  4. Hi bro, haven't met u for a long time. Sorb 4 rated its content by weight. Rowaphos rated its content by volume. In terms of amt of material availabe, both bottle contains the same amt of media. That's why i consider sorb 4 cheaper, as the amt of media used per time is the same for me. Of course, there're some that always insist rowaphos is "better". I've used rowaphos for a long time, but switched to sorb4 oredi. I change my media frequently, once every mth. So Sorb4 is more economical to me. Just my opinion here. I'm not starting a thread on which brand is "better". It's personal preference. Cheers!
  5. Cheap and effective PO4 remover i'm using is Sorb4. The 2 popular brands used here are Sorb4 and Rowaphos. Rowaphos is much higher in price, but is effective as well. Hope this helps
  6. Was your tank cycled? When u introduce new LR from LFS into the tank, they're not fully cured, meaning there're still some organism on the LR dying off. U have to let the LR cure.... letting your system run for 1mth or so, let the water clear up, no foul smell. Only then can u safely add in fishes. I do not know the condition of your tank now, but i guess the fishes died due to ammonia spike after introducing the LR. Are you running any filtration for your tank? It's necessary so that dead stuff, dirt are filtrated from the water during this cycling phase. Don't add anymore fishes for the next 2-3 wks. Change 50% of the water, and let the system cycle first. Hope this helps
  7. U need to let your system stabilise/ mature. Reduce your feeding, feed lesser amt so no food will be stuck in the LR. Get some cleaning crew to help get rid of the algae initially. Run PO4 remover such as Sorb4 to absorb PO4 , and run carbon to "clean" the water. Since u have no corals, reduce your lighting period to slow down the growth of existing algae. Suggested cleaning crew: Seahare, sea urchins (good at scraping off stubborn algae on ur LR), astrea snails. Remember that the cleaning crew only helps to clear off the algae, you need to get to the root of this algae bloom. Improve your water quality.
  8. Yup, despite using CR, dosing ABC is still necessary as I've mentioned, CR only maintains KH and Ca. CR media does not release all essential elements required by our corals. ABC provides all these essential major n minor trace elements. I started off following the dosage. Had been advise by John to adjust according to tank requirement. As a "rough gauge", the diff colours of the 3 bottles symbolises the improvement to corresponding colouration of the sps (u can counter check this by looking at the elements provided by each bottle, do a search online and it does shows that it'll improve the corresponding colours of the bottle). I've since adjusted to dose more A and C, leaving B following the dosage. Been getting good colouration on my sps so far. Cheers!
  9. I tink the M he's referring to is Grotech VitM (Vit plus amino acids). You're right, Grotech A already contains Mg, so dun need to add additional Mg.
  10. I'm using ABC plus CR. ABC provides all the nec major and trace elements. CR maintains the KH and Ca level of my sps tank. For M, I guess u're refering to VitM? For VitM, I dose manually. ABC are dosed via dosing pumps.
  11. Hi bro, I'm using CR, and dosing Grotech ABC. CR only supply carbonate hardness and Ca. Does not supply all the trace elements provided by ABC. I'm getting gd results using just ABC and CR. Hope this helps. Cheers!

  20. Hi SantaMonica, The algae turf John builds looks like water is just running down the screen at certain parts. (pipe with holes rather than water flowing over the full screen). My question is, how do u slot in the screen into the pipe (with a slit cut on the pipe), yet ensure water is able to flow thru both sides of the screen smoothly? I guess this means that the slot cut on the pipe where the screen fits in must be bigger than the thickness of the screen. But roughly how much more should we cut to "even" out the water flowing down the screen? Thanks for this great thread, u've been most helpful.
