simple calculation Assuming 1)The LED you have gotten has to be Fwd Biased at 1.4Vdc 2) Continuous Fwd Current - 20mA (Typical) 3) You are puting 3 LED in series. 4) AC/DC adaptor rating at max 12 Vdc (500mA) ----- These adaptors u can get easily at less then 10 bucks. Soln ------ Vin 12Vdc- 3*1.4 Vdc = 7.8Vdc Contiuous Fwd Current - 20ma Therefore to calculate for a current limiting Resistor V=IR R=V/I = 7.8/0.02 = 390 Ohms However, I think you can use any resistor value between 350 ~ 450 ohms, probably wouldnt make much difference since this is a relatively simple DIY. ** The Resistor shld be placed in series with the 3 LEDs. rgds Silver

hi ya freewill (and All) would it be possible to share the dimensions of your IOS , cuz I'm getting a 2ft built wif an IOS which incoperates both the return and the flow down to the sump. However, the dimensions that were given to me for the sump dictates that i partition 30% of the already small 2ft tank off for the IOS..... ps: If possible, could ya share the size of ur bulkhead too? thanks in adv Silver

hi atreef , thanks =) i couldnt use urs cuz it was too big... sorryz man, and thanks for the contact. Thanks for the Info- Just Me merry X`mas!! Hi ho Silver!

As the title, Need contacts for reputable (preferably not too expensive) glass tank maker for sump and perhaps main tank . thanks silver

The tubby is not a DIY product. But a product designed and engineered by our fellow reefer for fellow reefers whom may not be familiar with "simple" circuitry that would save us the trouble and hassle of toping up the evapourated water in our precious treasure box of marine life. "simple" circuitry equates to amateurish adventures in eletrical designs. Which, in turn results in probably cheap and workable solutions in the arena of topping up water effortlessly. HOWEVER, "simple" circuitry also results in Critical safety issues that would not have been discovered without strong groundings in electrical fundamentals. Are you gonna save 40 bucks today by using cheap and failable components from Sim Lim tower that doesnt come with decents specifications, and cause 240V to leak into ur marine tank tommorrow? no, killing ur corals and fishes may not be the ur biggest loss. What if you or ur loved ones places his/her hands into the water? I am not against the DIY way of implementing Electrical devices. But i am For the reefer Cookiemunster who has provided a SAFE solution for pple whom may not be from an electrical engineering background or do not want to waste time/effort in building a DIY auto water topup system that may not/ May not work out well. Just wanna highlight the importance of safety and applaud the efforts of cookiemunster And lastly, IF u Must DIY ur Own auto Water-top up system, at least, pass ur schematics to Cookie. I'm sure he'd be more then happy to verify the flaws that u might have missed.

hi all, Actually i'm probably not gonna use Ikea shelves cuz i've tried once about a year ago and it didn't look very stable. Am using WI stand now but will be movin in a mth and would like to get a cabinet to incorperate a slump. The WI Stand i have has rusted so badly that i fear a catastrophic event impending. Thanks Jhansolo, tanggy, for ur insights too.

Hammer Tentacles Sticking out as long as 4 - 5"
silver2578 replied to kschew1498's topic in General Reefkeeping_
had the same problem awhile back. try changing the waterflow (direction/flow rate) ard the hammer. It worked for me. -
Excerps from an exchange with Tigershark. think its excellent advise for those out there whom might still wanna use ikea shelves. I know i'm probably gonna get a 2nd hand cabinet. many thanks to tigershark

hey are ya using ikea shelvings to support the tank? sorry for hijackin the tread high ho silver
-
thanks guys, i was thinking of buying a cabinet from ikea or doing alittle DIY using some wood planks from a old ikea shelf i bought. hmm, but then again, i dont trust my own handicraft =) thanks for the info regards Silver

hi all, I've a question regarding Wooden cabinets supporting Marine fish tanks, in particular a 2ft one. Can i buy these cabinets off the shelves from say ikea? whats the pre requisite for such cabinets? I hope I'm postin in the right forum. Thanks regards Silver
-
hi all, anyone letting go a 2ft cabinet ? Or any good cabinet makers ard ? thanks silver
-
hi all, sorry to hijack,, but was wondering where i can get this Cyclop-eeze other then from aqua nature? ps: no offence to anyone from aqua nature. thanks silver

hiya all, thanks for the replys, though i might be slow in replying. My tank is close to 7 months old now. And the mandarin has been ard for abt 3 months or so. I have thought abt adding a refugium but i cant do it at this point of time, perhaps another 2 months down the line. however, it is my humble opinion that my mandarin might not last that long, though it still seem energtic moving ard and such, I'm devastated by how thin it looks...... I'm prepared to give it away to any one who has the ability to sustain him/her. Thats if I'm still not able to find appropriate food for it in the next 2 days. Any reefers that has the space and more importantly, the ability to sustain a mandarin, pls PM me. Thank you all. regards Silver
-
hi all, I've had a mandarin for abt 3 months plus. Somehow, its seems to be getting thinner by the day. This is severly worrying as its an amazingly graceful marine fish that i do not wanna lose. Any advise on any kinda food that it might take? my tank may have ran out of pods for it cuz i dun have any plants. And also it simply ignores frozen brine shrimp. Furthermore, it doesnt touch live brine shrimp nor BBS. Thanks In Desperation Silver

haha cookie, then at least u've been quoted ridiculous prices having seen beautiful specimens I, however, have only seen anenomes that were ridiculously large and dying .
-
thanks AT, cookie for the reply. hmm, i live in the central region, and i'm more familiar with SL, PR, ReB$#n, T95... looks like i really have to make a trip down to CF. been lookin ard, hopin to find a specimen w./o havin to travel so far...

thanks Bwilly

Hi all, as above, which LFS has wide selections anemones? foreword 1) yes i know the requirements 2) yes I think i am able to sustain its growth with current tank setup and conditions thanks guys in advance

PB has made clear afew issues to me. From a newbie point of view, I do applaud his efforts and commitment in maintaining legislation concerning CITES cleared corals. To be honest, I did buy a galaxy coral from DAY, way before this whole episode of suspected Illegal havesting of corals. I would like to point out that DAY is quite a decent chap, in the my few mins of conversation with him. Thus, lets not be judgemental nor hasty in branding someone as being guilty of scavenging the seas for a quick buck. I am an avid lover of the Sea and I believe anyone who goes through the troubles of maintaining a marine tank shares the same passion. I am all for doing my part to conserve marine life, and I hope that my buying minute amounts of CITES cleared corals justifies my selfish needs to bring alittle bit of the sea to my pigeon hole. Having said such, how then would i know which marine shops upholds the integrity of selling only CITES cleared corals. Its an honest question with no pun intended. Lastly, I've not been to PR. But now i will. Thats if I'm not being banned

my hammer 1 week later - moderate water flow - added Reef Advantage Calcium - Raises Calcium & maintains Magnesium + strontium (Dunno if it really helps but I see an increase in growth in all my corals - including mushrooms + leather finger ---dun ask me why) - baby brine shrimp feeding once a week
