a 4" maxima and a 4" crocea. maxima has nice spot pattern, crocea is green viewed from the top and blue viewed from the side. 3 green hairy mushrooms are attached to the same rock and at the side of the rock there are some orange skirted zoos recently i moved the clams to my sump as there wasn't enough space in my main tank. i placed them under a mh w/o acclimatizing them to the stronger light and they got kindof stressed but they have almost fully recovered now.. u can still see the maxima is still not fully extending its mantle at one part but it is definitely recovering well... just wanna be clear and honest about that one of the old photos when clams were in the main tank picture of original hairy mushroom colony pic of original orange skirt zoo colony picture of the piece in the sump tank.. pardon the green tint, my hp doesn't take good pic.

up... last check yesterday many new polyps are growing out on the right side $15

haha surgery already got pple do le. someone in RC stitched up a purple death with a nuclear green paly.. very cool hybrid. someone posted it before on this forum i think.
-
yup.. thats what the forum is about. sharing! good luck in your hunt for o-rings... these things are important.. without them sure leak. =(

saw this on another forum, thought i might share. basically they are injecting diluted iodine right into the zoa polyps with very fine syringes... which i think makes some sense. iodine soak is like applying vicks... when u get a bad flu, sometimes u just have to get an antibiotics injection. i'm gonna try it later on some zoas that have been closed for awhile now... anyway they look like they were gonna melt also. no harm trying http://www.reef2reef.com/forums//showthread.php?t=18295

anyone has one to let go please let me know. thanks!!

try scraping it off with a old / expired credit card? i find that very effective against coraline that has grown on the glass / arcylic tank.

think of it as a fan... w/o a fan, the air in a room will be still. the room will become stuffy and stale air builds up. same thing in the aquarium, still old water = no good for the fish / corals traditional wavemakers just suck water around it and blow it out in a directed motion.. wavebox works a little differently... it takes in water into a box and drain it out quickily, creating a surge. something to do with resonance... search on youtube and you can see waveboxes in action.

hey you can try powquip traders at blk 808 french road, 03-185, kitchener complex. they also sell o-rings exclusively and have all sorts of sizes.. i went there a few days ago after school to get some orings and they recognized that i'm a student and gave me a good price.. 0.60 cents for 2 orings for my KR.. haha also gave me a name card and ask me to help them publicize to my schoolmates. must have thought i'm from engineering or something.. but too bad i'm not studying in that field. =p

i can't agree more with this point... i'm also a poor student and almost all my equipments are 2nd hand / hand me downs and they are all still working great. many times you can even get free stuff on the buy/sell forum... i've personally gotten a tank, aragonite sand and life stock free. i've also given out a tank, chiller, mh fixture too... so 'troll' around more and you should be able to put together a decent setup for the right price. you can ask your friend's if they have anything they wanna let go too... they should have quite a few usable spare equipments in their store room. also its a wise choice to start smaller... the cost associated in equipments and utility bills really scales exponentially with the amount of tank volume. more volume = more pumps/lights/chilling/water change/additives and better equipments. nano reefs is actually pretty cool! i have both a nano and a 3ft display and i personally like my nano better... maybe becase i'm more into small things like zoos and gobies. welcome to the club, good luck in equipment hunting!

can reserve a frag of darth maul for me too if you start fragging that colony please???

it should be very easy to diy.. just follow the images found in the google image search link i believe u don't have to glue any part of the pipes.. just get the same size piping, cut to size and fix it up to the the existing pipe in the overflow box. some white tape might help but without them the durso pipe should still be quite solid also try and make the durso pipe higher up to increase the water level in the overflow box.. the lower the water level in the overflow chamber, the louder the "waterfall" sound. might be because more air space in the box causes more echo when the water pours in? good luck! =)

if the corals all seem to be opening more, i would leave it as it is.... since your tunzes provides quite abit of flow already... save the electricity and just enjoy the corals =) nice tank btw, would love to see more pics. take w/ a proper camera pls!! =)
-
hey saw your overflow box.. doesn't seem like it has a durso so does it make a 'waterfall' noise when the water flows into the box and drains into the sump? if u dunno what a durso is, u can check out this pics http://images.google.com.sg/images?q=durso...l=en&tab=wi

i think u might have entered an additional 5 for the price....?

is most of the algae growing on the mesh or on the glass? looks like it is growing on the glass instead...

how to introduce clam to new lighting setup?
markietan replied to markietan's topic in General Reefkeeping_
thanks for the advice... fortunately these clams have somewhat recovered. the side that is nearer to the mh is still shrivelled but the side that is further away from the mh has fully extended and no signs of bleaching (fingers crossed)... give it a week or so and i'm gonna move the mh over them. currently the mh is shining from an angle at a distance away... as the tank is quite shallow... btw following the light shock, i did not switch on the lights for a day.. then i placed some egg crate over the clams and resumed the mh lighting for 3 hours... then 5 hours... then removed the egg crate. will try and get a picture of them tonight -
no lah... play play only.. after dosing vit c... haha now tank condition not as good le.
-

nope.. i seldom siphon actually... even when i change water bi-weekly, just siphon abit.. i think alot of detritus stuck underneath the rock work... haha. next tank have to put a strong wavemater at the bottom le.
-
u know if C328 sells that? if not does anyone know which lfs carry this medication?
-
mm... now that i look closely at the new colony (grown from the monther colony), there are indeed some white colored ones.. but this new colony is placed much lower in the tank, wonder if that might be the reason in any case, need to make more space... reduce price to $15.
-
wow.. i'm amazed that a submerged screen can also have such great growth... i think i'm gonna stuff some mesh into my overflow box and see what happens... heh
-
yeah i think you are on to something. the tank itself is maintained at a lower pressure, so that the atmospheric pressure exerted at the opening is enough to stop the water from flowing out... think of it as a semi vacuum in the tank... the 'semi vacuum' 'sucks' the water in the tank maintaining it at that level... interesting! and cool picture of the hand in the tank btw.. haha

nice tank and very nice zoo... i just leave my leather alone at a corner in my nano... not running carbon and no problem so far. i do frequent water changes though... since its a small 2ft tank, not a big effort to water change i see u are using 4 tubes of t5, u might want to consider bringing the crocea further up.. they are pretty light demanding if you want their nice coloration to stay. and try and take out the green tube and hydrometer. quite distracting for such a nice tank. my 2 cents =)
