It really depends on what you want...external overflow..requires overflow boxes which can be DIY or bought... IOS or internal overflow system....Is safer than that of a external especially in terms of crisis...e.g return pump stop. The disadvantage of A IOS is that it requires a hole in the tank which can be only drilled one time. Wrong size...kiss your tank goodbye unless you smart enuf.... Overflow boxes for EOS requires siphoning action (process whereby the water from the tank flows into U tubes into the overflow box automaticaly. If the process stops your return is gonna run dry My 2 cents
