haha sorry i should have been more clear. u know those hikari frozen mysis we get in slabs? they ship it in styrofoam boxes, like 20 in 1 box or something.. the box keeps the mysis from melting during shipment i think. and the tape is to seal the styrofoam box... the plastic bags they will use rubber band. as the cargo area in the plane is often not pressurized, the air inside expands as we ascend into cruising altitude. if the air is too much, some of it might escape if it's just rubber band... worse case scenario the bag burst and water will fill the box, so thats why you need to seal it well to make sure no leak in case the bag burst?

anyone has one to let go please let me know. thanks!

i ever played with plankton (or maybe pods) that glow in the dark before while night diving. its not that uncommon... just switch off the torch and let your eyes adjust.. look hard and you should see them. but that's in the wild... not sure if they exist in our controlled reef environment.

does anyone know how many derasa clams left at LCK? i wanna get a few but only free this sunday.... -
yes all fake one. i don't remember seeing any reef tanks there... haha and it was v crowded too.

nice MI. feed it well and u'll see the dorsal fin grow an extended thread like thingy... very nice to look at when its swimming around. last time i also bought my MI from jr. nice healthy eating specimen.. abit cheaper that time.. read from wetwebmedia that feeding new life spectrum pellets can extend their life in captivity, although still a rather short one. mine died quickily after ich infection from a powder brown... so u had better start enriching the mysis with garlic and watch what u put into the tank...

thansk bro for the comments. definitely up for exchange, just pm me and let me know which ones u are interested in and i'll frag that for you when the colony is ready. zoa mountain will be nice... but it'll definitely take some time.
-
thanks bro. cannot fight with your rics and prata garden la.. haha i have a rock of rics too but sad to say they are not doing as well as the zoas.
-
hey thanks! didn't manage to go diving coz i went with my family ar... my mum will nag nag nag if i had went. haha i heard the diving area is mainly at tsai kung? anyway my friend who went diving said there's not much to see and the water is quite cold. the price is about the same as going hantu to dive, so relatively affordable. i also thinking of stacking more rocks to make the structure higher but very scared it might topple.. if it drops to the 'ground' then it might crack the glass and i'll be in for a good time.
-
cannot hand carry coz got got to pack with water ar. it was in my check-in luggage. heng no leak... haha packed 3 packets inside 1 hikari box, they hold it quite nicely. bring some extra tape along to pack yourself coz they quite stingy with the tape.. i think they didn't think i was gonna fly that back to singapore thats why...

actually there's this guy on reefcentral with just that. haha super nicee... and very natural too. if anyone here dove at redang kalong before, u see the house reef area... whole patch of zoas. hahaa of course the zoas there are not as colorful. but still v nice! sometimes when i'm diving and i realize the zoa still look quite red even though i'm quite deep, very tempted to want to bring it up to see if the zoa is some super red specimen anot.

ever wonder how much you spend on utilities every month?
markietan replied to markietan's topic in General Reefkeeping_
yeah.. about 5l a day, top up with kalk water using ATO. i'm running a 40W fan... maybe i should put that fan on a external temp controller or something... but so far i think the tank is enjoying the calcium topup daily -
here are some photos from Hong Kong's Ocean Park (Dec 08) their FOWLR Dolphins and of course the Panda!
-
mm.. yeah i didn't want the dolphin lagoon ticket one but they are combined so just go lor. UOB card member got discount, still affordable la i think. the reef tank pic is cloudy because there was a diver inside cleaning the tank. haha look carefully on the right side, u'll see part of his equipment.
-
bro do u have a pic? i'm interested.
-
yup thats the place. i went last dec, alot of marine stalls wor.. about 10-15 or so... and yes many fresh water / pet stalls too. there's a dive shop there too... the hostel is stayed at was really close to that place so i went there alot. haha
-
actually the hk zoas are quite cheap. for the quality and quantity... haha u'll be surprised. found it at one of the shops at mong kok area.. however only managed to find 3 pieces and i bought all 3 (shared with a friend). they are more into fishes rather than corals. the fishes there also dirt cheap ar.. esp the angels equipment, additives, etc also cheap there la. i think the competition there quite steep, because all located on one street.

not ready for fragging yet coz thats the only small colony i have now. once its ready i'll let u know! =)
-
my plan is for them to spread on the barebottom... haha actually one of the radioactive green zoa has already attached itself to the glass bottom. lets see if it grows... hehe
-
thanks! but i no fight with old birds la.. still have alot to learn (and frag xchange) with them. actually i agree that there is not much of a aquascape too. as its barebottom, i wanted to make sure the structure is stable and none of the rocks will topple casuing a crack on the tank... but anyway despite how it looks like, there are actually alot of cave and crevices in the middle and the back of the rockscape, so water can still move around / inside the rock. i'm considering pointing the seio downwards into the holes actually to blow the detritus out yeah the black spots were caused by the zoa i think. they didn't have them initially... oh well... who ask them go and host on the zoa. suprisingly it makes the zoa damn hardly and reproductive... seldom close up even though the clowns keeps disturbing..
-
mushrooms didn't really propagate.. in fact i think i have lesser and lesser mushrooms... kindof gave up on them. temp of the tank is about 28-29. the lights only come on late afternoon till late night.. as the tank is located in a room in the basement, the room is quite cool in the day and at night. so far no signs of stress from the corals yet

hey all, in the spirit of sharing, here's the spreadsheet you can use to help you calculate... i left the spreadsheet partially filled up as an example of how you should fill it up. the electircal tariff is correct as of today (11 Feb). http://www.spservices.com.sg The water tariff is just an approximate... http://www.pub.gov.sg/mpublications/Factsa...aterTariff.aspx let me know if you have any questions on how to use this.... let's try and reduce our carbon footprint (and have some spare cash in our pocket) while maintaining this wonderful hobby! some pics from underwater world taken oct last year turtles outside reef tank baby shark moray sea dragon? feeding time oh.. and now dolphin lagoon and underwater world tickets are combined...

mm.. the clowns are not that small. normal sized.. maybe its because the colony of blackface zoas is quite big? the small ones are the ones in my nano tank.. check it out. really baby and super cute. love them!! (thanks to tansk who passed them to me) i had a chiller for my previous tank (see first pic, the black box on the right). it's good but its an eye sore and uses alot of electricity. I added a fan later and found out that the chiller seldom kick in after that. At that time, the temp controller was set at 28... so then i removed the chiller from the system and found out that the corals were still doing very well of course fan = more evaporation so i added a ATO to the setup. And being the rather lazy reefer, i got the kalk reactor so that I can accomplish 2 things at one time, top up (maintain salinity) with kalk water (replaces calcium).. I top up about 5 liters of DI water a day my tank is running at around 27-29 now.. besides the humming noise, when using fan the temperature swing is much higher.. but the corals and fishes are fine with that. In the wild, the temperature and salinity does swings quite abit too (think cloudy vs sunny vs stormy days).

time for some quick update! my mushrooms keep dropping after i attach then and after awhile i got tired of doing that. also travelled quite abit during the dec holidays, so didn't have time to maintain the tank. anyway just did a good cleanup and shifted some corals to my main tank. here's a quick photo update of my nano! firstly, here's a pic of my fire goby that jumped out and died a horrible and maybe slow death... i had 3 fire dart gobies (2 purple, 1 red) living in the nano peacefully for about 6 weeks. One day one purple goby started turning violent and I think that's why the red one jumped. When I found it the next day, it was dried up on my table... The other purple one got terrorized too (torn fins) and I've since shifted it into my main tank. I don't have a hood for the nano but the light set does cover most of the top, as you will see in one of the photos later. full tank shots (pardon the bag of carbon hanging there) as you can see, i've been using it as sort of a frag tank.. here are some frags that are in the tank dragon eye (correct me if i'm wrong), magenta ring, turquoise face sunflower and eagle eye now if you are wondering how my baby nemos are doing, here's a pic of the bigger one. i can't get a good shot of the smaller one, they won't stop moving. you'll see the smaller one if you look closely in the FTS photo (its on the surface)
