Yes you need an overflow is you want a sump - need a sump 1st. Then get the overflow - overflow can buy from Aqua***in or DIY yourself. Some reefers will do for you. Cansister is insufficient for a 4ft unless it is a FOWLR. Sand get grade 3 then 1 and then 0 at the top, a sandbed thickness of about 2-3" is okay. chiller is needed for hard corals, but not necessary for soft corals provided you do not go over the safe zone (30 degrees). If FOWLR chiller not necessary, again not going over the safe zone. just mine 2 cents worth.

i read somewhere that market lettuce can be used to feed tangs. Boil some water in a pot, after boiling, turn off the heat, throw a few leaves in to the hot water and soak for 2-3 minutes (purpose is to soften NOT boil the leaves). then cool and then put into tank for feeding. Should be fine. Supplement with other foods as well.

Just an idea... if you are a dog, where will you go in that area - Seletar camp??? inside is big with many old houses and big fields, go there and have a look, or else inside the Farmways drive along the road and try calling the dog's name. Wish you LUCK in locating your dog.

I hope that this helps, this is confirmed after some discussion with a vendor at the electronics shop at Sim Lim Tower. The price of the LEDs will drop when you purchase in bulk (30-100pcs for example) but for most of us, 10 LEDs is already a lot (nano or pico tank). Happy DIYing. LED_connection.doc

A interesing fact to note - by looking at the date posting - you started the tank on 26 Oct 2005 and ended on 22 Mar 06, a total of 5 months. Anyone has got a pico tank (1ft tank or around that size) and what is the maxmium length of time before it crashes???
-
I have this "Cheato" - some sort of seaweed found on Changi beach?? I have been putting this in my office pico and look at the growth. At home, my 2ft tank with sump, has half a sump full of these, I feed these "cheato" to my blue tang and foxface and they enjoy these healthy greens. Looks like for my pico tank, I will have to harvest soon as these grows fast - although I like the greenery (like a freshwater Planted tank ). These can be found on Changi beach - look for it.

New postings, the tank is more or less stable, now enjoying the steady state of reefkeeping with the daily maintenance of topping of distilled water from school science lab, feeding fishes especially over the weekend (no one in school), the daily operation of lighting (by timer) the removal of the excess "cheato", adding of additives, reef food etc.
-
just my 2 cents worth, if memory serves me correct, I saw a reefer put the chaeto in one of the compartment in their external cansister filter (of course they will have a light shining at the cansister filter) to light up the cheato. This case there is good flow and light (24/7).

I think those little things are baby featherduster. Because when you touch them, they retract, then after a while, they will open up again.

PM you already.

Well, with a big budget, a big tank, it will be inspiring to see the development of your tank. Keep posting the pictures. BTW 6ft is no allowed in a HDB flat???

I think this type of tank is ok except that you would have to make the modifications - adding the teeths for the overflow, the hole for the water to be pumped back. In theory any tank can be used if you are going to do a little modifications. As a ex-product designer now school teacher I used to use AutoCAD now using SolidEdge and ProDesktop for CAD drawing although very little drawing nowsadys mostly draw by hand sketches to communicate with students.

2ft tank still available??? I gotta friend who wants one. Got stand or not?

Deep-loma, nowadays cannot get very far - you need a degree. By the way, it is good once a while to have a good clean laugh and some proper laughs that you can share with your colleagues.

The weipro 2014 is used for my home 2ft tank. I have a weipro 2011 but no space to put that in my office. I may want to invest in a canister later on to have better filtration. No need for skimmer I think as the bioload is reasonably low. only 2 clownfish, 1 bicolor dottyback, 1 turbo snail, 2 featherduster, and soft corals. will upgrade skimmer later, may just put the air-stone drivren skimmer but really no space in this small tank.

I feel personally so myself, as I occasionally have to be in the sun the whole day (outdoor adventure camp) the glasses is alright, it does gets dark and after a while, you don't notice the darkness until you have to go indoors (aircon) then the glasses will change lighter. I feel that the darkness cannot compare to sunglasses. But since I have to have spectacles and I don't want a pair of sunglasses with power so this is the best solution for me. I don't have to have a second pair of spectacles. The lens is made of very high quality plastic lens so that I have not got a scratch on the lens yet. Thus the spectacles is rather light. IMO, yes if you can afford it, it is alright. Yes in Singapore the cost is rather high - the lens is about $220 and the frame another $100 so total about $300. A high investment. When I did mine, I have a $100 dollar discount vouncher of $100 so the cost was rather low.

i am wearing it. Yes it does work as advertised. the only problem, it does not get very very dark like a normal sungalsses but good for walking around.
-
IMO, It should be Anemones as they have a second layer of tentacles, zoos normally only have a single layer of tentacles. You can try to target feed with food, see if its tentacles wrap around food and then it digest the food. Zoos I think do not do that.

dear fellow reefers in Sengkang/Hougang/Punggol, I am a school teacher and for a project will be teaching my students to start a tank then to frag softies (yumas, mushrooms etc) so if you have any small frag yourself (mushrooms or yumas floating around - either detach from rock) can you give me please. We intend to from one to do a cut to then become 4, so that then we can take care of them so that they can grow back. I have personally done it on twice (once on a yuma and another on a mushroom) result is good and they are now growing back, attach themselves on coral chips and I am going to do moe now in the March school holidays. The students (2 groups) have started their 2 2ft tanks, one of which is already stocked with softies and 2 clowns/3 damsels ($25) brought from Seletar Farmway the uncle in T95. The second tank is completed cycling and should be buying their livestock this week. At the moment only all the common stuff (brown or red mushrooms) interested in anyone who can sponsor some blue/hairy/or colored mushrooms/yumas. All donations will be credited to you. Thanks so much.
