Definitely NOT hard corals, soft corals like mushrooms/zoos are alright with your 2ft T5 and colling fan. Overhead filter may just about make it for the time being, you will deinfitely want to upgrade to better equipment as you proceed along with your hobby. Good Luck!

the temperature is about 27-28 degrees. The actual student recreatioanl area is air-con when in operation during the afternoon, when in the morning the temperature should be up a little. As the tank is a FOWLR, temperature is not really a BIG concern on my part. Will PM you my school address. Thanks.

Just SMS you. Cdckjn.

IF you REALLY only want a pair of seahorses, a 1.5ft tank with tonga branches and some red bamboo, hang on filter, regular water changes - because of their feeding habits - will foul the water so quickly - then 1.5ft is okay. I have 6 in a 1.5ft setup - similar. height of 1.5ft is about 12 inches.

T95 is off Jalan Kayu. do a search and you will find the location, else get someone to show you where it is. Yes the trolley is a OHP trolley but I chose the all plastic ones so will not rust. Yes it is reasonable "low cost" so as to prove that cheap does not mean impossible. But the way, the tank is still running. and instead of the 2 clownfishes and damsel, I gotten a foxface and a yellow damsel. Also caught some crabs (flower-crab and rock-crabs) form the beach and a pistol shrimp, 1 brown goby also inside. The mushrooms from T95 don't look too good now, they are shrinking. But bonus is that in one of the rock came a free feather-duster. Will post a Full-Tank-Shot later on monday.

Is fire-fish a over paranoid fish?
cdckjn replied to tiffanydunk's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
The fire fish is like that - very nervous - finds security in caves/holes in your liverock. You better cover your tank as firefish are known to be excellent jumpers! they will commit sucide by jumping out of the tank. -
actually I think you can! I have seen sidecar used to carry wife and kid. Why I want sidecar is to carry livestock/natural seawater from beach. also can go fishing - the sidecar will come in useful.

I work very near my house. I normally take a bus (20min) to work. So this form of transport is from the weekend - running around to the shops. I am married, 3 kids, (P5, P4 and 3 years old), my age is 40s (so it is OK to be uncle-uncle, lah). I know that this motorbike will not be able to go expressway but I think for general running around, this will be sufficient for me. What's your opinion? http://www.adpost.com/sg/vehicles/12260/ I need an honest opinion? Thanks so much.

Can mushroom & anemone take temp of 31degrees?
cdckjn replied to Reefzzz's topic in Soft Coral Forum
anemone confirm cannot! -
So far so good for me, it is a constant battle to fight not too spent too much time, money on this hobby AND at the same time balance with family/wife/kids. So far I feel that my joy from this hobby is so far been worth the effort and time put in. Just don't be too ambitious and stick with low-cost techqniues and equipment and keep a simple FOWLR tank (2ft).

if you have bought some zoos recently, then I think it is a nudibranch. If can better take it out, to be safe.

if you have space for a deep tank, and worried about the noise/heat/ etc etc, why not just go for a seahorse tank - they actually benefit more from a deep tank as seahorses like to swim up and down, and if with a properly established tank, quite easy to manage.

I agree that cable tie is best as the material used is nylon. Nylon is more inert - less reactive to seawater compared to rubber band. The rubber elastic will degraded over time and will not provided the necessary tightening force.

I am sure this is another low-cost effective way of cooling water as for the last 30 over years the nuclear plants have been using this method - evaporative cooling. + points - low cost, very simple, very low energy costings, from Internet checking - seems to be rather effective, but in Singapore humidity - question mark? but I still believe the figures that the Internet sources are saying - seems rather convincing - points - noise (like waterfall), raises the overall humidity in the room (evaporative), smell (imagine you at the seaside - saltwater evaporation), salt creeping all over the house, piping of the setup (similar to any chiller/cooler), no way to control the temperature, even if you can, the swing from one extrem to the next will be very high, need to monitor the water top-up (so the urgency of have a reliabel water top-up method else the salinity of the tank will be affected rather quickly. Overall - I am concern with the smell and salt evaporation, if not I believe this is a very low cost solution - ideal if your tank is next to a window (the outside air can be ducted to this unit so that the "salt" goes outside the house - neighbours complain of salt and smell? - but woth a try. Might want to try to DIY one to try.

What kind of skimmer is that showing in the 1st picture? Thanks.

I think most shops at the Basement of Sim Lim Tower will carry stock of this. You will need to walk around and ask a bit first. Good luck, and if you post the address and contact of the shop so that in future anyone else can go there to buy.
