hi, any comments on my refugium / sump now? btw i've removed the waste paper basket and use satay sticks to make the chaeto and ulva stay in place.
-
okie... i've added more lf le. about 3 more kg. i've found out the species of fishes my dad put in 2 x normal clown fish 2 x yellow back damsel (looks like yellow tail, just that the yellow spreads across the back) 2 x bi color angel (dwarf angel) i added a sand dollar and a boxer shrimp ( the more peaceful kind according to Henry) my dad added another boxer shrimp ( the big and cheap kind) and a pink color cauliflower lookalike soft coral the coral seem to be like shrinking... haha help helpppp i've removed the overhead filter and placed the phosguard media in the glass jar at the skimmer output.
-
closeup of basket with chaeto and ulva thinking of getting grapes too to reduce the phosphate lvl ulva seems to be taken over by red algae growing on top of it... chaeto not really growing since cycling of tank
-
sump tank / refugium about 2 inches of sand, not partitioned overflow pipe flows into sump macro skimmer with a glass bottle filled with filter media at the exit portion to trap air bubbles basket with chaeto and dying ulva inside PL light cheapo atman return pump

the overhead filter box. i have a bag of charcoal, a bag of Sea Chem phosguard and some zealite(?) stony thingy thats suppose to work like charcoal? i'm thinking of removing the whole thing, just leave the cheapo powerhead in the main tank for circulation and then move the phosguard into the glass bottle( can be seen in later pics) at the output of my skimmer am using T5 HO lights, bought from a fellow reefer. using 1 white and 1 blue light. have arctic or is it artinic tube too but not using. dunno whats the diff, but prefer to have more white light

Hi all, was intending to let my tank cycle for another week before adding LS but who knows today when i came back home, got 6 fishes in my tank le... daddy went farm mart and bough 6 damsel type of fish. haha but anyway i'm intending to keep some beginer coral, so pls help me improve my tank and guide me along. I've invested quite abit in this new setup and after it crashed the other time due to my stupidity, i think i need to be more active in the forum asking questions instead of reading other pple's tread. for starters, i'll post some pics of my current setup and u pple can comment on it. =)

what is a good sand shifter to keep to prevent my algae from growing on the sand substrate? my sand is a mixture of grand 1 and 3 i think. just a small layer over the base of the tank. < 1 inch
-
btw i'm using 2x HO T5 for lightings and i have a 2 ft sump with dsb, skimmer and chaeto + ulva running. =)
-
side track abit. i'm planning to keep 2-3 percs in my 2ft X 1.5 x 1.5 too... am wondering what will act as a good subsitute host for them (don't wanna keep anemone). previously I had a nice jewel which they like to play in but the jewel died after my tank crashed..

damn sian after reading all your replies. i shouldn't have itchy hang go put the medication la... think i'll change the whole tank of water. and add lots of activated carbon and cross my fingers...
-
oh shit.... the medication doesn't says if it contains copper not. it says 'Super Copper Safe' for fresh and salt water tank the precautions reads: it is advisable to seperate invertebrates/species without skeleton from the marine tank while using "Super Copper Safe" hope it doesn't contain copper.... :S

Just got back from overseas... tank crashed. according to my mother, the BT and sailfin tangs started having white patches on them (ich i suppose) and it killed both of them. my clownfishes also had white film of stuff on them when they died too. i've removed all dead LS. my crab and prawn are still alive.. placed them in sump. placed my LPS in sump tank too. pls advise me what to do next. quite lost now... first time tank crash now main tank only have some LR and alot of white pods thingy on the tank glass. i've added some super cooper medication thingy that my sis bought. sump and main tank are not linked yet. help...

urrggg this is frustrating. keep tasting salt water and not seeing it work sucks. i've cut the external pipe with the cap shorter. still not working...
-
oh i noticed the external pipe with the cap is much longer/higher than the pipe in the overflow partition and the pipe just outside the tank. will this cause a problem? should i shorten it?
-
mm.. what will happen if the pipe inside the overflow compartment is longer than the 'U' joint just outside the tank? and i'm thinking it maybe because my overflow compartment takes in water too slowly. what if i dun use an overflow pipe? lastly, the T joint in my sump tank (pic 2) shouldn't affect the siphon right? i ran out of 'r' joints so i thought i'll use a T joint as a substitute first.
-
yup thats what i did. i sucked the external pipe till i tasted salt water when the valve was closed. then i replaced the cap and place my finger across the hole. the water level is about 2 cm above the overflow. then opened the valve, only water inside the pipe flowed out. after that it stopped....
-
the length of the pipe going into the overflow is the same length as the pipe beside it (i.e. the pipe outside the tank) yup yup i did open the valve
