  1. wow! do they still have the stripe when there are at that size? read that they don't usually grow that big when kept in captivity. i saw 2 on my last diving trip to redang, at the kalong house reef. they still had the stripe and were at least 6" long. but only 2... , not 20 or 40 of them. haha btw are they edible / good eating? lelong lelong... open up to trade for zoas or other fish (except damsel) also
  2. thanks.. not sure why they recomend such a big tank, probably for them to have places to hide? in anycase, there's more info on it here http://www.wetwebmedia.com/plotosid.htm highly venemous.. like a lionfish. no joke... =(
  3. tank is full of dino now cause i didn't soak the sand before i poured them into the tank... high on silicate! in anycase here are some zoas i've added
  4. it was a rash decision cause they looked so cute but after researching, found out that they are actually venomous, which is no good for me as i stick my hand into the tank ever so often. gonna have to let them go. they are in their juvenile form and i'll try and post a picture of them later on. very cute coz they are always swimming together here is more information, including the venomous part. http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/Marine-Cat...striped-eel.php said to be not reef safe as they eat inverts but usually won't touch corals i have 9 of them in the trap box now. all to go for $20... collection at bukit timah near beauty world. wanna clear soon
  5. sorry to dig this thread up again but does anyone know where i can get the 1 x 150w 3ft solite fixture? otherwise have to buy illummax already... thanks
  6. bro, can i t-loan? haha or i bring my problematic frags over u ask your YT to help me cleanup?
  7. nope. no space for algae scrubber and i only feed minimally for that tank to the 4 baby clowns in there. feeding spectrum grow pellets i normally remove the whole piece of rock or plug to another container and pluck them all out and scrub it hard before i place them back into the tank and they still grow back somehow. mine also seem to have many 'branches' ?
  8. hi bro, it looks like a fern like hairy algae that grows really fast on sand, rock and even the glass. it grew all over my frag plugs and i have to manually weed them out as they affect the frags growing on the plug. i can't get a good shot but you should be able to get a photo of it easily online. i've tried weeding them, then using tweezers to scrap off any more bits then using a tooth brush to brush the no-polyp region vigorously but it still grew back after awhile. now i'm trying to keep my mg level high and that was suppose to kill them. it did work once and i changed my water and it grew back... now the tank is high in nutrient because i took off the skimmer and i think they are growing really well. especially when there is sand, they grow really fast by spreading through sand. i'm gonna move to another qt tank w/o any sand bed after dipping the frags in fresh water / lugol. then monitor from there... also that 1 time when it worked, i was also dosing vit c at a high dosage and i think it caused a bacteria bloom making the water chalky/cloudy, which is what prompted me to do a huge water change and stop dosing anything for awhile and then those translucent broypsis grew back. these things are wicked... i hope you don't have them in your tank. also i hope u get rid of the nudis too.... i've been staying up late to check on the tank every 15 mins to see if any fat neon nudis come out to feed... so far no more sightings. fingers crossed.... going to do dip and transfer now...
  9. yup.. looks like one of those radioactive green "Dragon eyes". recently alot of these in the market. the vietnam ones are quite cheap. those nicer ones would have the whole face covered with green, which is why some call them "green dragon eyes" as well. give yours sometime and hopefully it colors up and cover the face. seriously i think we shouldn't call them dragon eyes... the red face dragon eyes are so much nicer... those are rare though....
  10. nice zoa. is it purple or blue face w/ red skirt? can't really tell... is this called spiderman?
  11. interesting time this thread came up cause yesterday while checking my frag tank at night after neglecting it for some time, i found nudis crawling round some of my most beloved zoas! those bastards anyway i sucked out a total of 15. each time, i switch off the light, leave it alone for 10 minutes, then on the blue light only. the nudis are really pretty actually, and they look like eagle eye zoa coloration on the back, so they camo quite nicely. siphoned out all that i could spot and repeated that 3 to 4 times. but i'm quite sure there are eggs somewhere so i'm gonna do a fw lugol dip tonight for all frags, transfer to another temp tank which i will setup w/ mature tank water from another tank and maybe get the flatworm exit potion to kill any baby nudis. told my friends to help me buy a yellow wrasse too... just when my broypsis is getting controlled, this has to happen! and i think some zoas were also starting to develop pox. zoa pox dun spread right? mark
  12. would like to get a MCE600. quote me a price if you have one to let go. condition and warranty (if any). thanks!
  13. forgot to mention, collection at bukit timah near beauty world.
  14. zoa rock is bigger than clenched fist size. 2 types of zoas on it, one of them is fire and ice, the other one is red face brown skirt. should be > 200 polyps... asking for $50 royal gamma, bought from fellow reefer at $30, selling at $30. nice healthy and colorful, adult size. selling because it is most likely going to fight with my current one... kept in trap box since i got it. free blue damsel pictures all taken under 2 x ati blue pro
  15. http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0...5012895,00.html strange things do happen in the world...
  16. sorry bro. a little too far for me to deliver. any other bro interested in the damsel?
  17. someone please adopt the poor blue damsel...
  18. yeah.. it does look dangerously high and i think its due to the high flow return pump.. if i change to a lower rate pump it will definitely drop. but i'll monitor and see how... so far so good, no overflow/leak. use until this atman pump spoil first... its running on a impeller w/ a satay stick shaft cause the original shaft dunno go where. haha
  19. mm.. the tinted windows are closed in this photo. no intention to use natural light in the main display. actually at the back of the tank where the refugium is, it gets plenty of light in the day even when the windows are closed. especially in the morning... one of the reasons why i chose to have the sump run along the whole length of the display too instead of having it at one side.
  20. no lah.. gonna decomm the ones in my bedroom.. once i get rid of the bryopsis problem w/ the high mg treatment. then move all over to this one... =)
  21. hey friends, i've started decomming my 2ft as i've gotten my new shallow tank, which is what this thread is about. the original plans can be found at this thread http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=78057 there were minor changes as advised by forum friends and tank maker. tank maker did quite a good job... good communication throughout and gave good advice. Delivered as scheduled too and workmanship is good. tank specs 12mm glass w/ black acrylic backing & black silicon : 5.2ft (l) by 1.25ft (w) by 1.125ft (h) internal sump w/ 4 partitions. 1st one is overflow & wet dry filter, 2nd one is for carbon & media, 3rd one is for refugium and last partition for return pump total volume is 38 gallon (about 140 litres) equipments return pump : 3000l/h atman pump (to be changed to AB2000/i or AB3000 in the future) piped to 2 return holes wavemakers : 2 x koralia 2 skimmer : deltec apf600 w/ atman feeder pump (fed from overflow partition, return to 2nd partition) light : aquamedic 5ft retrofit (ati aquablue special and bluepro) others : tubby ATO w/ kalk reactor here's a FTS w/ sand, dead rocks and bacteria added to kickstart cycling. the original idea was to create a simple tank for culturing fast growing corals like zoas and maybe SPS. however i do forsee myself stocking it with some nice fishes so i might remove some rocks to create more swimming space. comments and feedbacks welcomed!
