  1. its the zoo expelling its zooxanthellae happens under stress of when you change the lighting
  2. make sure you keep up the calcium level in the water as they need that to build their shell
  3. have about 20 polyps from this colony up for trade some attached to substrate, some not looking for small frags of other zoas / mushrooms / lps pm me! thanks

  5. okay i tried super glueing 5 mushrooms yesterday and placed them in a spot w/ not much water movement. but this morning they all detached.... i'm trying another method now, similar to netting / rubber banding. but i'm quite lazy to handle each mushroom individually. so lets see if this works and if it does, i'll post it up soon. =)
  6. u just gave me another idea! if someone can provide me the photos of the LFS, i can put it up on the map. i.e. when people click on the marker, it will show the address, tel and a photo of the LFS
  7. good spot. i've only been there once. i've updated the location, not too sure if it is nearer to the bradell side or the bartley road side. help me check and if its wrong i'll update it again. =)
  8. thanks for the recomendation, i did just that. actually since my last posting, i've done it many times. coral skeletons are much more fragile than i've exected. actually all live rocks are quite brittle. just a light knock with the chisel and it'll break apart. so definitely no need for dremel... cause the cheapest dremel will set you back a few hundred $$. only useful thing i can think of for a dremel, in terms of fragging is to cut up a plate coral. i dun think they can survive a chisel / hammer action. [OT] anyone tried fragging a plate with chisel / hammer b4?
  9. hi all, i know the usual method to attach mushroom frags is to place them in a container with crushed coral substrate for them to attach but some of mine still refuse to attach after many months... i've read some people super glue gel their fraggings onto rocks. just wanna check if anyone has done it before and if there was any casulty? thanks!
  10. nice tank... i had a MI once that feeds greedily on pellets too. i read alot about it before i bought one and WWM suggests to feed them new life spectrum pellets. you can find it easily at most LFS. it also likes nori and sponge... although my MI passed away, my other fishies still enjoy the NFS pellets alot. more than ocean nutrition's formula 1,2. do try it out! as for how my MI died... it was due to my laziness. i added new LS without quarantine and it caught ich, together with a powder brown tang. it was actually doing quite well for a few months b4 it got the ich infection. good luck!
  11. check out this LFS map i've made.. heh http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?f=q&hl=...606308&z=11
  12. looking good! off to a great start. hehe [edit] didn't read the second page... anyway do you have any more spare sump compartment for chaeto? cause they need good water flow through them. dunno how u gonna pipe the water into the separate tank and into your sump, unless the spare tank is already pre-drilled. also for the spare tank, i suggest using it as an auto top up. that way you can use fan power to cool the surface of the tank. T5 warms up the water a little bit too... and electricity bill on the rise.. so you might want to take that alternative over getting a good chiller. that's what i'm currently doing... use fan power, auto top up with kalk reactor to keep up the calcium. so far so good... but every other day have to top up the tank with DI water
  13. yeah, 3ft is 39W. 4ft should be 54W. =) up for your sale!
  14. wow.. that's bad. heh maybe recently less land refilling at that area so not so bad? anyway here are some pics http://scubuddies.com/photos/photos_display.aspx?albumid=197
  15. saw these 3 clams side by side last weekend while diving at Aur... haha so nice... my lousy cam couldn't really capture the coloration but do enjoy the following pics
  16. forgot to add, collection will be at Bukit Timah
  17. hey all, i would like to sell my super sun. too busy to target feed... been target feeding every day or every other day. find that feeding frozen food also increase my nitrate / phosphate substantiall, causing algae growth... would like to sell it at $35 or BEST OFFER. here are the pics
  18. wahhh how come you suddenly decide to sell this tang? i up it to $105. =D btw your radiant is doing great in my tank. eats like a pig. haha and i still can't figure out where it sleeps at night... can't spot it at all at night and in the morning b4 lights comes on....
  19. last week my friend planned a dive trip to Hantu and I tagged along... and I actually quite enjoyed the dive there! as expected, the water vis was at best 5m... due to all the boats and land reclaimation going on, but underwater there are actually lots of coral and marine life. most of the happening stuff is at 5-8m.. for lps, i saw the usual hammers, bubbles and lots of favias sps, there are huge pieces of montis everywhere! all sorts of colors too. purple, brown, orange and some wierd ones that i haven't seen before. not many stags or other branching ones... because i believe they can't get enough lighting. fishes u get the usual damsels, clownfish, file fish, butterfly and singapore angel! the highlights were nudibranchs, which were everywhere and were very unique. There was also the pipe fish and seahorses... and a turtle which surfaced a few times before we started our second dive. all in all, i would say that it was quite enjoyable for all who went on the trip. But it's probably not a good place for training since all the marine life there are quite fragile (being under constant strugle for survival) and the vis might freak out some first time divers.... anyone dived in singapore water before? pls share your experience! =)
  20. mm.. what setup are you using? is it a p&s or a dslr w/ strobe setup?
  21. the only diving day trip in singapore would be p. hantu or bintan area. however the water around this region generally has v bad vis due to land reclaimation and heavy boat traffic. however if you have a sharp eye and have the confidence ot dive in local water, you'll find that we have alot of marine life actually. otherwise, you might want to do a weekend trip up to tioman or aur (malaysia). currently its their peak season again so u'll have to book in advance. tioman is more commercialized and aur is more laid back. both offer good diving in my opinion. you can pm me if you are looking for diving packages. i'm a free lance padi instructor.... cheers
  22. i recently bought a piece of zoo from someone.. got two pieces in fact... went home right after meeting and put the zoas into my main display tank the first frag is doing very well, all polyps open the next day but the second frag which had alot more polyps had almost 1/2 closed. i left it there for awhile hoping it will acclamatize and a few days later it was still like that... so i decided to take the frag out and put it in my frag tank.. and when i took it out, man did that piece of zoa stink. like rotting flesh... and some polyps / flesh actually dropped off.... so i tot i had better give it an iodine bath... mixed some iodine with tank water and dipped for awhile... after putting into the frag tank for awhile, i had second thoughts and decided to frag out some the polyps that were still open fragged it into 4 pieces... placed it at different corners of my frag tank today i checked, 3 of the 4 pieces had no polyps open. i took them out and one of them was totally rotten. threw it away.. the other two, also stink a little but looked like the polyps were still pretty intact. last one frag had a few polyps half open... it also seem like the other zoas in the frag tank that were in close proximity to these 3 frags, were affected by too because some polyps that were usually open big were closed up. so now i've removedd the other two pieces and placed it in another container... question is what do i do with the last frag that have some polyps open and some that looks like its falling off? i haven't taken it out to smell it yet because anymore rotten smell will probably make me puke. should i just throw away the other two pieces that i've separated from the main tank? will my other zoas be affected? how how how??? i have other expensive zoas in the frag tank and i dun want them to be affected... i think my colony of pink paly in my main display tank also took a hit because > 1/2 of the polyps are not open today..... lets see how they do tmr... fingers crossed
