  1. I"m using not 2 but 4X PL, 2 being actinic, is this enuff?
  2. Me also wondering the same thing as sinner, got relevant qn to this thread, for 3ft tank, is 2X 36W PL actinic and 2X 36W 10K PL enuff to keep anemone? assuming it'll move to the higher levels nearer to the light?
  3. How do you clean the sand of debris and all? those siphons with gravel vacuuming thingies will prob suck in my grade 0 sand too, so is there any other way of doing so?
  4. If both pipes are above the water, ie the outlets are above the water then nevermind what, no back flow of water? but if the outlets are in the water then either drill a tiny hole just below the water surface, so when water backflow till the level drop below the hole, air will enter, BUT since its a tiny hole very little water will go out of the hole when there is no backflow so won't spoil your pipe water current flow. OR alternatively, you can be kiasu and drill the tiny hole above the water level but put some form of barrier loosely over the hole, like tape small piece of plastic bag like a openable flap over it, idea is that when you have power failure, immediately air will enter to break siphon, and when you don't have power failure, some water will escape thru the hole, so the physical barrier is to block the water shooting like fountain and let it dribble back down the pipe into the water. the hole should be as small as possible tho. Just my 2 rupees worth!
  5. aqua reef: care to share your circuit diagram?
  6. went to see today, most of their stock is gone?? but just a few days ago still got lots of fish so how come? cannot be all sold so fast rite? hhmmm mystery... the batfish also gone btw.
  7. I also kena chased by dog while cycling before, also cycle off till the dog stop chasing. I think dogs are territorial so once you cycle out of their perceived territory, they won't chase anymore. also, worse comes to worse you can always hide behind your bike using it as a shield or weapon. but then I really don't see why you want to " stopping down and tame it or cool it down"???? err you think the dog like human can listen to your logic and agree with you its silly of it to chase you esp since there's UN these days to protect your rights, yada yada world peace and all that?? I think the dog one bite will tell you its a bad idea lah....
  8. hi you can try cathay photo at peninsula and ruby also at peninsula but across the road (can't rem which building is which, one is peninsula plaza the other is peninsula shopping centre.) where cathay photo is, there are many other photo shops in the same building, beware of those, tend to chop chop. you can even get film up to ISO 3200!
  9. stitch: you mean the batfish died or you mean its gone from the 6ft tank? cuz it was removed from the 6ft tank a long time ago and placed back into the for sale tanks.
  10. babycat: I admire your save the poor fish spirit, *two thumbs up*!!!
  11. I no digicam lah, want also cannot!!
  12. Day, how much are you selling the lettuce? does it come attached to rock?
  13. I saw the clip with netting selling at LFS at $4-$6.50 and was disgusted by the mark up in price for something that prob was less than 20c to manufacture. Anyhow I DIy-ed a very very simple but just as good feeder to hold nori seaweed, blanched veggies, etc. simply take one of those small black baskets that FW plants come planted in, make sure its a basket with big slots running along its length and not those small holes type. then simply get a sucker and press into one of those slits, voila, you have a seaweed holder! the seaweed can be torn into strips and placed in the basket with one edge sticking out of the slots. but note that unless you DIY a cover for it, you have to stick the basket just under the water line else your seaweed will float out of it.
  14. deepblue: what kind of glue you use? silicon? how long do you let the glue dry before you rinse it and put the rock back into the tank? meanwhile the mushroom can tahan being out of the water?
  15. arrrr hhmmmm what does a bristleworm sting feel like? cuz I think I may have got when handling my LR, a bit like splinter?
  16. Hi, wondering what kind of macroalgae is good for refugium, least likely to turn asexual and all? Can anyone please advise?
  17. Hi, just to share, I made my refugium sump simply by using a 2ft tank(reuse my 2ft after I upgrade to 3ft) and buying glass to silicon in a baffle roughly such that the tank is divided into 0.5ft and 1.5ft. in the 0.5ft section I put my return pump and also my skimmer pump (using weipro which is hung on the outside of tank), the skimmer output goes into the 1.5 ft section which is the refugium. so the idea is water from main tank goes into the 0.5ft section (mechanical filtration occurs in my overflow box which I DIY-ed too), and part of it is immediately returned to the main tank thru return pump, while part of it is skimmed and goes into the refugium which then overflows thru the baffles back into the 0.5 ft section to be pumped back into the main tank or kena sucked back into skimmer. so gd points are that skimmer skims over and over the same water (more effecient) and refugium gets reduced water flow.
  18. I did ACL ligament in vitro growing as my final year project last sem! Can grow many many for you, don't worry!
  19. Well I think its nice they snip off the algae from LR, (tho still got bits left here and there, so still need to DIY), but was hoping more sponges and more worms and the like were left, hmmm wonder what they do with all the live stuff in the rock when they clean it? but thanx for all your replies, will go check out CF!
  20. Hi, read in a mag where this guy was advocating full crew for DSB, with bristleworms, pods, etc etc (can't rem the rest) to burrow in the DSB and improve water circulation. He says he buys starter kits several times a year to maintain a high level of critters. I"m thinking these kits might be great for refugiums? And I bought some LR from SL for the first time, and the aunty said all their LR are "cleaned and brushed, algae removed, etc" by them hence the higher price ($10), but then I bring home and look at my rocks and wonder if they should be so clean? I don't see no worm nor star nor anything much, other than one tiny sponge. So my question is: should the LR be cleaned or as "dirty" as possible. and good idea to get the "starter" kits? If so where to get?
  21. I just saw their tank today, the juv batfish is back in the for sale tank but with tattered fins!
  22. woah, nice reflector you have there!! Any reason why you chose SS instead of aluminium? And how did you bend the steel?
