  4. Hey all, just wanna share my 3ft tank with you all... would appreciate it if you can leave some feedback / comments after viewing. thanks! but before that here are some photos my decommed tank.. it was converted from freshwater and didn't have a proper overflow system. hooked up something on my own, which often caused flooding. quite headache...
  5. really? bro dun mind can pm me where? btw this light set quite solid la. but the T5 version does not have fan, so it gets abit hot.
  6. yup.. i'm selling. but it is 4ft. i'm using it for 2ft tank now... let me know if u're interested and if the price is right for you.
  7. mm.. i also dun think its wise to start/stop skimmer. after all even the best skimmer will take sometime to run in. its just how a skimmer works by bubbling the organics and protein up... i too have been looking into ways of reducing electricity usage... have since stripped off my chiller and using fan (evaporative cooling) and ATO. when ATO kicks in, it pumps in kalk water (kalk reactor) which helps keep my calcium level... so striping the need for CR and pH controller... although once in awhile the ph does go abit high (on a hot day), but generally my LS and corals are very happy. the fan helps keep the t5 fixture cool too, which increases the lifespan of the tubes. t5 tubes have mecury in it and is not as environmentally friendly as LED, but LED is still costly and not as good (imo) yet. would also like to try out the scrubber but am kindof lazy to diy it... currently i think my refugium is quite good already
  8. 2ft Solite and 3ft Aqualight sold to nice bro left Oceanus LED and 3ft ATI retrofit
  9. it grabs it when it is dropping down the tank... same as my clowns, royal gamma and some wrasse. so when i feed i usually switch off the return... and since mine is a barebottom, when it drops down the cleaner shrimps take care of it. yeah.. they eat the pellets too... its that good. hahahaa
  10. ever got a specimen from Jrh marine stall before. fed it and made sure it was eating the pellet before i bought it. still remember it was only $12 come home kena wack big time by my yellow tang which is about same size, but after a few days they stop fighting and were friendly to each other. however you can see that its filament like dorsal fin was gone... on one of the more famous online site, people suggested feeding it new life spectrum pellets. i did that and in no time the MI springed back to good health. the filament grew back to about 6 to 7 inches long... real beauty then i got a power brown from another reefer, thinking it was already quarantined and dumped it into the FOWLR system. in no time the MI (and the powder brown) caught ich and died. I managed to keep it healthy for about 2 months... if it hadn't gotten ich, i was quite sure it would have lasted longer. MI are really pretty... but i think its probably best if we left them in the wild. been diving around the region quite abit and the MI i see are always big and fat and loving. don't think they are in danger of going extinct yet but still... heh good luck!
  11. my lawnmower blenny is also v hardworking but recently it has learnt to eat pellets too. i feed a mixture of new life spectrum and formula 2. it ignores the nori and mysis that i feed the other fishes though.
  12. anyone know where i can find a blotched anthias? i think these guys are really cute and would like to add them to my reef tank. also let me know what's the price range too... thanks!
  13. the room is my study room and it is very quiet at night.. so i'm sure the red firedart goby jumped out because it was terrorized by the dominant purple one and not by noise or sudden movement anyway the top is also 1/2 covered by the lighting fixture... am planning to upgrade to a bigger fixture next week or so.
  14. no prob! maybe i'll stock up on shrimps instead. shrimp last count was at 3 only... i also had 8 previously but i think iodine overdose alot mati. time to visit CF.. haha

  17. oohhh i meant peel when they are already steamed.. but yeah.. they weren't kept in bottles unlike the ones i saw in Tawau.. so thats why i conclude pissing shrimps are not mantis. hehe
  18. hi all, i used to have 3 fire dart gobies, 1 red 2 purple. they were living happily together in my 2 ft nano tank w/o hood for almost 2 months. 3 days ago, i found my red fire goby dried up on my table.. apparently it jumped out at night... now one of my purple one keeps hiding. i think they were initially shy but now the dominant purple is starting to show its true color... and terrorizing the other one. i'm thinking of removing the dominant one to put in my bigger 3ft tank.. and hopefully the other purple one will come out and feed. it hasn't eaten for 2 days already... what do you think i should do?
  19. bro can i reserve the purple tang? always wanted one... heheee but that would mean my fish count is 9.. not 8. what's the next lucky number after 8? hahaa
  20. mm... when i went hong kong, they had these pissing shrimps at all their restaurants. but it looks different from a mantis lay... also the mantis they had at the restaurant were all kept in plastic coke bottles, coz i think they have a powerful punch. but those at hong kong, the pissing shrimps were all just swimming around in a group. so i think it might be different from pissing shrimps also according to my hong kong friend, they are called pissing shrimps because when you peel them open, they piss. haha thats why they are called pissing shrimps. dunno if its true anot as i didn't try the pissing shrimp when i was in hong kong. according to the seafood stall owner, they are imported from Malaysia!
  21. dunno... dun think so. i think they quite shy actually.. but i nv try to go too close anyway. heard they punch really hard and will break the camera housing. dun wanna try.. haha there are alot of nice mantis shrimps there... they even had it at the seafood restaurant. taste pretty good actually...
