets too.
  11. Definitely not the LFS as they can't be responsible for poor fish health in our tanks as fish are living things lor. Many other possibilities for poor health due to stress from catching methods, holding tanks, transportation, feeding, etc. Since your tank only has lionfish, perhaps some medication will work?? I'm not sure. But I think feeding freshwater shrimps may not be a good option as this is not their natural diet. Tried luring them to eat market prawns or freezed dried krills/shrimps? And i think you do not need such a cold temp for lionfish, 26 degrees is a bit too cold. 28 would be fine IMO.
  12. Can try regular feeding of phytoplankton and prob needs a high nutrient tank. Anyway, it's a coral that will definitely waste away in our tanks. Nice to see and cheap to buy, but extremely difficult to keep in our tanks. Just avoid buying this coral next round.
  13. Since the aim of this thread is on pic of angel tanks, any new pics to share?
  14. The misconception is that cleaner wrasses eat white spots...the fact is that they don't. They get white spots themselves.
  15. It's those cable plastic casing that can be bought at Ikea, but you will prob need a lot of those to cover the pipes though. Something like a casing that we put all those daggling wires together to look neat. Got a pic.
  16. I used to try different methods such as external return pump, reduce lighting hours during the day, reduce number of lights, use fan, opening up more windows when not at home, etc and cos of high ambient temp these days, temp still high at 30 degree celcius. Fish and corals suffered. In the end, got a chiller and that solved the problems and worries. The only thing to bear with is higher electrical bills and heat generated into the living room...but i think in the end, it's still worth it to get a chiller for the health of the tank inhabitants.
  17. My favourite is Ehiem (trust worthy) but the others seem to be more competitive in terms of watt used, esp Rio. A few good pumps to compare (at 0 head loss): Ehiem 1262 - 3400 l/h - 80w Ehiem 1264 - 4500 l/h - 100w AB 3000 - 3000 l/h - 45w AB 5000 - 5000 l/h - 75w Rio HF12 - 3000 l/h - 35w Rio HF14 - 3500 l/h - 40w Rio HF17 - 4500 l/h - 45w Rio HF20 - 5400 l/h - 50w
  18. Personally i thought marine shrimps are many times nicer and hardier than those CRS. CRS needs even cooler waters than marine shrimps also. Talk about willingness to spend lots of money on CRS, in marine, there are also many reefers who are willing to spend quite a bit to buy rare fishes, some even with very low survival rates. When it dies, all the money spent also goes with it. It's a matter of choice and how deep the pockets. Coming back to CB, I don't mind spending a little more to buy cos the livestock will be more stable and CB also help to reduce the demand on wild caught specimens, living them time to reproduce and populate. Actually looking at the rate and quantity of livestock we get every week in shipments at the farms, I wonder how long can this scene last. Won't we deplete the stock in the ocean one day if they are caught indiscriminately? I once saw the shipment of very tiny blue tangs(poor survival rate if of such size) in a LFS and most of them were either struggling to survive or already died on the tank bottom.
  19. Wow, must be a lot of sweat on the piping work. Bro, is 1000l/hr enough for your chiller size? As for the hose and piping, you can use those computer black (or white) wiring cable covers to conceal them if you want. I use those to conceal my green ehiem hose which looked out of place in my living room.
  20. I have that too in my tank, a silk worm living in a very hard cone shell. The web always irritates my zoas and they'll close up upon contact with the web. Best to remove it before it breeds in the tank.
  21. Yes, as suggested by bros here, get the external thermostat, even those with other chiller brands will go for external thermostat. You won't go wrong as it measures tank temp more accurately since the sensor is now in yr tank. You will notice that your chiller won't kick in and out so often. Before i got my external thermostat, my chiller will kick in every 2-3 hours. Now, it has delayed to 4-5 hours. Also note that the hailea chiller thermostat itself may read about 1 to 1.5 degrees less than the main tank. You can calibrate it by pressing and holding the up and down buttons. For external thermostat, you can even select temp in the decimals...eg. stop at 27.3 and kick in at 28.7. You can either DIY yourself (if you know how) or buy a set from those companies that service chillers, shd be less than $200. I will pm you the contact where i bought my set for your ref.
  22. You will definitely need a stronger pump, considering head loss. A 3,000 l/hr pump would be ideal. I think your thermostat is faulty.
  23. i would fully agree also, if tank temp is likely to go beyond 30oC during chiller problem, then a second controller to activate fan and disconnect lights when temp reaches beyond 30oC would seem important, esp when on holidays or even at work. But then must find a right temp (maybe 29oC?) when to disconnect the fan and activate the lights, if not the fan may run non-stop (dry out the return compartment) and lights never be activated (for corals) if that set temp cannot be reached, crucial when on long holidays.
  24. Need to catch up with you soon to learn some tips abt wrasses liao. Maybe during office hrs liao..sorry wasn't able to join you in those farm visits, my timings always very jialat.
