Water parameters tested again, just tested ammonia and nitrite: Ammonia: 4mg/litre Nitrite: 0.25mg/litre Now that ammonia has reached lethal levels, its probably time to introduce livestock, we'll probably start with TANGS . just kidding.

Last shot. Sorry abit blur for the 1st 2 shots can't see very clearly Will try to get better shots of it. At 1st i thought it was a pistol shrimp but on closer observation it is a mantis shrimp.

GO back! Afterall i guess if she wanted to harm you would have harm you long ago. MAybe can ask do they have marine tanks in afterlife
-
Diatoms, as far as i know won't harm fishes, it'll make the tank look unsightly. Not sure about corals though.

No expert on clowns, so i can't really comment on the losing territory part, as in whether it is a factor in the fishe's death. Any other observations? Like heavy breathing or lethargic prior to its death. Looks like stress and not acclimatizing properly probably played a part in the fishe's death.

I think what reddevils is talking about is the DSB maturing, allowing it to breakdown nitrates as well not talking about the tank maturing. Anyway, i don't see why such a setup won't work so long as you keep the bioload low.

PR = Paradiz Reef if i'm not wrong.

I suppose you have already cycled the tank. Stress might have been a factor. Did you remember to acclimatize properly as well?

need help?need someone to guide me abt my problem?

So nitrite is 0 or not? You have to be very sure of this. Don't giveup just yet. Anyway, lemme try to help you out. 1) Nitrates should not drop naturally unless you have a functioning DSB/Plenum/Denitrator/Macroalgae refugium or any other NNR etc. Water change is probably the more effective method of controling nitrates if you don't have any NNR. 2) Has foam been spilling out previously? Did you adjust the skimmer recently? I think the production of so much foam is due to all the wastes in the water. -
Yeah kalk does. Think it reacts with phosphates to form calcium phosphates which can be skimmed out of the system. I dunno what is wrong, but could it be an overdose of trace elements? However, i ever read an article saying that Tangs colour can fade due to a meaty diet, so should try to include more vege. YzF: Kalkwasser is a powder that is added to top-up water and dripped into the tank slowly. But you should get a calcium and kH testkit before doing so, you can end up with very high calcium and kH if you keep dripping blindly w/o knowing the tank's consumption.

Sump Questions - Only Bio Balls n Filter Media
Kalib replied to hamannbmw's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
A DSB's efficiency is dependant on its surface area. So, by having a DSB in the sump, that does not mean that you don't need a DSB in the maintank. The DSB in the sump will not be able to carry out dentrification as effectively as a DSB in the maintank. This is because its not possible for you to be able to get a DSB that will be as big as your maintank in your sump. You still need to leave space for the return pump and other filter media. -
I see. On closer observation i think i just saw a fish in 1 of the pics, think its an Anthias.

Nice landscape, gives some kind of valley effect with the 2 slopes created by the LR. Is it just me or you really don't have any fish in your tank?

Sump Questions - Only Bio Balls n Filter Media

An alternative if space allows, is to get a hang-on refugium. Think Ian has such a product, thought i saw it on his website. -
Sump Questions - Only Bio Balls n Filter Media
Kalib replied to hamannbmw's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I think this is quite an individual thing. A good, powerful skimmer does help to reduce nutrients in the water so i guess thats why a protein skimmer is used in combination with the filter wool and bioballs. But like what the 2 posts earlier have mentioned, such a setup should be ok for FOWLR. For reef, the bioballs might produce excessive nitrates and the skimmer might not be good enough to control nutrients in the water depending on how much fish/invert is in the tank. IMO by having a refugium/DSB/LR in the sump is just to aid in nutrient export which is quite important for reef tanks. For FOWLR, i think it doesn't matter if you choose to have a DSB,Refugium or LR in the sump or not. Just some thoughts. -
Maybe i made a mistake in IDing. Anyway, too small for me to have a 100% ID.

Give it a few more days and observe, it may have gone into hiding. They hide after they moult. If still nothing, then chances are its dead. Cleaner shrimps should usually be found in the open and easily spotted rather than hiding.

Yeah... I think its because i bought the LRs the moment they arrived at the LFS, no chance for the rocks to even cure at the LFS.
