how do u keep your sand bed clean?
markietan replied to markietan's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
mm.. all my top up is kalkwater, so dkh is pretty high. once a week i dose purple up too, which according to the instructions, ups the dkh and calcium as well... last weekend also replaced all my rowaphos. this weekend the sand bed is still brownish... at night, the sand seems whiter n they seem to have disappeared but i'm sure they will be back tmr morning. shall throw in a new vial of bioptim n biodigest tmr... -

clam still available. up!

anyone seen this in LFS? read online that it works much better than joe's juice or any other products out there... http://www.redseafish.com/Prod296.asp the kalk water syringe thing doesn't work very well... takes a few try to get rid of the aiptasias in my tank. besides, Aptasia X comes with a cool bent syringe, much easier to reach those buggers that always retract into their hole.

how do u keep your sand bed clean?
markietan replied to markietan's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
mm.. sand dollars dun live long right? am trying not to introduce more LS to solve the problem. currently have 1 blue hermit n abalone in already n its getting crowded. hah yup.. have been dosing biodigest on a regular basis. not helping on keeping the sand clean... -
am using caribsea livesand for my currently setup but every weekend when i go home, the sand bed has a layer of ugly brown algae on it... am quite sure its not daitom as it doesn't like filamentous to me. it looks quite like the brown film type of algae that grows on the tank glass wall... previously was running a BB tank so didn't have this problem... before that was using black sand so didn't really see the 'brown'ing of the sand. currently am just stirring the sand to cover the brown colored sand. is there a better solution to this? equipment wise, am overskimming tank, dosing bacteria n 3kg of biohome plus.. should be sufficient to keep nutrient in control since i dun have many fish as well... am thinking of adding flow but would have to put in a layer of puka over the sand before that as even the weakest tunze will blow the sand uneven due to the short depth of my tank any suggestions appreciated!

mm.. i'm currently running two units side by side. one is a 2nd hand unit and the other one is new from RD. for the old one, i can push the skimmate collection cup all the way down and won't have overflow problem but for the new one, i need to make sure the cup is about 1 finger width away from being pushed all the way down. i'm thinking my older unit's pump is weakening... is this correct? lazy to take out both units and swap pumps to test.... just wanna ask if anyone had the same problem.

thx bro. the master piece was previously from your 3ft tank. heheee see if you can spot it. anyway its time to update your tank thread. i really like your light house deco concept... next tank i'll be sure to incorporate something like yours. but that will have to wait... at least for another year. haha

some pics i took this weekend Partial TS got this healthy purple tang from a friendly bro... but after QT n putting him into the tank, he kept swimming at this corner, where the flow is stronger. occasionally would dart to the other side of the tank and dart back. at least its feeding pallets... new rics (yuma) addition and the old ones still as stunning! some frag trade from last weekend and lastly a nice gift from kylve. thanks bro! very stunning piece
-
bro, nothing compared to your tank la... i'm drooling at your rics too. hahaa

collection this weekend at my place, bukit timah near beauty world. 1. crocea clam - $30. been with me for a long time... about 4-5 inches 2. 'green people eater' - $10 3. 'indo dragon eyes'? n some 'firecracker' zoa (3 polyps?) at the top. - $20 have some other random zoa frags that i'll throw in free. ask those that came over for the past 2 weekends... haha disclaimer : the zoa names are given by me... so dun blame me if u find something on zoaid and the pattern / coloring doesn't match. =p

really nice stuff... seen it in person yesterday.

the prices there are very competitive.. if u have time to spend there, suggest u can go there and look around as there are many dive schools there. choose carefully as some schools might neglect safety or proper education just to save that few $ on operating costs. definitely not worth it to risk your life on that... have a friend who did his instructor rating at mermaid dive center and he has nothing but praises for that sch. u might wanna check it out! =)

mm.. where is pulau salu and do u have to charter your own boat to get there?

action station! this things do spread like wild fire so quickly get some furan and dip it. there are many medications out there w/ furan-something but i think the only one that works is from API n it is in a blue / white box. good luck bro, hope the other zoas ain't affected.
